i know this is a libertines interview but hearing "the modern age" for the first time was really fucking special. Its one of those songs you'll forever wish to hear for the first time again.
Wish these two could get back to this trust and friendship with eachother. One starts a sentence, the other finishes it. If they only knew the course that friendship would take. But it has kept them tied together even thru the years apart. Both great musicians on their own... but just like they said here - TOGETHER they are a force to be dealt with!
i love carl in this so much.. "when i'm stealing from you..." "how did this happen?" "well, pete makes something up, and then he says it to an interviewer, it's that easy hah" "hahha.. buffalo"
Two GRADE A+ front men in the same band. Both totally different sound, but put together equal something above and beyond either of them alone. I suppose since the split, they both feel they live in the shadow of eachother/The Libertines, but really - it was THEIR shadow that the two of them cast TOGETHER that they can't duplicate alone. Hard to explain...
really need to spend some time in the UK, I can hardly understand their accent, and I've almost finished my first year in translation studies, I feel pathetic xDDD I understood this half from listening to them, half from reading the subtitles, which are in some Germanic language (is it Norwegian?), since I speak some German. Anyway, they're so lovely and talented and I'm so happy they're back together.
Hello I'm from Germany and can't understand what Pete said at 5:45 up to ~6:00 Could anyone write down what Pete and Carl are Saying? Help me Please! :) Thanks
Carl: Pete makes something up and then he says .... (the dutch translation says ...that it is from them (the coral)) Pete:Sometimes you hear a song and you think shit...You recognize the melody. Grüße aus Österreich
To GREAT Boys in a Band!! I love them so much and think that they're made for each other. But unfortunately their relationship seems to be something between hell and heaven. Weird. Sad. I don't want the Reunion. Just between Carl and Peter, but I think that their music wont be as 'free' as before. I don't know how to say it. But I hope you understand me! Lets just hope that some day Peter&Carl will be together again!!
Watching this interview made me realise that Carl Barat very probably has ADD. I could be wrong, but it seems that his mind is somewhere else during most of the interview. The funniest part is when Pete says comparing the the Libs with the Coral or the White Stripes is like comparing an Oak tree to a buffalo, and then Pete moves on with the conversation saying something else, while Carl is still laughing at the buffalo comment.
The Clash were always badly recorded though..Mick Jones produced the Libs too. I know you're tryina shit on the Libs but they're both chaotic and great imo.
@skint0n0minted maybe there music is easy to play, but they have great lyrics. anybody can learn how to play guitar but not everyone can be a good songwriter. and how does pete glorifys drug addiction? do you think he asked to be in the paper's?
not to rub it in, but that really is a shame! there was nothing more exciting in music at the time, it even transcended music- it felt like beatlemania but not in a superficial way; all about the heart. plus, the sessions &laptop recording popping up sporadically! NME still on thin newspaper, &they covered their every move. it felt like everyone was a part of one big family, through the love of great music! I'm only 21 I guess those few years make a difference... but albion will live on forever!
@skint0n0minted he hardly ever even talks about drugs in interviews, "he'll be dead soon" how long have people been saying that for? i don't think he does drugs anymore.
April 23, 2006 upload date. In addition to a great interview this is one of the very first RUclips videos
youtube was already one year old tho
Shane Arnold youtube began in 2005
I was watching At the Drive-In videos on youtube in '05 😂

@Astro Jenkins need full story
Why does that song make me feel so sad? There’s some kind of sweet nostalgic reminiscence hidden in the mix. I can’t place it, I can’t explain it.
@@SleepBeforeYouThinkthis little story a long time ago
Finally found an interview about Pete and Carl talking about The Strokes ...awesome
love both bands along with fugazi and atdi
Awesome interview! Those two are incredible!
I’m way late on this but Carl taking like 5 minutes to find something funny is beyond cute!!! And makes me laugh cos I’m the same
life changing band
I remember downloading this interview from Kazaa or something in like 2004. The good ol' days of downloading music, videos, interviews etc.!
I love the pause before Carl's wee giggle and then
"What?
"Buffalo."
:)

no matter how many times i see this i still burst out laughing at Carl when he says "buffalo"
Ladies and gentlemen, one more time:
Buffalo
"hhahah"
"what?"
"buffalo"
Pete has such a beautiful personality. love him so much.
Are you still alive?
Carl's laugh is the sweetest thing ever.
so good to see Peter all well..
miss those two together (L)
up the libs
pete: "just stick togeter and keep going"
the irony.
haha, it takes Carl more than 10 seconds to get the buffalo joke! brilliant! :D
i love carl in this so much..
"when i'm stealing from you..."
"how did this happen?"
"well, pete makes something up, and then he says it to an interviewer, it's that easy hah"

Pete is an innocent child.

At 2:23 Carl sounds just like Super Hans!
I like that song ha ha wall, so fucking good.
5:48 "well Pete makes something up and says it to an interview" hahaha

LIBERTINES REUNION 2011 ♥♥♥
im so effing glad that theyre reunited! they will start touring again!! fukk im so happy i cant content myself!!
Jesus Christ, I'm only 20 and you just made me feel old. The Libertines were my favourite band in sixth form.
10 years later and they’ve just announced a tour!
How old are you now? Or has the Heroin taking you!?
pete's face is priceless when carl says buffalo.
i love these guys
hehe carls little laugh..an pete was like whatt??? lol!! blessssss
what is he saying at 02:10 ? Songs did that. "i always lived inside songs" ?
probly the most important british band in the last decade
yup add me to the boat. look at the bright side, pete doherty solo album is on its way ennit?
yeah i met Pete last week at the Hultsfred festival in sweden and he was pretty sober.
Strange parallel universe here it seems. It looks as though Carl is drugged out here, while Pete is sober as he's ever been.
Still will be in 2020.
mad
That live version of Boys in the Band is amazing!
still listening to the libs a month befor 2013
geniuses are often the most tortured psychologically, likely explaining many rock stars tragic early deaths
still listening to the libs in 2012!
still listening in 2024! i’m 16
Babyshambles is (are?) good, DPT are good, but nothing compares to what Carl and Pete create together. They really are two halves of greatness....
i love how they just lie in these interviews!
Peter makes up different answers to the same questions in every interview he does.
" maybe it was the kiss of death "
"maybe it was the kiss of death" the press.
shit, this is great
You're right! I didn't notice it until I read your comment.
they are the most important british band after Joy division EVER!!!!
Well, Pete seems to have gotten into trouble with the law quite a bit this past week, so idk...
But you met Carl?? Ahh I'm so jealous!
I'll take back all the bad things i said about Pete, props to him for giving respect the the Strokes.
Strokes = best US band
Libertines = best UK band
I think exactly the same ;)!! Peter is a wondeful person...
met carl last weekend, such a cool guy x
'buffalo...' hahahaaa
Ooh mooi zo, Nederlandse ondertiteling:P Want bij andere interviews (en deze soms ook) praat Pete soms echt heel onduidelijk xD
I would still get them out for the boy in the band i 2013!!
what's the deal with 'the coral'?
oh pete
i like this band i want to meet this boys!!
i thinks its an epiphone coronet... but i dont think that they make them anymore... ebay?
xx
Mate they are back together...
comparing a oak tree to a buffalo haha that's beautiful!!
petes got a really nice mullet there ha
all business at the front and party at the back ha!
great video

:)
Wow.... pete looks almost clean here!!
Well he's getting better now...
reunion soon
5 stars only because strokes appeared.
Pete sounds like Tufnell here : )
@intenzez Seriously? It actually says "Up The Bracket". When it starts.

nice long hair there pete :') i thought they met coz petes sister was at uni with carl? :S
Megan White Carl’s cousin lived on the same estate Pete did ...they’ve known each other on and off a while
Do you want an award?

You could also say, 'The Libertines sound like a badly recorded Clash'.
The Clash were always badly recorded though..Mick Jones produced the Libs too. I know you're tryina shit on the Libs but they're both chaotic and great imo.
@@brazenlilhussy5975 nah, didn’t mean anything by it. It’s just that Carl said the thing about the strokes being a badly recorded vv.
@@danh4724 Oh my bad man, I actually realised that after I'd written the comment and couldn't find the vid again .lol..once again, my bad.
i thank carl very much, because without him pete would be a poet now and no singer...
sry for my bad english...
Sorry Two Great Boys in a Band. Don't think I'm forgetting John and Gary. They've been awesome too
i have met carl as he is my cousins dads brother
Well we must be related then Eula. He's my cousins dads brother's son's brother! x
well i am not technically related because he's his step brother but i have a new friend now! x
blades92 your cousin
my dads friends with carl lol
I think The Strokes have a more visable style for marketing, Libs are more messy in that sense. But I like it that way :)
What's the song they're singing at the beginning of the video?
@skint0n0minted
maybe there music is easy to play, but they have great lyrics. anybody can learn how to play guitar but not everyone can be a good songwriter. and how does pete glorifys drug addiction? do you think he asked to be in the paper's?
Oh my god Pete likes pet shop boys too! Who'd have thought? 😂
buffalo...?! hahahah xD
Nah man you don't want a reunion for the money's sake, you want a genuine reunion for the music. Anything less than that would be a tragedy.
What are they saying about the strokes??please
Rent is a great psb song

@skint0n0minted
he hardly ever even talks about drugs in interviews, "he'll be dead soon" how long have people been saying that for? i don't think he does drugs anymore.
