It's so nice to see kids install INJEN in take systems. I use to do these things in my car 15 years ago. Get a couple for friends, work to save up for the next mod. Staying away from drugs etc.
My advice stay away from credit cards kids, I know you want to make your ride sick! But you looking back at my age all was a waste of money. Nowadays I only invest in the interior, because i spend 80% of my life in it lol not outside it. My thoughts

Don't stay away from credit cards, credit is required in life unless you have access to ungodly amounts of money. Take the time to carefully use and pay them off every month, then with good credit the ability to purchase a better car or even buy your own house is possible. HAVING NO CREDIT IS NO LIFE AT ALL.

Fun fact, sucking in hot air is a big mistake later on.
Not sure why these are called cold air filter upgrades. Reason why I say that is you have a car sucking air from inside a hot engine compartment. Yes, it looks cool and as long as your engine hood is open it will give the engine cold air. But when u close the hood, nothing but hot air is being sucked in. It will drop performance before it gives u a gain. The stock filter upgrade sucks cold air much better specially when u install just a K&N filter on the stock set up. So before spending so much money for a cold air intake kit make sure you look at the set up. The car that was set up pretty good was the Demon,Hellcat with the headlight delete. The Ford Thunderbolt in the 60's came out with that set up before Dodge copied it...by the way I have a 2013 Kia Optima SX model.
Maverick Grabber actually a short ram intake.. or as you call it "hot air intake" doesn't necessarily drop performance. just with any aftermarket air intake system, you should get a tune for it. with out a tune, you will be taking in more air than fuel. if you get a tune done to match the amount of fuel to air ratio, you will have power gains. but I will say a cold air intake is better than a short ram. colder/more dense air will equal more power
I have to agree because This makes sense especially for me that owns a mid engine toyota mr2 engine bay is pretty hot when closed so there no need for a cold air intake when the air is hot inside unlike the stock setup as the piping goes downward away from the engine thus providing less heated air because it is taking air from underneath the but still inside the engine bay totally agree stock with K N Filter

I'm a Kia master tech and you unbolt all the intake piping from the bottom. I'll let you know I've seen this 100 times and it does nothing. But you know what does??. Ohh I don't know if I should tell you this. It's has a adjustable wastegate.

This will actually hurt performance. The optima has a oem ram air from the factory sucking in cold air not hot..

It will not hurt performance. It isn't as much a boost as a CAI would be, but it is better than factory intake. The main factor is airflow, not temperature.
While I agree with your comment, I feel like the RAI on the turbo Optimas are subpar from the factory, ie; it doesn’t seem like the very small, and flat intake allows a lot of airflow in, however it likely has to do with the A/F ratios and stats that they wanted the cars to have.

What does that part you referred to as the "snorkle" do and is it necessary to put back once the new intake is installed
The snorkel just is basically a hidden hood scoop to direct cold air from the front of the car under the hood directly to the intake. NOT necessary but I think its a good idea to put it back on!
@@CameronAlford Of course you need it. If you didn't direct cold air towards the filter/intake, the ONLY air it would intake would be hot engine bay air. Because hot air isn't as compressible as colder air, you actually would LOSE boost if the only intake air was coming from a hot engine bay.

J. CARTER cold air intake is better ! You’ll get much more cold air especially for a Lancer a C.I.A is the way to go!

Huge power nerf with all the hot air from the engine. You have to shield off the filter section.
TBH the filter just won't work well on that engine, it's squeezed in behind the battery and right next to the engine itself.
Gdi engines get dirty
yea I noticed big time... Kia pushed regular oil and 87 octane fuel... I run synthetic oil. High octane in summer etc(6 month) and regular in winter with a high octane every few fill ups. Keeps everything clean. Noticed a huge difference with high octane. not much in gains but in clean running engine.

@@pdog2448 one issue was that it was idling rough all the time. Kia recommended a cleaning additive or treatment every 2 years ;) My father did it on his 1.6T Tuscon. I instead started using 91 octane. Instant difference was that idling was smoother. A few weeks down the line, idling is smooth as well as ecceleration / high revs sounding great. It sounded good before but .. grungy waspy sound. There is a difference in mileage as well. Changed the spark plugs and voila, it purrrs now.

Save your money for a better motor! Any money spent on "performance parts" for an optima is a waste, they don't do anything.
