    Tornado! I played a game 'Tornado' in the 90's, and this was so great!!! Terrain following radar, precision bombing and all.

    Desperately want a Heavy for DCS. Thinking B-52, any of the Russian fast mover bombers such as the Tu-22 or B-2B. And then off course, a E-3 or Hawkeye Airborne Command and Control. But I suspect all of these will require dual crew. Like your idea of the Pucara.

      ZS IFK CzarPeppers the reason why they haven't and probably never will add bombers is because it needs a team a crew and that means you have to have 3-5 and possibly more guys that know how there systems work just to make it slightly effective and the time to model and develop lets say a b52 would take 10-20 years if you wanted it to be realistic

      The F15C will probably never be full fidelity. It's still in use today, and therefore is still quite classified with constant remodeling of the systems and avionics. The Flanker will probably become full fidelity, and the Frogfoot I'd imagine too.

    Mig-23 needs to be in DCS (more soviet stuff in general) but honestly its not a great fighter. It has a few things improved over Mig-23, but its an incredibly dangerous plane to fly, because of its sweep wing and flight characteristics. These tinhs would make it a very interesting plane. Mig-27 would be interesting. better cockpit visibility and good air to ground systems, and of course the minigun.
    I'm going to take your F-102 and raise a F-106. Similar concept, but with Aim-4s, and a genie nuclear bomb (or a gun in its place) I've always been fascinated by the F-102/106's cockpit. It appears to have a yolk, which is in fact two control sticks stuck together, one for controlling the plane the other for the radar.
    I've also considered a Su-15 flagon for the same reasons you mentioned.
    Su-17/22 would be awesome, but I'd like an SU-7 just enough. I'm very fascinated with Soviet frontline aviation, especially the ground attackers.
    TU-16 is a very influential and interesting bomber, and a good pick. Especially for F-14. As far as advanced russian bombers go, I'd prefer an Su-24 over a Tu-22.

      One of the biggest challenges of simulating a modern/cold war soviet bomber will be the complex defensive/offensive stations simulating the ECM and attack radar usage. It will actually end up like a radar simulator, especially in case of those bombers specifically designed to carry cruise missiles. Su-24 will more easier as well as versatile option.

      its very hard to program swept wings as with each change you need to change the flight model and characteristics, the mig 23 would be slightly esiar as in real life it only had 3 settings and not a slider sweep

    The F-104, Mig-23 and Su-17/22 would be great imo, I would also really like to see an A-7 module and maybe an F-100.
    There is also an even more obscure Soviet interceptor than the Su-15; the Tu-128, the largest fighter aircraft ever built.

    *Hawker Hunter.* Widely exported, used in a variety of roles, broadly contemporary to the F-86 and MiG-15 (and fought against them on occasion), stayed in service for decades (there was tragic guncam footage of an Iraqi one being strafed on the ground in the 2003 misadventure), and - most importantly - absolutely beautiful.

  • @bgabor1911
    @bgabor1911 8 лет назад +7

    I totally agree with GrmlZ, the MiG-23 is a very obvious candidate for a DCS module. The MLD fighter version would fit in the current DCS plane park perfectly, plus the developer can make the MiG-23BN or MiG-27 ground attack plane with little effort and modifications. Very similar planes for two totally different roles. And unlike the MiG-21, the MiG-23 could actually fight planes like the F-15 with its (R-23 ad R-24) BVR missiles. And they can find plenty of information about the plane.
    Its so obvious of a choice, I really dont get it why some third party developer dont develop it already for DCS.

    • @bgabor1911
      @bgabor1911 8 лет назад +2

      I see that know the MiG-23MLD was capable to fire even the R-73! R-60Ms and R-24 SAR missiles were standard armament. The ground attack variants were able to fire TV gudided, electro optical, laser guided and even anti ship missiles. What a plane!

    I would love to see the F4 Phantom, Saab 35 Draken, Mi-24 and the AH-1 Cobra

    • @Geobiery
      @Geobiery 8 лет назад +5

      F-4 Phantom is a must have someday, because of how widely used it was/is, how well it fits in with current aircraft, and just because its a cool bird.
      Draken would be interesting.
      Mostly, we just need F-4, Mig-23, and I agree with you on Mig-25 and Mig-31. Mig-25 would be fun to fly and can go up against F-18. Mig-31 would be able to stand up against the future F-14, but is unlikely

    • @Lemard77
      @Lemard77 8 лет назад

      MiG-31 gameplay would be like: Take off, go to 20 km altitude, accelerate to 3000 km/h, fire missile at +100 km range, ????????? ==> profit lol.
      Also jam other fighter's radar with it's own massive one.

    • @Geobiery
      @Geobiery 8 лет назад

      Well yeah, but that's still pretty interesting. The Mig-21 is similar, but its more interesting because your missiles are crap, your radars crap, and your at a disadvantage so you must rely on GCI and utilize tactics such as low level popups. Mig-31 is similar to an F-14, just a more purebred interceptor.
      Mig-25 is the same, but the Mig-25 radar isn't necessarily good and would be more interesting to operate partly due to its single crewmember. Mig-25 also doesn't have a set top speed, only limited by how hot the engine can get. It would be very fun in different circumstanes, the best in my mind being on Gulf of Hormuz. A player flies a Mig-25 medium altitude at high speed, penetrating Iranian air space, to be intercepted and possibly shot down by Iranians F-14s that would be vectored along a course of interception in hope of getting in range. (Wouldn't be too bad with the F-14's massive range of Aim-54s.

    • @Lemard77
      @Lemard77 8 лет назад

      I didn't meant it as boring, I meant it as some sort of an untouchable badass way heheh Thing with the MiG-25 is that it's early radar although powerful was mostly effective vs high alt bombers, not so much vs fighters flying low... Also only 4 long range (and quite oversized) missiles without cannon.

    • @Geobiery
      @Geobiery 8 лет назад

      Yeah most radars of the time (Soviet development during creation of Mig-23/25 were almost decade behind US) were incapable of look down shoot down. F-4 and Mig-21, just for examples, had the same thing, and thats why its a strategy in Mig-21 to fly below an enemy's radar arc. Mig-31 has a gun, but I doubt you would use it much, except for maybe against crippled bombers. The Soviets apart from using it as a bomber interceptor used the Mig-25 as a recon plane, and as the objeect of shows of force, hence penetrating an enemy's airspace.

    They should make a Vietnam/Southeast Asia map and simply add planes to suit the theater which would could also be used for other historical wars of the late 60s/early 70s like the Israeli wars. Tonkin carrier alpha strikes, Thud Ridge missions out of Thailand and CAS missions in Laos/Cambodia/South Vietnam w/ skyraiders, canberras and hueys.
    They should just do a cockpit reskin of the BiS for older MiG-21 variants like in nam and just make approximations of the weaker engines and switching out certain functions instead of being super realistic. Better than just using the BiS when it wasn't used. Maybe the community could do this.

    +GrmlZGaming *The new Modules for Eagle Dynamics DCS: World have me thinking of nice-to-haves as well.* Among the types appropriate as foils for just-introduced ships:
    a) *Chance Vought F8U-2.* Developed in the mid-1950's and packing quad Colt Mk 12 Mod 2 cannon and often two Hughes AIM-9B IR and two AIM-9C SARH AAM's in U. S. Navy and Marine Corps service, the "Crusader" was a known bogey for the Viet People's Air Force MiG pilots, having a T/W advantage on the Mikojan-Gurevich-17F2 "Super Soldier''s Fighter" and a wing loading advantage on the Mikojan-Gurevich-21PF "Balalaika." An appropriate foil for the recently-released Mikojan-Gurevich-21bis.
    b) *Avions Marcel Dassault Breguet Mirage F.1.* This French aircraft was a scaled-down F-8 in practice, powered by a SNECMA Atar 9K50 turbojet and packing two 30mm DEFA cannon and a mix of Matra 530 and 550 AAM's. A competitor for the same market at which the MiG-21 and the U.S./Northrop F-5E "Enhanced Freedom Fighter" were pitched. (I find "Tiger II" somewhat offensive - that name was already used for the USN-USMC/Grumman F11F-3.)
    c) *Chengdu J-7G.* This Chinese fix of the Mikojan-Gurevich-21F has better fuel distribution than the Russian original, plus an improved wing (57°/45° LE) downsized from the Sukhoi-15/21 and avionics comparable to the MiG-21-93 mod. Still packs two Nudelmann-Richter 23's internally, plus a range of Eastern and Western A/G stores and up to two Rafael Python IV IR AAM's.
    d) *Grumman F9F-8.* Known as the "Cougar" in U. S. Navy and Marine Corps service, this swept-wing carrier fighter was an exact contemporary of, with similar issues to, the Republic F-84F "Thunderstreak" then in U. S. Air Force service. Contemporary of the North American F-86F and FJ-3 and Mikojan-Gurevich-15bis.
    I concur on the call for the *Sukhoi-17M4* - a late-1960's design fix for the Sukhoi-7B that handles most Russian cluster-rocket pods and lighter A/G missiles. Wings extend for take-off and landing, sweep back for operational manoeuvres.

    I feel the same way about you do about fighters and interceptors of the Cold War era. The most interesting part of the aircraft are their limitations and methods of application. In addition to what you have listed, (Mig-23, also Mig-27 as a Ground Attack variant), the module would be great, and it works with variable geometry wings: the Su-17(18,19,22) (You later did mention the Su-17/19/22, and I would second that) . It would be a perfect medium between the Su-25 and Mig-21.
    If you are concerned about early Cold War interceptors, I would think about the A-4 Skyhawk, as a direct competitor to the Mig-21.
    Secondarily, A-7 Crusader would be very nice. An A-6 Intruder would be interesting, but it would be limited, such as a C-101 Aviojet. Also, ECM roles would be hard to simulate.
    Additionally, the Panavia Tornado would be my first choice after the Mirage in regards to European fighters. Etendard would also be reasonable.

    My personal wish list for the future looks like this. Migs: 23, and 27, SU-17, MI-24, Ah-1Q, F-16 whatever block we flew in the first gulf war, the Mirage 300 ,and updating the Flaming cliffs jets to full DCS. On top of that I'd like some gen ave stuff. That's just the kinda modern jets.

    I like your videos, you flying is good, entertaining and I always learn new things. I have the Mig 21 module and love it. I enjoyed your opinions and I think my top picks would be the F104G Starfighter. I think the modeling of its unique aerodynamics and the challenge that would bring, trying to use speed and strategy to out fly tighter turning fighters, plus some ground attack. Basically I think it would be a lot of fun. I think the Su-17/22 Fitter is also a great choice. Too bad more people on the forums don't think so. I wonder what you would think about the IL 28. It would also be a good choice for a bomber; long lived, lots of history. A little slow perhaps but interesting soviet design for sure.

    It fits into the 2nd/3rd generation fighters, and have interesting flight characteristics, due to it being the first supersonic fighter built.

    Was really surprised in that there was interest in making a IA-58 Pucará module, when I looked up the forum topic it was kind of sad to see so much 'no' from the users to it (largely to be a rather unknown plane and it's mission). Some said that with the Super Tucano it was enough for a light-attack/ COIN aircraft, but they are a bit different... with the Super Tucano being a way more modern plane, able to use smart weapons.
    The Pucará in it's earlier versions might be good for a 70's timeline, also one of it's missions that might be useful in DCS and wasn't mentioned in the forum topic (only read the first 10 pages out of 20) is it's anti-helicopter capability (as can maneuver and be slow enough to engage reliably with it's 2x20mm + 4x7.62mm guns). The ability to operate in improvised grass airfields might be good to use it as a front line fast deploying CAS plane from a battlefield perspective (while other planes have to operate from proper airfields far away) putting it straight into helicopter territory (and with this an effective way to secure CAS and get rid of enemy choppers).

    Since Gml had mentioned the USAF F-102, why NOT the F-106? There are records where the F-106 went head-to-head with the F-4d/e, and TOPPED IT. I am a former USAF Phantom Phixer Supervisor/ Asst Shop Chief, 35th TFW/35thAMSqdn, Radar Calibration Docks, George AFB, 1977 - 1980. DCS running an F-4 as a "pilot only" configuration dismantles half the capability of the aircraft, since the weapons control system was "under the hood and in the back seat". The pilot had no control of the radar intercept system, just the display screen, and the slave to radar optical sight system/headsup display. The guy in the back had the controls, as well as a second set of fully functional flight controls, including the ejection system for both crewmen.
    The F-106 had as busy a cockpit as the AJS-37 Viggen. In 1974, the 95th FIS was still flying them from Dover AFB, Del., as alert birds.

    Too few games are inbetween the FSX&Xplane crowd and the small fast fighter jet. I did play one a lot, in the Jane's era, forgot the name. There was just something about sneaking in with a B-2, Tu-160 or F-117 flying high, and evading radar and sneaking back out. B-52 or B-1 low fast flying was great too.

    Intresting video (y)
    Perso, I follow DCS since ~15months, only started since june to play (on 1.57) and get MUCH!!! to learn yet ofc (specialy as am intrested in full realism only, as ultimate skill to reach), but i can already say, imo (just rookie yet ofc), then these modules would be fantastic to have:
    F18
    F16
    F4
    F14
    AH64
    And Mi24...
    Seems to be the best hope for further modules playable imo.
    For those existing, i used summer sales to get all those i wanted with 2 restrictions:
    - No prop planes on DCS (am a big fan of IL2 BoS, already have all DLCs there and will continue next, i love props as they are in BoS, so no need to play them again on DCS in my case).
    - no helos modules for now as i dont have rudder yet, and without its a none sens to start helos, it will be for next year (with Ka50, huey & Mi8 to buy there for sure).
    So, i foccus on jets with DCS, seems me the best economical & sensed strategy, for me, now.
    I am still missing a Track IR pro 5 too (normaly planed to buy for this month, but with summer sales of DCS, it will be for augustus, in next 15days to come), and i also bought a X52pro hotas in may2017 as my former joystick was really old and unadapted to high rank flight sims...
    And so about existing modules, i bought with summer sales:
    FC3
    Combined Arms
    Mirage 2000C
    Viggen ASJ37
    F86
    Mig15
    Mig21bis
    L39C
    Campaign for F86 & Mig15
    Campaign for Su27
    And WW2 asset pack (even if i guess i did a mystake here, i wanted the normandy map mostly, not ww2 stuffs as i dont play props on DCS, but it seems not allowed to play with all my crafts on 1.57 ? I must check to solve that yet, may i missed something...???).
    But for the rest, u can imagine the huge work it will be to learn already all these ones ! Lol
    ..even just custom all cmds, what i do now, is a hug job and will take ~2months to do seriously+improve, then next only increase my skills, etc. :p
    But i think these are the real intresting of all existing modules.
    Am still also missing A10C+all campaigns and F5 maybe, but it will be for further sales period, already enough to do now with all others and A10A of FC3, etc.
    C101 & Hawk are secondary compared with L39 for training module, i think.
    And Gazelle helos, if i understood well many xp advices, needed improvements first (and is particulary tough to play too) to really worth spending...
    But anyway, helos is for later with a rudder to buy first in my case.
    Beside that, all the others modules worth the investment afaik, i cant judge yet about advanced mastering of all these planes, i only begin with, but on 1.57, all those i bought worth to be purchased (at one moment or an other depending of budget we each have).
    And for new ones, ofc i aim F18 & F16 most of all, and really hope they'll exist for 1.57 asap... (but its not an emergency ! Lots of work for 2next years of flight easally with DCS, devs can take their time... from my little point of view, its not hurry ! Lol)
    I just hope i will not need to purchase all 2.5 versions (even if i expect soon or later i will must for a part anyway, for a reason or an other) for further F18, AH64 or F16 IF! They become real later, thats my only real fear...
    But for the rest, all these modules worth spending without hesitation (and from a "jet & air warfare perspective" mostly, in my case).
    Last remark, I hope Combined Arms will be improved also, have a real & realistic Tanks simulator could be awesome ! ♥
    ... and CA has all bases needed to be, so, i cross fingers for that too :)

    I would like to see like you more aircraft from the 50's to early 70's, my reasoning behind this is because they are less likely to be classified so the information should be easier to hold of and module makers won't have to jump through as many hoops to be allowed to make it.

    How about introducing something crazy like the interceptors that would have launched the Air-2 Genie missile (F-106, F-101 Voodoo, F-89). That would be a complete different gamemechanic. Using an unguided missile to destroy bombers.

    I like your list, I tend to agree with you about highlighting some lesser known cold war era aircraft. I would really like to see A-6E Intruder as an option. I know the A-10 gets a lot of interest for subsonic ground attack role, but in Vietnam the A-6E did a lot of work and as far as I can tell has been relatively unmentioned. Or perhaps even an A-4 Skyhawk, I really like the delta wing and small stature of the aircraft. As for the eastern side, something like SU-15 or MiG-23 are beautiful and would be pretty sensible and fun counters to the above mentioned western aircraft. These together could lead to some really fun "cat-and-mouse" type game play as well.

      Oh that's potentially good news on the A-6, I am never on Facebook but now I will go dig into it for myself and see what the deal is.
      I would be excited for the multi-crew possibilities / side-by-side cockpit. Could be fun for some map-of-the-earth night time ground strikes with a friend! Would be neat to have that Su-17 you mentioned as well, I do not know much about the Su-17 admittedly, but seems like it would be suited for a Hi-Lo-Hi raid style attacks. I will have to read up on the Su-17, thanks for bringing that up.

    TBH I'd love to see some kind of X-Wing Alliance or XvT: BoP sim with some kind of DCS like system depth. Even if it's all fiction, why not have something like that in full fidelity? Well, watching this in 2020, SW: Squadrons probably will be the closest we could get there in the near future.
    Now back to DCS ;) - I do like your list and as you mentioned the earlier CW interceptors I already thought you'd pick the Convair Deltas and the Flagon. Great choice. At least we can look forward to getting the MiG-23MLA and an English Electric Lightning so far and the Hind will be here quite soon™ as well. I'd also like to see the Yak-38 as one of the less commonly known ones.

    I kind of wish the F-20 Tigershark became a module. Never adopted, no, but all the avionics are well-documented (Radar used in KAI FA-50 and ADIC Ching-Kuo), and as far as systems go it's basically a hot-rodded F-5 with an internal starter booster. Some think that it was ruined by weight and complexity but in reality it's TWR was still excellent, it's availability was still high, it was still dirt cheap to run (much cheaper than F-16 in ling run) it had the fastest cold and dark to wheels up time of any combat aircraft ever, (19 second starter to idle, 21 second INS alignment (can be done while taxiing), "very short" APG-67 warm-up) And it was a multirole aircraft of the capabilities of the F/A-18A at a fraction of the price when everyone was buying lower-capability vipers. Only ruined by the USAF's need to get people to buy vipers and drive costs down, something plagueing the JAS-39 right now with the F-35. A perfect introduction to the world of modern fighters then, though its payload and range mean it will not ever replace more complex modules like the Bug or A-10

      I know :(
      Better idea, an advanced tactical bomber, F-111 (prime variant D or F) and/or Su-24 (prime variant M or M2) just about the heaviest bombers that are practical in a fighter-dominated environment like DCS. They fill a niche that nothing else in or planned for DCS does nearly as well - bomber and heavy attack/interdiction - they are both relatively advanced aircraft (and D and M2 especially), they offer options to branch out into even more specialized roles (EF, FB, MR, MP), and they, unlike strategic bombers, are maneuverable enough to not be complete sitting ducks. They were so good at their jobs that they were only replaced once far more flexible aircraft (F-15E, F/A-18F Aus, Su-34) were introduced for the specific purpose of replacing them. The F-111 was also operated by Australia, and the Su-24 is operated by several countries, including Iran (relevant to gulf map), Algeria, Ukraine, and Syria, and were once operated by Libya and Iraq, among others. If you want strategic maneuverability and can sacrifice outright speed, the A-6E TRAM would be the perfect companion to the F-14, though I think one may be in development

      CzarPeppers the reason why they haven't and probably never will add bombers is because it needs a team a crew and that means you have to have 3-5 and possibly more guys that know how there systems work just to make it slightly effective and the time to model and develop lets say a b52 would take 10-20 years if you wanted it to be realistic

  • @alx1058

    If the current trend of 'air quake' continues then we really need to think about the direction things go. I think the biggest issue we have is a lack of theatre coherency.... look at what we've got now - clickly cockpit Mirage 2000 in the caucauses? Sabers and mig-15s and no korea map? It's somewhat frustrating that there hasn't been any apparent co-ordination here....
    On that note, my personal vote would be a classic, a tricky air war with its own theater and an air-war that would be, while not balanced, more interesting for either side...
    DCS: Rolling Thunder.
    Requirements: Vietnam Map. ---THIS FIRST!
    F4 Phantom
    MiG-19 with the older IR missiles
    A4 Skyhawk (already under development)
    MiG-21 - ALREADY IN GAME
    F-105 Thunderchief (oh pleaaaaaase yes!)
    Uh-1 - ALREADY IN GAME
    F5- ALREADY IN GAME
    That combination would allow carrier ops, ground attack, and air superiority for the combat, and would capture the mainstay of air combatants on both sides. It could be expanded with
    MiG-17
    F-100
    A1-Skyraider
    Anything from the century-series
    A6 Intruder (some rumours of maybe under dev?)
    A7-Corsair
    The key to this though isn't just one little module here nor there, but a concerted effort by a community or group of communities (including ED and the third party devs) to actually push it through together... and that, sadly, is probably a pipe dream. It's a pity, because a lot of the work (less than half, but a significant amount!) including helicopter physics (and a viable helo platform), the older soviet missiles (thanks Mig-21), and some air platforms (21, A4, F5) are already present... Unfortunately, there just ISN'T that co-ordination - DCS, very sadly, isn't about presenting a complete package, but of providing an engine that dedicated developers can make planes for. Outside the ED modules there isn't any coherence for proper conflict, as compared to the likes of ww2 sims (Well, it's a ww2 sim... it has to be based on something!) or the Falcon 4 BMS campaigns
    :( Pipe dreams are still nice to have though.

    • @alx1058
      @alx1058 8 лет назад

      I hold high hopes for the Strait of Hormuz to address a lot of this, but again it lacks the co-ordination really needed to deliver a full theater + playable platforms all at once.
