Axel's method of operation is "if you can't dazzle someone with your brilliance, baffle them with your BS".
Axle's boss "Inspector Todd" (Gil Hill) was actually a real deal Detroit police detective when the movie was made. Originally Hill was assigned to the film crew as a police consultant and the director liked his personality and had him audition for the part of Inspector Todd and the rest is history.
That’s awesome
I never knew that. He has a fairly small role, but plays it to the hilt. I can see him as a real-life cop.
No wonder he's so authentic!! I love his character.
A very corrupt one too. His documentary is quite shocking. He passed away before the hammer dropped
"HEY WHY HE LOOK LIKE HE DONE KILLED 4 OR 5 PEOPLE?"...... UHM.... 😳 im guessin cause he probably did..... He was a big time dirty cop... Watch the Documentary White Boy... 🫤
Originally, Sylvester Stallone was cast as Axel Foley. He wanted the movie to be darker and more action based. They replaced him with Eddie Murphy and made this. Sylvester Stallone made his darker version, “Cobra”. This movie blew Cobra out of the water in every way 😂
If someone is getting their brains blown out in the hallway, I'm not coming to the door either 🤷🏿♂️
You make a good point lol but you know it’s always one dummy that’s got to look
"...they're fucking Detroit up, but are they really?"
I'M DEAD. BURY ME, YOU KILLED ME, MAN!
🤣🤣🤣🤣
I've never met anyone else who has heard of Perfect Strangers, loved that show.
Me too.
Bro serious. Who didn't love Balki ?
The music in all the Beverly hills cop movies is so iconic!
I’m ready to watch the rest
That right there is Eddie's signature laugh
Yet another film featuring young Jonathan Banks (Mike Ehrmentraut from Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul.) He's been showing up in a lot of reactions to older films lately for me.
Eddie passed the role in Ghostbusters to star in this, definitely made a great choice this was made for him!
It really was. It been nice to see him and Bill Murray in ghostbusters together though
@YT Winston's character
@@laurenherda2415
I think Murphy would have been miscast since Winston is supposed to the the "straight man" of the group and Murphy does better when he's playing guys that are a little wacky.
If you block the tailpipe of a car and prevent the exhaust fumes from coming out, there will no longer be room in the engine for fresh air to come, which will shut off the engine. It is a real thing.
JL would never fall for the banana in the tailpipe
🤣🤣🤣 never
It will never not amaze me that John Ashton (Taggart) was only 36 years old in 1984.
🤯
And likewise that Eddie Murphy, poised and confident carrying this whole movie on his back, was all of twenty-three. Incredible.
can't believe you haven't seen this. good line up.
Lol I had no clue! Dude looks almost 50 😂
It is interesting how people in the 80s looked much older than people now. :)
Lol, “Hey man, you all see that dudes pants? I bet he has a yeast infection.” You friggin kill me with quick lines every movie man. Forgot to mention your awesome use of your self censoring icons being relevant to the film, in all your videos, are 🍌 brilliant. These are the golden years of Eddie my guy. Follow up with part 2 and part 3 if you want to. Must see Eddie - Coming To America, Trading Places, Golden Child, 48 Hours and Standup specials Raw and Delirious. If you like Judge Reinhold, obviously the rest of the serious and check out Ruthless People with him and Danny Devito. Great job as always!
Much love and thanks.
Axel Foley is an epic character. Eddie Murphy ruled the 80’s.
If you love Billy Rosewood you have to watch the sequels just to see his character development. So much fun 😂
Lol I heard he’s the best thing about part 2
@@J_EOMReacts Fo Sho
@@J_EOMReacts 😂😂😂 I didn't notice it was you I was reply to (gonna add my main post I just edited, one sec)
I love Beverly Hills Cop but I like the 2nd one even more. The story is much more intricate, imo
Oh if you want to reeeeeeeally laugh check out his SNL stuff...Gumby, Alfalfa, and Mister Robinson's Neighborhood just off the top of my head 👍 (I know you won't do a reaction for it but I think you'll love it)
I fell in love with The Blues Brothers from SNL too and they ended up making a FANTASTIC movie from that skit. Lots of great musical acts in the movie, Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, Cab Calloway... THAT would be an awesome reaction 💜
LOVE Billy's development! He's one of the few reasons why I adore BHC 3 😅
Damon Wayans handing Axel all those bananas always makes me laugh.
"🤫 take those bananas" 😅
Eddie Murphy is an icon. All of his 80's - early 90's films are gold.
10:32 BINGO!
That's him, cousin Balki
"...He looks like he used to be a vampire..."?
You effortlessly crack me up. THAT is why your channel continues to grow. Another great one.
Here comes Count Blackula! Dum-dum-dum!!!
Next Eddie Murphy movie/movies should be 48 Hours & it's sequel Another 48 Hours.
Those are on the list
This is such a perfect 80s movie with an absolutely killer soundtrack. I remember when Axel-F was in the charts here in the UK while I was in my last year of school. Such an iconic track.
I love Ronny Cox in this. He's such a versatile actor. He played the bad guy in Robocop and Total Recall so well, but he's so likeable in this role.
Cox is not a bad folk singer and songwriter either.
@@civlwrbuf Wow, now that’s something I didn’t know!
I really enjoyed Ronny Cox in this because, in every other movie, he's a bad guy.
This was Eddie Murphy at his peak funny. And whenever my husband tells me to "Get the F@ck out of here!" I always reply with "No, I can not!" in Surge's voice.
With a lemon twist
That's so adorable 😂
- "A 🍌 in the tailpipe!"
- "That's what SHE said...!"
This is an epic performance by Eddie Murphy and the humor is timeless. Great pick for a review 👍
This movie never gets old for me. I remember seeing it in the theatre and I've probably watched it once a year ever since.
"I'm not tellin' you what to do, but you know what I would do?" - Paul Reiser, rhetorical.
Going to the movies every week back then was such a blessing and blast! Thanks again!
For pennies! 😩😭😮💨
Excellent reaction, absolutely loved it. The bananas in the tail pipe would absolutely work, they would limit or block the flow of the cars exhaust causing it to backflow into the engine and choking it causing it to stall out. And yes that is Damon Wayans who gives him the bananas.
In the UK, potatoes are favoured over bananas 🥔🚗🤣
Axel's boss was a real police chief in Detroit at the time. Can't believe you haven't seen this movie before. One of my favorites. Kiss the doggies for me. ♥ Second movie is just as good!
At 22:21, the actor has to cover his face and was apparently pinching himself because Eddie was cracking him up too much
One of my fave movies with Back to the Future and Bill and Teds Excellent Adventure!!
I’ve never seen the Back to the Future movies but I absolutely love Bill and Ted series. I haven’t seen the newest one though
23:29 - One of Eddie's best improvs. The whole movie is so great because of them
The guy who played Foley’s Detroit boss was an actual Detroit police officer . Inspector Gil Hill, later Councilman Hill for our City Council .
..he also worked for drug gangs, ordering murders
Weren't they criminals too?
"Before I go, I just want you two to know something, alright? The supercop story... was working. Okay? It was working, and you guys just messed it up. Okay? I'm trying to figure you guys out, but I haven't yet. But it's cool. You fuck up a perfectly good lie."
Fun Fact: Eddie Murphy, John Ashton, and Judge Reinhold improvised most of their comic lines. Literally hundreds of takes were ruined by cast members, actors or the director laughing during shooting. During the "super-cops" monologue, Ashton is pinching his face hard and looking down in apparent frustration. He is actually laughing. Reinhold put his hand in his pocket and pinched his thigh really hard, trying to prevent himself from laughing.
Projection Headline Fact: During his tirade at the Beverly Palms Hotel, Axel pretends to be writing an article called "Michael Jackson: Sitting On Top Of The World" for Rolling Stone magazine. In real life, Playboy ran an Eddie Murphy article with the same "Sitting On Top Of The World" subtitle.
Double Assault Fact: The mansion used in the final shootout between Foley and Maitland (the former Harold Lloyd estate in Beverly Hills) is the same mansion seen in the final shootout between Matrix and Arius in Commando (1985). Coincidentally, both Foley and Matrix were trying to rescue somebody named Jenny in that mansion in their respective films.
I KNEW that mansion looked familiar. Never realized it was in Commando til now. LoL
These facts are brought to you by 🐊
@@EOMReacts it wouldn't be good to have a hotels guest car toed
@@EOMReacts the sequel is great too
Axel employs a lot of social engineering techniques to finesse his way around problems and I love watching Eddie Murphy fast talk.
The faster he talks, the better Axel lies. It's very much Axel's thing, along with Eddie's big laugh.
And that was Damon as the fruit seller. Watch out for another young comedian in Part 2!
Lol Eddie did a great job with this
Eddie's white guy accent at 23:27 is SOOOOO FUNNY!!!
Classic movie for sure ..
Facts
@Extraordinarily Ordinary Media "He looks like he used to be a vampire..." Well, he may be. After all, he is about as old as "Blacula". There's no telling with Hollywood and their obsession with crossovers. Who knows? lol I remember seeing this back in '84 when I was in the 1st grade. My parents took me and my brother and sister to see it one, Saturday morning. Cheers, my man.
He could have been a old pimp too
Man J I just want to let you know your videos help me get through the day sometimes and I appreciate you so much keep doing what you doing brother.
Much appreciated, homie. Stoked to hear you enjoy.
This movie was HUGE, when it came out.
this was a huge movie back when i was in jr high.
thanks for memory lane !
You’re more than welcome
Story for JL & Doggos (+ Blank) on Fruity Tailpipes (yes it works):
Back in '92, we were in a military convoy going to Camp Gruber. Takes all day at 55mph, and they only stop once (usually) on those trips. On our 1 stop, I hop out of a deuce and half (named Longworm) with the driver (dude I went to school with). They had gave us sack lunches full of stuff nobody wants...apples, oranges...and bananas. Immediately, everyone runs to the McDonald's, abandoning lunches, and we see two privates sneak over, and pack the XO's jeep tailpipe at least 2 feet full of apples, oranges...and bananas.
I kid you not, they had a floor broom handle and lookouts, on the side of the highway at 2pm, in broad daylight, doing this, and nobody said nothing. They would cram an apple in, job with that broomstick like a cannon swab, shove the next one in.
Fast forward to a half hour later, the convoy pulls out, and we go to Gruber.
The story comes back- The XO (and driver) started up, pulled out, made it 200 yards and the tailpipe exploded down the center seam for a couple of feet, blowing fruit chunks all over the highway. And yes...he was angry, so by the time they got to Gruber, he was head hunting. He caught the 2 dudes that did it, but chuckles were had by all.
It's the job, boyos...as an officer, sometimes you give the hell, sometimes you catch the frag.
Me? I was just amazed the jeep made it Gruber. It blew the tailpipe basically apart, so they were driving with fruit juice coming out and it was running just fine since half the tailpipe was now gone.
RIP Banana Pipe.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Privates of the Banana Republic strikes again!
One of the best "Cop" movies ever made!
I love this movie! Been waiting for this one for a while sense Blank said it was on the list. Great reaction! 48 Hours is next! Classic Cop flicks. Must watch.
I’m glad you enjoyed and they are on the list
Yes! And Trading Places!
@@cflournoy1529 on the list as well
I understand you punching me but you ain't gone slap me 🤣
The Pointer Sisters songs all through this movie...rock on
Billy is like a golden retriever with a police badge.
Lol that’s so accurate
Best movie openers:
1. Beverly Hills Cop
2. Trading Places
$130,000. The Perfect Strangers guy offered the Serge routine, including the accent for the character. And yes, a plugged exhaust pipe will stall a car. Yes, that's his laugh.
We had a drinking game for this movie. Drink whenever you hear that laugh, drink whenever someone makes a u turn park, there were more I can't remember. The big one was the laugh.
A raggedy assed car and tourist clothes is absolutely the best way to go though Beverly Hills.
I enjoyed your reactions and everything, but I watch for the puppies who don’t have a clue they’re puppies. I love them. And you have a beautiful and genuine smile. This was fun
Lol when I watch them back I watch to see what they doing too. They crack me up with the stuff they do. And thank you for the compliment and showing my babies some love
Yes, you are correct, sir !!! Serge's name in Perfect Strangers was Balki Bartokomous, and was supposed to be from Greece. I knew the first name and spelling, but who the hell could remember the last name, right ???
Yes, the banana trick works great. It's just like the human body, you don't only need to bring fresh in, but you have to be able to expel it too. On a car though, if you block the exhaust pipe(s), the exhaust backs up into the combustion chamber, preventing it from getting in fresh air and, most importantly, FUEL. This chokes the engine, so it stalls.
As a life long resident of LA County, I give you permission to call Beverly HIlls, LA. I've never met anyone out here that would care, and I would call it LA too unless I had a reason to get more specific.
This film takes me back to a good time in my life
8:58 "Looks like he used to be a vampire"......so weird. so funny
🤣🤣🤣🤣
WHOA! Mike from Breaking Bad was in this!
Saw this in the theater when Mom remarried my Stepdad in early 1985-ish. They gave me and my 2 stepbrothers some money to go out. We ended up seeing this. None of us were 17 or had parent or guardian.
The music from this movie was everywhere at the time. Even before seeing Beverly Hills Cop, I knew about some guy name Axel F because of that song being played constantly.
Also, dogs can differentiate between the smell of coffee and whatever drug they're looking for. They're machines and have a ridiculous smell sensitivity way more humans.
The banana in the tailpipe doesn't work. They will just fly out.
Yes, that's Balki from Perfect Strangers which came out a couple years after this.
Just a wonderful classic trilogy ......They are all created equal ......
The third one sucked.
Man I love this movie..the reaction was just as good. Wished I could have stuck around for the live chat. Loved the choice of the Banana. It was perfect. Looking forward to the next one. And I’m with you JL. Billy is the best.. he’s gets better in the next one. Peace!
Yeah, Eddie Murphy talks fast. Imagine him in a movie with Chris Tucker. You'd get a 3 hour epic in 90 minutes!
Lol facts
Until they meet Kevin Hart, then it's just nothing but subtitles for everybody.
"Why would they tell the truth??!" *appalled* haha J keeping it real
Lol he was believing it and they just said nah let’s get in trouble
I love the banana every time you curse!😅🤣😂😁😆
🤣🤣🤣
The music plays whenever Axel is getting into something. They did that on purpose so you'd pay attention. I think the producers said that in an interview (Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer)
I love this movie, part two is funny too! ♥️♥️
it's also nice that you include the year the movie came out in the title. I always look at it for a reference of the era they were in with these jokes they used to do.
"He looks like he used to be a vampire".
🤣🤣🤣
I had a dog that used to fart A LOT! The vet told me to feed him grain free food and give him dog probiotics.
It did wonders! 😁
The bananas in a tailpipe is one of the best pranks ever pulled
Lol I had never heard of it
@@J_EOMReacts it suffocates the engine. Similar to the human body to much exposure to the gases that come out of the engine exhaust in a restricted area will quickly overwhelm the amount of oxygen that is needed to keep the spark in the engine going that ignites the gasoline which again keeps the engine going.
You might piss yourself laughing so hard for this one.
This was a great movie
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid is one favorites.
It’s on the list
The director, Martin Brest, also made the Al Pacino masterwork Scent of a Woman. It's crazy how eclectic some directors can be.
Still to this day blows my mind the same guy made A Christmas Story and Porky’s.
I been wanting to watch that
The Super Cop story was indeed working!!
Lol facts
The funniest part was during the review when you called Detroit " a.k.a. Big Cleveland " LoL I've never heard that but it's hilarious and true
🤣🤣🤣 I know for at least 20 years I have called Detroit “Big Cleveland” and Cleveland “Little Detroit”. They both feel like the same place to me.
Banana's can do anything, don't doubt them
Eddie Murphy is one of a kind! So funny 😂 I also love "coming to America" & "Trading Places". 😉🥰
that music with the Synth is titled “Axle F” it was made just for this film
That’s been stuck in my head since I watched this
Leave it to you to snitch on your dog for letting loose at the beginning. Lol That was some funny shit!
🤣🤣🤣 it was loud and y’all wasn’t going to blame me.
@@J_EOMReacts Don't worry bruh, I knew you didn't lift your leg! Lol
You're the only reactor who actually knows about "Perfect Strangers." Not bad. :)
I laughed so hard at "that was the least tactical roll" from JL haha
Eddie Murphy did actually laugh like that when he was young. He got tired of people asking him to laugh, so he changed his laugh.
I'll second the recommendation of Midnight Run. Another action comedy from the same director as BHC. Robert De Niro has never been funnier, and Charles Grodin was a perfect comedic foil. And like BHC, the action/crime story pays off as much as the comedy. John Ashton (Taggart in BHC) is also in it. And Yaphet Kotto (Parker from Alien), as well. Plus Dennis Farina and Joe Pantoliano. Great cast all around, too many of them no longer with us. It also has a jazzy theme that gets stuck in my head all the time.
We just added that to the list
Midnight run is a underrated classic film.
Btw yess that is eddie Murphy's laugh. Other comics and impressions of him emphasize his laugh.
at 22:15 John Ashton starts pinching his nose because he's for real trying to not laugh at the supercop story.
Once you see it you can't unsee it.
I heard one of them had to pinch their leg for the same reason lol
Awesome Movie and Work Bro, Thanks 👍👍👍😀 Greetings from Helsinki, Finland 🇫🇮🇺🇸🇫🇮🇺🇸🇫🇮🇺🇸
I can hear Peter Griffin humming this theme song right now.
Every time. LoL
"... and then another 'heh heh heh-heh heh'" 😂
The next two Beverly Hills Cop movies are well worth watching as well. Gilbert Gottfried absolutely will knock your socks off in Beverly Hills Cop II, he's so damned funny!
Definitely watching them
1. GOOF: An entire truck loaded with EMPTY cigarette boxes.🙄
2. IMVHO Eddies' best movies are "Trading Places and "Coming to America"😎😎
3. Serge/Bronson Pinchot was in a short lived series "Perfect Strangers".
4. Jenny/Jill Eikenberry played Segar in "An Officer and a Gentleman" HINT HINT
5. One of the best bad guys ever!😁 He also played the Soviet Colonel in Rambo II.
Lol I like the hint
Yes, his laughter has always been that 'Way', there's a fantastically endearing interview of Eddie on the Dick Cavett show, and dear old Uncle Ray! I must recommend it to you.
Amazing soundtrack, too - still a banger after all these years.
Bruh, this movie has one of the best soundtracks of the 80's. Most of it courtesy of the fantastic Pointer Sisters.
Lol I had to download it to my phone

Yoooooo the dog fart had me here looking around here like wtf was that 🤣🤣🤣
Blocking an exhaust pipe causes the gasses that should be leaving the car to instead back up into the engine, choking it and preventing it from starting.
And missing with a shotgun is actually fairly easy if you don't bother to aim it. Holding it at hip height (AKA hip-firing), you only have a general idea of where the barrel is pointing.
That tailpipe thing is just wild to me. Lol I would love to know who was the first person to done it
Turn your steering wheel into the curb. Amen to that brother.
Just saw your reaction to The Mist, perfect. There are some Steven King movies that have “happy” endings. “Cujo” , “Needful Things”, “Silver Bullet”
I’m have to check those out. Lol The Mist had me a little upset
Yes. That was Damon Wayans from 'In Living Color'. Damon was also in 'Colors'. You should check that one out next movie review.
“Did Eddie Murphy always laugh like that and I just didn’t notice?”
Me- What?! What?! The Sultan of Swat, the King of Crash…
In other words- You’re Killing Me Smalls!!
I never remember him laughing like that in Coming to America or Nutty Professor
You thought you'd lose your black card for not seeing this movie I'm more shocked you don't know or never heard Eddie Murphy's iconic laugh
I only seen him in Coming to America, Nutty Professor, and Harlem Nights. If he done it in them it wasn’t as noticeable as in this movie.
Just love JL's reactions. 🤣
Usually it's potatoes in a tailpipe not bananas.
Lol I heard about the potatoes either
The guy who plays axel foleys boss or captain was a real legit Detroit police officer
