I believe almost everyone in my generation gets an instant smile on their face whenever they hear the Blue Oyster Bar music.
Yes!
😂 hell yes
Each and every time!
Right. My old aunt that passed right after my dad passed cause she couldn't live without her baby (that's what she always called him) could not get enough of this movie. She's just start cracking up if you walked by her and started singing - bah dah dah dah dah dah dah 🎶
I'm 16 and I get a smile when I hear blue Oyster bar 😂😂😂😂 love this film 😂😂😂😂😂
This was one of those 80s films that really was not written with a point, but it was written to be fun.
And by god did it succeed in that.
It did have a little bit of a point. There was still a LOT of social pushback against women and minorities in traditionally male jobs, especially "physically demanding" tasks like police, fire, mail delivery, etc. This film was making the point that new ways of doing things aren't necessarily wrong, just different.
@@cmlemmus494 Huh, that's a good point actually. Didn't notice it at first but now you mention it.
being fun IS the point.
@@cmlemmus494 Pushback against minorities in male jobs? I don´t think you got your woke talking points straight.
I love how younger people are now discovering the treasure trove of comedy movies from the 90s, 80s, and so on where movies couldn’t give a 💩 who they offend and everyone laughed together.
“Move it. Move it. Move it.” Such a simple line, but funny as hell.
Michael Winslow, the man of a thousand noises, an absolute legend in the comedy world
One funny detail that I’d never noticed until it was pointed out recently: at 19:00, when Barbara turns with the shotgun and all the cadets fall to the ground, only Tackleberry remains standing in the background. That’s because the guy knows guns so well that he realized the shotgun wasn’t pumped after it fired that first time and therefore couldn’t be fired yet.
Even people who knows guns will tell you to always assume a gun is loaded. It's more likely that Tackleberry is just so crazy, he's keeping up that tough guy act by not moving
@@King-Omega- It's both. He's so hyper-confident in his gun skills he can't believe the gun could fire.
Such a classic. A prime example of how good the 80´s was.
Fun fact: "Karen Thompson" was played by Kim Cattrall (aka Samantha Jones)
This is a funny action comedy film about a couple misfit police officers who try to bring law and order to their city, with disastrous results.
Also RIP, George Gaynes, Aka Captain Eric Lassard
Bubba Smith aka Hightower
Marion Ramsay aka Hooks
David Graf aka Tackleberry
Ed Nelson, aka Governor Neilson.
When Michael Winslow went for the audition, the script writers loved his sound effects so much that they had to change the script to write a character for him, that character has been in all Police academy movies and the cartoon series also.
Video title question - "How is this real?"
Answer - it was the 80s!
Fun fact: this movie was filmed in a shut down insane asylum. How appropriate!
Haha that is just perfect!
@@nickreacts6394 Hi, RUclips recommended your channel to me and you've got yourself a new subscriber. Are you planning to do the Police Academy sequels? Anyway I'm off to check out your other reactions. Laters.
still watch this on the regular to this day. 1-3 are great and they start to fall off after that. the 80's...what a time to be alive
One of my favorite comedies ever! But I would say, the funny moments are more character based than situation based like in "Airplane", which is just a series of silly situations. (I love it, too 😉) What this movie is also doing great is, you never see "all" of a scene, for example Harris' accident with the horse or the hillarious podium scene, it's all in your head 😁 And you'll never listening to that ONE song again without smiling and thinking of the Blue Oyster Bar 😂
DududududI dooo! 😂😂😂
These movies are such nostalgia bliss. A series I probably shouldn't have been watching as a 7 year old, but it was the Eighties. One of my favourite movie memories is seeing the sequel with my dad, in a packed theater. I watched every Police Academy movie multiple times after that, up until part 5 and 6. The last time I saw a group of childhood friends is when we got together to see part 6 when I was 13 years old. We were in an empty theater and my friends threw popcorn at the screen. Silly films that made for good memories, thanks for reacting to this one.
I was 6 or 7 when i first this too lol.
The sequels 2 and 3 are great. Some great character growth now that you know them. Worth watching.
For me all but the last are good, 4 and 6 are the ones i think are great.
The cereal scene in 2 had me rolling.
“I thought they checked the podium.”
Yes, the commandant checked the podium 😉
When Barbara. accidentally discharges his shotgun and turns on the spot the only one who doesn’t duck is Tackleberry. Tackleberry knows that the shotgun is safe because Barbara hadn’t chambered a new round .
i love 80s movies 😅🤣😂
So far, I've been having such a great time in this era of films
Loved your reaction. Did you realize, when Larvell was making the strange noises, sitting on his bed, Harris looking in and shaking his head- Larvell was mimicking playing an invisible video game? That’s how a video game sounded back then.
One of the strangest 80s comedies I can think of is Twins. It stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Danny Devito and Emma Thompson. It’s hilarious.
in the police station you see a juvenile being escorted through the building . he’s wearing a t-shirt with the logo for M*A*S*H on it.
G.W. Bailey who plays the role of Harris was a recurring character in the M*A*S*H tv series playing the role of Sgt. Rizzo
The Steve Gutenberg movie I always loved watching (also including G.W. Baily - aka Sgt. Harris) is Short Circuit. And that movie has a pretty fun sequel as well.
Lavalantua.. Look it up. You won’t regret it..
That movie is an absolute classic. And the sequel was actually pretty good too. Gutenberg was always pretty solid in a movie. He had that manic sort of energy that could be endearing or annoying as needed.
G.W. Baily - aka Sgt. Harris is in movie called Runaway....
G.W. Baily was famously on M.A.S.H. as Rizo the motor pool Seargent also a western parody called Rustlers Rhapsody.
I love this movie so much.
'Jones' is played by the amazing Michael Winslow, who is a whiz at beatboxing and making all kinds of sounds. Look him on here in RUclips. He's amazing.
The co-writer of POLICE ACADEMY was an uncredited writer on AIRPLANE! and co-wrote THE NAKED GUN films.
such a classic iconic series I remember watching all the movies back in the day, got them all on VHS :D
Love that you mentioned the Snyder energy. Yay for Buffy-isms!
Fun detail in the shotgun scene, with Tackleberry being the only person not to duck. Because he is a gun nut and paid attention, the shotgun hadnt been chambered after the shot, so there was no danger of it being fired again. That is why he didnt take cover as it got pointed at them.
The entire Police Academy franchise is just pure nostalgia for me. I think it's crazy that they actually made 7 of them. If you've seen one, you more or less know what you're getting with the others.
As for most outrageous 80s movie ... I have no idea. The first two Naked Gun movies are definitely my favorites, but I guess the Mel Brooks stuff is more out there.
Well now I really want him to watch “Stripes”. It’s the vibe.
I watched this when it was new out but still a child. I absolutely loved the film and I still do all these years later. I must admit that I didn't get the podium joke and I can't remember what my dad said was happening when I asked him. I know that he didn't tell me what was actually going on funnily enough! I like that they did have some strong and varied characters, a reasonable story line and many good jokes.
Since you've reacted to many of my top comedy films from the '80s I would say: Top Secret, Ruthless People and National Lampoon's Vacation spring to mind. Thanks as ever for another entertaining reaction, it's appreciated.
You should watch at least up to Police Academy 5 (there is a total of 7)
Dr Larvel Jones (Michael Winslow) was in Spaceballs as well as many of the sequels to this film 😀
When Hightower hits the car while driving with Mahoney, the driver of the other car is the director... The guy who was supposed to be the driver was unable to play the part and the director took his place to not delay the filming schedule
Maybe 8
Michael Winslow was also on the last season of Americas got talent, I think he made it to the top 10.
BACHELOR PARTY is a crazy movie, written by the POLICE ACADEMY writers. It pushes so many boundaries that it may offend you more than once.
This is one of those movies that has no logic. Sometimes that’s a good thing. I love this movie for nothing but laughs x
One of my favorite jokes from this movie is the podium gag. Even better when Robot chicken did its Xmen spoof of it. "I didn't say stop" Look it up.
"How is this real?" The answer is "It was the 80's man."
I think I inadvertently modeled my passions after Tackleberry.
An excellent role model
@@nickreacts6394 May he Rest In Peace. I'll keep the spirit alive!
The craziest is by a long margin Top Secret 1984, plot is not as strong as in Airplane or Naked Gun, but comedy is solid gold, constant jokes and gags, multiple at the same time, playing with expectations, you won't get a break from laughing :) Also this is the first movie with Val Kilmer and he did great!
It's pinacle schlock... love it.
Hard to do a react to Top Secret though... so much humor in the music, which is hard to keep from getting blocked. I agree though, loads of fun, as is another of his from that era, Real Genius.
"LATRINE!"
"Before Hot Fuzz we had this moment": yes exactly- Edgar Wright admitted in an interview that he was inspired by the garden chase scene @4:35.
7 Police Academy movies were made and an 8th rumored to be in production
Not exactly from the 80's, but before there was Airplane (1980), there was 'The Big Bus' (1976)
Also, on the comedic side (not comedy) 'It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World' (1963 - 3h 30m) and 'The Great Race' (1965 - 2h 40m). Both are a bit long, which is why I added the runtime, because even with just the best scenes? They will probably be multi-part reactions.
I haven't seen the Big Bus in decades. Does it hold up?
@@crucialtaunt5717 I'd say it does. The problem is that it is likely that people will compare it to Airplane and in that comparison it looses. Abrahams, Zucker & Zucker perfected this style of comedy.
I grew up watching the Police Academy film series. Please watch them all!!! I can't wait for you to meet Zed!! As for off the wall 1980s films, have you seen 'A Fish Called Wanda' or 'Real Genius'? They're two of my favorites!
Funny as heck series of movies. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
1-3 are great. After that they're fun but not as good.
Another funny movie with Steve Guttenberg (Mahoney) is High Spirits with Darryl Hannah, Liam Neeson and Beverly D'Angelo.
MVP goes to Tackleberry, he was born for the job.
I loved these movies back in the day. Please please pleeaaase react to some of the sequels, some of my favorite characters will be introduced later.
Zed & proctor 😂😂😂
If you liked this movie, you should watch Revenge of the Nerds.
Awesome reaction ✨ this is one of my favorite movies from the 80s! Glad you liked it also happy birthday to James 🎂 peace ✌️
20:56 I love how Harris is still holding the imaginary stereo 😆
I love Michael Winslow and his many sounds
Thor
"Sound Effects man", Michael Winslow was on American Got Talent 2021 season. He was eliminated in Semi-Finals.
PA 3 and 4, Back in Training and Citizens on Patrol are easily the best of the series, in my opinion. Always go back to those ones.
One of my favorite oddball movies from the 80's is Better off Dead, it's ordinary enough scenario but everyone in it is mental!!🤣😂
The Blues Brothers was 1980.
Super fun thanks a lot!
One of the most hilarious (and underrated) 80s comedy I would wholeheartedly recommend is "D.C. Cab" from 1983. It's ridiculous and never lets up.
Bubba Smith (Moses Hightower) played pro football as a defensive player, and even won the Super Bowl.
Great Movies of the 80's to react to:
- Porky's (1981)
- Top Secret (1984)
- Revenge Of The Nerds (1984)
- Weird Science (1985)
You gotta do Vice-Versa with Judge Reinhold and little Freddy Savage, where they accidentally switch bodies-hilarious!!!!
Bawdy fun. George Gaynes is hilariously understated as Commandant Lassard.
Porky's series or Revenge of the Nerds are out there. Several John Cusack movies like Better off Dead or One Crazy Summer (i always consider them a series as they have a lot in common aside from teen romcom standard fare)
Meatballs series
Ernest series
All out there in their own ways.
Airplane was a shot for shot remake (with visual gags) of an earlier serious movie.
You can check it out in your own time, but Michael Winslow plays A Capella electric guitar and drums in this version of Whole Lotta Love (with guitar accompaniment): ruclips.net/video/1HHMA1Dpo5M/видео.html
I think the most common phrase we used from this movie when I was a kid was "Too bad, so sad, bye bye."
Ah the 80s, when you could make movies with jokes about anything and nobody got cancelled.
36:55 When I graduated, the Salutatorian got up and said, "I asked my grandfather for advice for this speech, and he told me 'Stand up to be seen, speak up to be heard, and sit down to be appreciated.' Congratulations!" Best graduation speech I ever heard.
more police academy please! most reaction channels just stop with the first one when there're 6 more movies to check out
4:32 Was this the first movie to use that gag? This was two years before Ferris Bueller did it.
4:38 Ferris Bueller did it too.
5:34 He could be describing Johnson rifles.
16:16 Undyne energy! Tackleberry was always muh fave.
18:58 Notice how Tackleberry doesn't duck because he knows there's no round in the chamber.
25:00 He probably just shot the branch to make the cat fall.
26:45 Notice the license plate.
26:57 The Gute was also in Short Circuit, along with G.W. Bailey (whose character, Skroeder, was basically Lt. Harris but with the rank of captain). Johnny Five did that same "tear out the seat to make room" gag.
34:07 Why do movie people always use the cross-thumb technique with handguns that don't require it? That technique is only useful with single-action revolvers, and that's a double-action. If you do that with a semi-auto, as movie people do, that's how you get slide-bite. Also, you can cock a double-action revolver single-action style, but it's not something you'd do in combat.
34:41 Joe Don Baker energy.
39:35 One Crazy Summer, Better Off Dead, and Revenge of the Nerds parts one and two.
Another enjoyable 80s comedy that has GW Bailey(Lieutenant Harris) and Kim Cattrall(Thompson) is Mannequin. Another hilarious comedy franchise that has Kim Cattrall in it is the Porky's franchise.
One of Tom Hanks first movies was Bachelor Party. Very crazy funny 80’s movie!
Can't go wrong with a seeing eye hooker.
Oh I love 80s comedies, I hope you do Short Circuit and Look Who's Talking!
My suggestion for a very funny out there 80s film is
Better off Dead
Starring John Cusack, it's one of a few crazy films he made in the 80s. I loved it when it came out and I was young, and I still love it. It's freaking hilarious and would absolutely not be able to be made today.
Great reaction
If you want another really off the wall, out there type comedy from the 80’s, I suggest Revenge of the Nerds. Some of the comedy didn’t exactly age well, but if you take it in the spirit that it was meant to be seen, it’s still incredibly funny.
Great reaction. I love this movie, one of my favourite old school movie comedies (along with Airplane and the Carry On series). Please react to the rest of the Police Academy series (I believe there's 7 films in total, including this one), they're all funny.
If you want outrageous 80s comedy, watch Bachelor Party from 1984 for a young & very different Tom Hanks
Thete are actors in here that youve probably seen before but either forgot or dont recognize.
Tomphson is played by Kim Catrall probably best known as Samantha in Sex & City, Larvel Jones is played by Michael Winslow who is also in Spaceballs and the commisioner is played by George Gaynes (yes that was his actual name) who was in a whole bunch of comedies inbthe 80s and 90s.
Steve Guttenberg (Mahoney) was also a pretty big name in the 80s, primarily for his Police Academy roles (I think he is in 5 of them) but he was also in alot of other classic like "Three men and a baby" 1&2 and "Cocoons".
David Garf and Marion Ramsey also became big names but mostly due to beong fan favorites in this particular franchise.
Commendant*
Not commisioner.
and after all these years, Steve Guttenberg, Michael Winslow, and Marion Ramsey (Hooks) appear together again in the movies Lavalantula, and 2 Lava 2 Lantula, comedy giant spider movies with great over-the-top heroics!
Great reaction. I grew up with the Police Academy movies in the 80's and still love the first 6 now. I hope at some point you check out those sequels, that way you can follow the progress of the careers of many of those characters.
A fun movie by the Police Academy creators is called "Moving Violations"....recommended!
80s movie with the funniest scene I can remember - Porky's
Everyone: You are trapped on a desert island. The only movie you have with you is from the Police Academy series, however it is one of the sequels, not the first movie. Which movie from the series do you choose to be stuck with?
I mean, the sequels have Bobcat so...
3
lassard,harris,..legends!
Might I suggest watching up to 4? After that, the sequels get all stupid and kid friendly. Would you believe they made it into a weekday afternoon kids' show in the late 80's? Well they did.
The woman under the podium is Georgina Spelvin “infamous” for The ( X) 1970s film The Devil in Miss Jones where she was originally not supposed to star but did AND cooked for the set too! Steve Guttenberg had a great role in Diner as well. Instead of Thor, you should be called Samson who biblically got power from his hair❤ Georgina was one of the "Big Three" actresses during the 1970s the other two are the late Ivory Snow girl and David Cronenberg star from Rabid plus her "X" debut Behind the Green Door and Linda Lovelace from Deep Throat. The tough detective trainer would get roles in Mannequin and the tv series The Closer.
The 3 guys chucking Barber over bridge would be charged with attempted murder, assaukt, eeckless endangerment, destruction of private property and several other crimes. After he later beats em up, he should still arrest them for those crimes.
The Most Outrageous Comedy of The 80's is PORKY'S (1982). Another Outrageous Comedy from The 80's Stars Tom Hanks before he was famous called BACHELOR PARTY (1984).
One of the best comedy movies of the 80s among many great movies.
Not comedies (though they have funny bits), but perhaps you could look at Batteries Not Included, Short Circuit (1 and 2), and Flight Of The Navigator, if you haven't seen them already. They are all sci/fi 80s films with a lot of heart, and four of my all time faves ever (nostalgia goggles may be part of that I admit, these were my childhood).
The first, Batteries Not Included, is about living mini alien flying saucer robots who temporarily move in with the residents of an apartment building under threat of forced demolition. One of the most wholesome films I know tbh.
Short Circuit 1 and 2 are are about an experimental military robot (Number 5) who gains sentience after a freak lightning strike. The films follow his exploration of life and humanity in a two part journey that is both entertaining and heart warming. The sequel is comparable to the first in quality too IMO, though the first hits a little harder I think, being the start of Number 5's life, while the second is more expanding horizons and the risks that come with it.
Flight Of The Navigator is about a boy who encounters an alien spaceship, his experience, the fallout, and relationship with the alien AI controlling the ship (this one also has a sound track that has stayed with me ever since I first saw it as a little kid, its haunting and beautiful). This one has the least comedy of the four, just a couple of bits with the AI, but I like it a lot.
If I were to pick just one, I'd pick batteries Not Included for all over feels.
Police academy 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, are great 6, and 7 are just there and the Television show from the 90's based on the movie's was good as well.
WOW. I totally forgot Kim Cattrall was in this!
as i understand it George Gaines didn’t know that they were going to do the set up with the shoe polish around GW baileys mouth. His laughing reaction was real
A forgotten classic..loved this movie!!!!
I like Bobcat Goldwaithe as the villain
That's part two lol.
The Police Academy Franchise is just comedy gold that I do hope you check out.
You need to check out number 2&3
Marion Ramsey (Hooks) modeled her characters voice to resemble that of Michael Jackson .
Saw this one at the movie theatre, back in the day..Soo long ago.🍿🎥🍿📽️🙏👍😁😀🇸🇪🍿🍿
I loved these movies as a kid, in the 80s us kids got to watch a lot of things that we probably shouldn't have. But it was kind of normal at the time.
I really don't know what movie from then is really the most over the top comedy. Almost everyone has a scene or two or more, that you never seen anywhere and extreme. I think anyways, since I got to watch any movie I wanted then, it is hard to say really what is normal or over the top. But here is a list of some movies from the 80s, nobody really reacts to anyways, that I would like to see reacted to.

🤣🤣🤣 Police Academy was funny as shit back in the day .. literally seemed like alot of let's just do the scene and see where it takes it.
The Naked Gun, Weekend at Bernie's, and Porky's for more '80s comedies that give no F
Please do part two
I could damn near write a paper on 80s comedies. They ranged from out there and over the top to family friendly and conventional, and everywhere in between. The most outrageous and over the top ones tended to fall into one of three buckets, with a fair amount of crossover. There's the absurdist: Airplane! is one of the best examples, along with the Naked Gun series. And maybe the top of the list has to be Mel Brooks's History of the World, Part I, from 1981. There's the sex comedies, like the Porky's and Nerds series, or The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. There's also Tootsie and Victor/Victoria, both about crossdressing. Those last three are all from 1982, as is the legendary Fast Times at Ridgemont High. And lastly there's the anti-institutional/'slob vs snob' comedies. Police Academy is a great example, but there's more and better. 1980 was a boom year for this subcategory, giving us 9 to 5, The Blues Brothers, Stir Crazy, and Caddyshack. 1981 gave us Stripes, of which Police Academy is clearly derivative.
1982 gave us Night Shift, and 1983 gave us Trading Places and Doctor Detroit.
