Recently finished playing all the half life games for the first time. And I swear my reaction to that ending in hl2 episode 2 was just.... like just seeing *that*, then fade to black and seeing the credits start to roll knowing full well that there isn't an episode 3 was just...

Its their platform. they can structure it however they want, they aren't censoring any other sellers by making a special event for their own products, and its not like they would be "controlling the flow of information" like twitter fb, etc do when they abuse their power and censor completely true information.
I can imagine Steam displaying a message like "A fatal error has ocurred and Steam needs to restart" and when everyone resets Steam they are faced with the HL³ trailer, that would be epic.

I want to see the trailer in e3 kinda going like this. The trailer would be the last to be shown. Shows a vague intro kinda like how halo infinite did in it's first teaser but with speeches. after like a minute of showing those, it'll fade to black. either these words came out: *Ding* Welcome to the H.E.V mark 5 protective system. or Gman: Doctor freeman... And a large lambda symbol slowly appears, at the bottom side of the symbol is the number 3.
I’d say the HEV would have been upgraded from last time since we saw how roughed up it was based on the Half-Life Alyx model, so might end up being Mark 6 at that point.
With Half-Life Alyx's ending, we might be expecting Valve to put a big "3" somewhere really soon. I dare say that the Half-Life 3 is being created right now, because of Valve's recent activity - it all points toward us getting the sequel we all dreamed of for years.
HL3 Was in development so much times, but they couldn't make something that will follow the story and will bring something new into the industry. HL:Alyx remade story and now we just need to wait until they find something that they could use to make a new game.

Given the length of time passed since Half-Life 2 EP 2, I would like Valve to make Half-Life 3 at least 'seven' times longer than Half-Life 2. I also want them to make the environment a destructible environment with ultra realistic physics. Perhaps greater than what Crytek achieved with their Crysis game. I also want to explore City 14 and many other locations. So, I want it to be linear with open-world atmosphere. That being said, Half-life 2 was a revolutionary physics/graphical achievement of it's time. Like Valve, Crytek did the same when they released Crysis. Then "But can it run Crysis?" soon became a snarky catchphrase lamenting how difficult it was to find a machine that could, in fact, run Crysis. Aah! I still remember to this day and feel nostalgic! I know that Valve can go beyond our expectations and deliver a masterpiece once more like how they did in 2003: Presents the best single-player FPS game ever made with a revolutionary physics engine at E3 2003 tech demo and opened the mind of the audience after addressing someone in the audience who jokingly states "will this work on my 486?" 2019: Presents the best single player FPS VR game ever made with a revolutionary VR technology coupled with a modern physics engine. 20**: Will present a masterpiece, if and when that time comes round again...................................

They absolutely nailed Alyx. But I recently watched the NoClip docs on Arcane's 'Ravenholm' game which was cancelled...and well, it wasn't mind blowing. Arcane definitely nailed the HL tone, and the electricity mechanic was cool, but I'm not sure it was inspired. I know it was early alpha, but even still. Maybe the reason it was cancelled. I have full confidence they could do an incredible job if they took their time, allowed for a truly inspired script, and updated Source to complete with current tech.
Gotta love and hate the fact that Half-Life 3 is such a legendary and anticipated project, that was actually tried thoughout the years, that Valve actually is scared of trying to make it real due to pressure and hype they would produce by even creating a game with 3 in the name
i think at this point half life 3 is only going to happen once gabens brain interface tech is a consumer friendly affordable product and hl3 will essentially be their tech demo for what it can do. it seems valve cant be bothered making games any more unless something inspires them. making hl3 now would just be a regular video game with nothing unique about it. they made alyx to show off vr. i think hl3s only chance of existing is once the brain interface headset they are working on come out. and they dont seem to be that far off, but at the same time it'll be like the "were working on 3 vr games" they said when they released the htc vive. it took until the index came out for them qto actually finish alex. so hl3 development might start once the brain itnerface hardware is on sale

I do like the separate trailers for Portal 3 and HL 3. I'd thought about both games being companions to each other. A combined trailer would be nice. Something like the G Man walking through Aperture to GladOS and telling her there is a situation, or the G Man addressing a refugee Chell saying what we need from Aperture and how you're the one to get it. It's unfortunate we'll never see the game where GladOS runs the portal tech through the Borealis to portal Freeman to the (wherever the Combine etc) came from to nuke them all, then portals all of their faction on earth straight to the incinerators, but it would be fun to end both franchises like that.
If we consider that valve worked so many years on half life alyx it would mean we are one step closer to half life 3 (that or valve is still searching to this day a way to make hl3 more innovative than hl2)

In the beginning of Half Life 3, Gordon has to abandon his HEV suit because back before the events of Half Life 2, the combine got to it first and put a tracker in it as the return of freeman had been foreseen by the combine after the destruction of the nihilinth. The tracker was a DNA tracker, it would fingerprint Gordon's DNA in the suit and match it to someone on earth. When implanted, the combine found no success in tracking him. The entire authoritarian anti-resistance thing was purely designed to find amd capture Gordon Freeman. 10 years of no luck. But when he entered the train, a sensor lit up and Overwatch were warned of his presence. This is how the combine found Black Mesa East shortly after Gordon arrived. This is why the combine were sweeping across the bridge to White Forest to find gordon an alyx. This is how the combine found the White Forest research facility shortly after gordon and alyx arrived. The suit was the biggest betrayer in the entire series. Oh yeah I forgot, spoiler for HL3 but it's too late now.
If Valve ever release HL3 on their own I'm pretty sure it would need subtitles (and bloody big subtitles at that), because by then most of the original fans will be half blind, probably deaf, and too demented to remember how many decades it's been since they retired ! :D Our best hope of HL3 ever happening would be if valve worked out a deal to get the "Crowbar collective" or the "HECU Collective" to make it for them, then handed them all the plans, storyline, any code they'd already wrote for it, secured as many of the original voice actors as they could get for them, gave them a suitably sized wad of cash to be going on with, then left them to get on with it for several years (100% unhampered by any of Valves corporate interference). Both collectives have proven they REALLY know their way around the source 2 engine, the Crowbar collective showed amazing game design talent when they (Almost) completely changed the Xen portion of Black Mesa, and that games reception has proven that there's still a solid fan base eagerly waiting for more HL games, so I couldn't see valve losing money on the deal, and as an added plus point, Gabe Newell would finally have something positive to say when fans bombard him with "When are we gonna get HL3?" Type questions (I'm pretty sure the gaming media storm created by news of HL3 FINALLY being in full development would give Valve AND Steam's stock prices a noticeable boost too). :D
It's all we want. I'm grateful for Half Life: Alyx and the return into this 10/10 universe and by looking at the ending it's to assume we'll get another VR game, but I just miss the good ole click and shoot Half Life.
I know that the Combine probably Found the old original GLaDOS from portal 1 just withering away slowly in front of the Aperture Science Facility. The Combine will probably use that old GLaDOS against Gordan And Alyx in Half Life 3. :)
