Wind River Hike Gone Wrong | Man Trapped Under a Boulder

  • My Christmas gift to you all, a surprise video! A video fitting for the day. Mike Turner, 48, is an ardent outdoorsman and a pastor. Turner planned a 60-mile solo hike in the remote Fitzpatrick Wilderness in the Wind River Range. He chose solitude, believing it would allow him to move at his own pace, capture moments with his camera, and commune with God in peaceful seclusion. During his trek, Turner stepped onto a large boulder that shifted treacherously beneath him. Reacting swiftly, he leaped forward, landing on another boulder at an awkward angle. In a harrowing moment, the shifting rocks closed in, trapping him between them, and crushing his legs with excruciating force. As the chaos of the rockslide subsided, a haunting silence enveloped Mike. Stunned and gasping for breath amid dust and fear, he assessed his situation, finding his legs trapped but miraculously unbroken. This ordeal will bring Turner to the brink, testing his faith in the process.

I hope his faith encourages others to faith in Jesus Christ. His momentary infliction is surpassed by his joy in heaven. He will one day be reunited with his family and maybe even his dog!

I agree. A lie is a knowing and deliberate untruth calculated to mislead, avoid, or evade negative consequences which might otherwise attach to the liar. It is an act of deceit and moral cowardice. Sometimes people make statements about their intentions and then say something later which appears to contradict their initial statements. How about instead of saying he lied just say that he changed his mind, and on second thought decided to do something different? Sheesh. 🙄 Here's a guy wanting to provide something additional of further interest or entertainment value and you call him a liar? That's a dark and cynical world you're living in. Why are you watching and commenting on the video of a liar, anyway?

This story reminds everyone that regardless of if one is hiking or driving down the road. Always be prepared because anything can change. Mike Turner left a message that many fail to heed, through his death a stark reminder to be prepared. To have faith in God regardless of the outcome for God it is on his time not ours. Mike Turner passed away totally accepting his fate. Amongst the wilderness conversing with God and at peace, watching God stretch his hand out for Mike to come home. Mike accepted God's hand and he now rides the waves of the wilderness in spirit form. Prayers to his family and friends may God give you all the strength and peace you may need forever. This video is befitting for today is Christmas Day the day that Jesus was born. Thank you for this video and Merry Christmas stay safe, warm/cool, and blessings.

💓🐕💓Our most trusty and faithful companions.
A few yrs. ago (in the UK) a rabbit hunter took his trusty terrier along w/him while he hunted for rabbits. He tied his dog to a neighboring tree while he poked his head down a rabbit hole and couldn't dislodge himself from the hole.
The following day, a woman taking a walk, came across his body, only his torso, legs and one arm, which extended out from between his legs visible. He'd succumbed to asphyxia. I am sure he would have been grateful that his dog was rescued from suffering a slow and agonizing demise himself, tethered to a tree. May both these poor men RIP.🌹❤

Unlike so many other outdoor disaster narratives, this one struck me most by its lack of numbskull decision-making or poor preparation. Mike was hiking well within his experience level, seemed to be properly equipped and apparently making sound decisions along the way. Just goes to show no one can avoid risks altogether when venturing afield. One can only try to minimize them. The rewards for taking on these risks are incalculable, however. As someone who doesn't adhere to any religious beliefs, I can only hope that if I ever found myself in a similar situation, I could at least take some measure of solace in knowing that my end was going to happen in such an incredibly beautiful location.

    • @SilentThundersnow
      @SilentThundersnow 5 месяцев назад +5

Except for hiking alone. Which is his biggest mistake.
Taking his dog on such a long hike was cruel to the dog. He doesn't have shoes on the rugged terrain. He's not a wolf.
Then he went off the trail so he couldn't be found. And there's more chance of bad things happening off trail.
And if you are going to go alone, maybe take a flare or something.
But lastly, his words show a common mistake in his beliefs about God. People of faith attribute all kinds of things to being from God. They delude themselves into believing nothing too bad can happen that they can't pray to God to rescue them from.
We know he thought this, because he felt so angry and abandoned.
The truth is, God doesn't rescue people, he doesn't answer prayers. Physics answers prayers.

He went hiking alone. That to me is the number one no-no. So many of these stories are about people who went out hiking, or climbing, or sailing, or whatever, alone. Some don't even tell people where they're going. It's ridiculous. A buddy (with opposable thumbs, although I'm sure Andy was a very good boy), could have made all the difference in this situation.

A lot of ppl are talking about how this guy was really prepared and hiking "within his skill level"- but I beg to differ. Any experienced hiker would've looked at that boulder field and been like "nope". It's on too much of a slope, the boulders are too loose, and they're plenty large enough to trap a leg. He should've found a way around it- and if he was truly forced into it- then you proceed unreliably cautiously and slowly- otherwise, well- you see what happens. You have to slowly put your weight into each step and see if the rock tilts or moves- if it does- stop- find a different place to step. Also- there's no way I'm hiking into an area like this, where I can't make a call and I have no satellite phone, by myself. I did it when I was younger and didn't even think about it- but since turning 50 there's no way- there's too much of a chance that something goes wrong. I can no longer trust that I won't fall or twist and ankle or whatever. My balance and reflexes aren't at all like they used to be.

Hiked, back-packed, built trails for the Forest Service and did Master' Degree research the length and width of the Wind River Range, often w/o companions, but never alone. From Marten Creek, 3Forks Park and Old Squaretop, to Nancy, Barbara and Sequoia Lakes, to Boulder Creek and Lake Ethel, to Big Sandy Opening, Black Joe Lake and Temple Peak, to Packsaddle Lake and to Whiskey Basin, I loved that special place of wilderness as sacred! There, but for the turn of a rock, go I; fortunate beyond understanding, and sorrowful for the pain and loss of Mike Turner and his family!!

I *profoundly* appreciate any man of faith who knows to never work on faith alone and knows when they have got themselves into a situation and that God is not a genie who will save everyone.
It's *utterly* *offensive* when you've done everything right & hear testimonies of other Christians who have miracles of graduating without college debt or being saved medically while other Christians *_aren't_* saved from those perils.
Literally, faith is not more about the outcome of a situation, but _why_ you believe and what your faith does for you. You can serve a god without him giving you what you want, it's more so coming to terms with *_why_* god didn't answer your prayers.
It's *_vital_* to realize that a lot of the time it's our own short-sightedness, selfishness, desires, or hate that blocks us from our desired goal.
I'm never one to advocate for faith, especially as people get older, but it's good to know when we've messed up versus when God messes up.

God is fiction. It’s quite depressing and delusional how many people just blindly believe that there is a guy on a cloud with flowing white hair and robes. Grow up and give credit to real REAL things that are happening. Living in reality no matter how bad or good life is is always better then wishing on an ancient fairy tale with ZERO proof. Why go to the doctor? Just pray your electric bill is paid and tithe more to the church.

The region between Knife Point Snow Field, east as far as the Reservation and Alpine Lake, is subject to seismic activity which sends car-sized boulders crashing down, from every side. Our faith goes beyond the bounds of this wilderness, for in yet a little while, for those who believe, tears will turn to joy, and defeats absorbed by the victory of the One born in that manger so long ago and far away on that first Christmas day,
