I ordered the starter kit. Can't wait to try it out. I also ordered her book, "Colored Pencil Painting Bible" and that is going to be a great reference tool. It's amazing.
Thank you so much Lisa!! :D I started out with pastels and love how fast and smooth they blend out. Unfortunately, they are messy and not for traveling. This looks very interesting- it will be worth to try out!
Lisa thank you! I asked you about this a few weeks ago, you are one of the most talented cp artists I know, and knew you would be the best to review this.
So amazing how much work you put into your videos! The quality of them are done so well! Thanks for all you time & effort in helping the art community Lisa! You're doing an amazing JOB!!!
The texture fixative seems cool but I'm not sure if I could be less interested in the powder blender stuff. I'm curious, does the fixative let you layer even over burnished portions of a piece? And does it let you blend using thinner over it?
+Unmask Art I believe the answer would be yet to both of those since she said she spray it like a starting with a fresh piece of paper (or something of the like) and said that the fixative is unaffected by solvents.
Too cool Lisa! I just became a patreon supporter too so I'll watch the longer vid soon. I would imagine it could be a cool experiment to use a colored gesso as well to get a different tonal layer under your pencil layers.
Color me impressed, haha. This is incredible! I'm especially loving that white colored pencil. I'm really interested in seeing you do larger more serious pieces with this stuff :) Best of luck experimenting! :D
I'm sold. I do a lot of pet portraits, and like you mentioned, drawing in whiskers and white fur detail is a pain. I'm gonna pick this up as soon as I can, can't wait to try the texture spray.
I'm so excited for you. can't wait to see what you produce with this new medium. I'll be ordering some myself. thanks so much for you enthusiasm of the new product
Amazing product...AND drawing!! I'm excited to try this! I feel the same about (chalk) pastels... I! Can't! Touch! Them!!!! I even gave the Pan Pastels a try... Nope! I like to be free of fear when working with art materials! Loll! Thanks Lisa for another exciting product review... Actually I hate these! Now I gotta get it! Lauri
Love the video as always. I bought some of the blender powder after watching this. I want to see if the pan pastel blending pads will work with it before buying anything extra for it. Lovely picture!!!
+William Hetrick I was thinking the same thing and they have the longer handled tools unlike the short "eyeshadow applicator" sponge Lisa was working with on this. Let us know how it goes.
So excited to see the video. I saw your "in progress" photos on Facebook and Instagram. It's always awesome to see the videos and finished product. It honestly looks like magic with how easy it is once you start applying the product to blend. Looks like it will definitely save your hands some time. :)
blimey you kept this drawing on the quiet Lisa! Don't remember seeing this on your facebook. Lovely work hopefully the kit works its way over to the UK :)
my birthday is on saterday and my hubby asked what I want. now I now what to tell him! I only have so much patience to complete a project...thanks ADD. this will help a ton! thanks for reviewing these products! I can't wait to see how your next project works.
+SunnysEyes Happy birthday! I'm pretty excited to try these on my next project too! I've got a few things to get done first though. The anticipation is killing me! lol
Hi Lisa! LOL - I am sure Brush and Pencil LOVES you! I ordered the set - cannot wait to get it! You sold me on Polychromos too! :) I am actually ditching clothes so I can make sure to bring my colored pencils on vacation! Thanks so much for all you do!
Thank you Lisa, i was using it wrong too, so now i am looking forward to try it again. The only problèm i have is the can of fixative broke alter a caple Time using it. 🙁
You are a such wealth of information. So happy I found your RUclips channel....thank you again. Hoping Canada will get this product soon. I'm going to check out my local art supplier. Your the best!
Lisa - A very good & informative video. Takes some of the guesswork out of using the powdered blender, [which I've already bought, along with the textured fixatives, etc]. Question: "Will you be doing any videos on using the blender powder, etc along with using your mineral spirits, on a drawing, anytime soon?" I would be most interested in seeing how & when you use the blender or mineral spirits techniques / mediums in the same drawing. ~SKETCHCAT
+Sketchrcat I will once I get the hang of the powder blender more. I don't want to jump into mixing the two until I get a real feel how each work individually.
+Lachri Fine Art no problem but it's true though I was also wondering weather it was worth sending in one of my drawings but there not the best I'm only a 13 year old it's just because I'd like some professing tips
Hi Lisa, I am not sure I understand the need for the powder blender, especially on sanded paper. I purchased some but did not receive a blending tool with it, I guess I needed to purchase the kit from Brush and Pencil. I am working on quite a large piece and following your instruction I laid down the first layer of background pencil and then using a wide flat brush, added the powder blender. To my horror most of the pencil I put down came off, it was as dusty as pastels. I added more color then just used my finger to rub the color into the paper and smooth it out. This also made a mess but it was far less than with the powder blender. I watch your videos, particularly the portrait of the girl with flowers and you seem to get great coverage on your background with very little mess. Any ideas as to what I am doing wrong?
Hi Lisa, this stuff looks awesome, you are right to be excited! I am trying to get one of the major Canadian supply stores to take a serious look, Curry's Artist Supplies, okay if I share your tutorial with them? I know it is not available in Canada yet, but it should be!
Wow hope this becomes available in the uk soon! What about a beauty blender? Would that give you more coverage? People usually use them for foundation, but it's basically just a sponge and I'm sure it would work.
Girl I agree with you on this powder blender... I don't like messy medias either. THIS might be a great idea for me, "color pencils & powder blender". 🤔
I love that you don't like the feel of pastels--I too have always avoided them. Nice to know there is someone else that feels that way.Thank you for all your videos--a great help I many ways. I wasn't certain if you sprayed the texture fixative before you drew your basic shapes or did you draw them before?
Hi Lisa, I love your videos and have learnt a lot from them. I am about to start using pencil and brush products and I am looking forward to that. However a big problem is that i have invested heavily in drawing paper like Clairefontaine Pastelmat, and Strathmore drawing paper. Are these B&P products compatible with these papers? Is there any way that they can be treated so that they can be use, I think I read somewhere that clear acrylic gesso can be use to add tooth to certain papers?
Hi Lisa, I'm so excited about this product. I am working on a dog from a very bad picture. Now that I'm seeing other pictures of her I see that the dog has a lot of blonde in it. My picture is mostly whites and greys. If I finish how I am working on it, can the fixative help me to be able add these different colors? I want my client to be happy since she recently lost this dog. I just wish she'd given me a better picture work with. Please help. I need advise before continuing on. Thank you. Pat Bos
Love your channel! Just found this totally unique technique. I'm a little confused as to when and where you stopped to spray. How often did you actually spray?? Thanks so much!!
I'm a mere hobby colorist, but may I say how relieving it is that a professional artist like yourself also finds doing skies tedious? I swear, the next time I have a sky, I may print the line art with the sky already light blue. Since I'm just coloring for my own amusement, I can do this. ;-D
Alright so I just purchased uart 400 grade sanded paper, oderless paint thinner, and powder blender but I only have caran d'ache luminance colored pencils, would I still get that airbrushed stroke free look with these wax based colored pencils?
Lisa, thank you for all of your medium critiques. I am wondering since you have to prime the work surface first, and in the end you don't necessarily need to cover the art with glass, can you use fine art wooden boards and panels, such as Ampersand? Thanks!
+Wildlife Painter I think you could if they still had enough tooth. The wood ones that you can gesso yourself are the ones I'm thinking would be best. I've not tried it yet so I don't know for sure. Something for me to test :D I tried a gessoboard and it was WAY too smooth.
Hi Lisa, I know this video is kinda old. I was curious as time has gone by, if you find this method better or rather more enjoyable than using oms. Are you investing more in polychromos now, inc. White & Cream (2 colors that I would have to invest in for extra - pending I like the method of brush blender, tex. Fix, ect.). Thanks in advance
i bet you could use makeup sponges, and eyeshadow sponges (like the cheap ones that come in drugstore eyeshadow pallets). i have often thought of using eyeshadows, loose and pressed! is that weird? thank you for the great videos!
I hope so too! The white pencils I typically use are the Luminance white (natural wood casing), the Derwent Drawing Chinese white (reddish/brown casing) or the Polychromos (white casing).
What if you try blending with a make up applicator? (the tiny ones that usually comes with with eyeshadows) Seems like a similar texture. Great job by the way!
Thank you so much for all the info. I bought the powder a while ago and have not used it yet. I did not know it came as a kit... Can you just use the powder to blend? I lowered the speed of the video and your voice is slower. You are very bright and speak so fast, that sometimes I forget to breathe lol. I really enjoyed this video.
Ok so what is the powder made of that???? Im just curious what allows the powder to create movement with the colors like a gamsol/thinner does???? Its even better looking then using gamsol/thinner......It looks almost liquid when your doing it????
What sorcery is this!? I am just a wee bit confused about the white pencil. Does it show up because of the powder blender, or is this a different kind of white colored pencil altogether?
+Lachri Fine Art This video helped me a lot, thank you (: I love your art work and your tutorials, I think without your channel I wouldn't have got to the level where I am now. Within watching all of your videos I can see how my drawing skills are improving every day. Lovely greets from germany (:
So you mentioned not liking working with pastels because of the texture and mess, and I was curious if you have ever tried pan pastels? I haven't put out the money to try them yet, but I heard they were more fun to work with than regular pastels
In 2014 a fantastic book came out called The New Colored Pencil by Kristy Ann Kutch. She describes and recommends (among a great deal of other grounds/surfaces for colored pencil) a long list of sanded papers for colored pencil use. And yes, the coverage as far as being able to layer and layer and layer is fantastic! It's about continually trying different new and different products and working outside your comfort zone or as some say out of the box. What's a bit ironic is that you seem to pride yourself of trying new things...but these sanded papers have been out for decades used by pastel artists...and their use with colored pencil has been known by professional colored pencil artists for years. Welcome to the party! : )
Lisa, is suede mat board considered a nonporous surface? Also, I'm a little confused regarding when you actually applied the textured spray. Did you spray before starting on the bird or not until later - or was the bird done with a layer of the powdered blending powder like the background? Did you spray the entire piece with the textured spray or just small areas you wanted to re-work? I bought this kit a few weeks ago, but haven't had a chance to try it yet. Looks like lots of fun
+Kathy McDaniel I don't think the suede mat board would work. I only sprayed the texture spray once on this, after I had pretty much finished everything but wanted to add additional layers at the end. I sprayed the entire piece when I did. If I needed texture on a small area, the small bottle of touch up fixative would have worked :D
+Lachri Fine Art I started a new drawing yesterday on suede mat board and used the powder blender on the background. It 'seemed' to work, but I wasn't really sure if it was a characteristic of the mat board (the blending) or the powder. Also couldn't really tell from your video or Alyona's whether I was using enough powder.
Try makeup sponges, they are much easier to use and provide really good results and they are really cheap. Having said that . . . where can I get this product it looks perfect for me!!
This looks awesome! Could you use colored pencil normally then spray the texture fixative or use the touch up texture by itself over it then use white colored pencil on top or would you have to go through all the steps you showed us? Also, have you tried blending with those triangular makeup sponges, or beauty blenders? The little sponge they gave you looks like an eye shadow brush. Those beauty blenders look like bigger versions of eye shadow brushes.
+Lachri Fine Art thank you......but....oh my! I went to order the kit and another$17.12 was added for tax and shipping! Really too bad because I thought I'd give it a try. :( I'm glad to hear they are working on getting it out to the stores. Sadly, I'll wait.
I'm kind of confused, how does a powder soak into paper? And what is sanded paper? You can also get sponge applicators made for make up with longer handles, might be a cheap alternative. Or you can get sponge applicators that go with pan pastels and I believe those have replaceable sponges and some even have a handle kind of like and offset spatula so it might be more comfortable to hold.
+brikhouse22 I can't explain how it soaks in...but it does. It absolutely does not work on regular cotton paper. The makeup sponges may work. I've not tried them yet :) I do have the ones for pan pastels that I totally forgot about while I was working on this project. I will use them next time for sure! :D
Really interested in the Luminance white. Does it work well on top of Prismacolors or wax based pencils ? I know the exact frustration you talk of when you mention leaving gaps for white. I have grey paper so I'm in even worse shape !! Hoping the Luminance white is the fix !! Love your vids and your work BTW. Very informative
Lisa, what kind of gesso did you use? White or clear? Which brand? I'm asking because theres a huge difference in grit between clear and white, specially by Liquitex. The clear is substantially rougher than the white. And isn't there a chance of the gesso clogging the airbrush? Thanks for showing this product. I never heard about it and now I'm super excited about it! I ordered the kit, can't wait to get it :)
I'm very confused. I watched your video and you state that you painted your paper with thinned gesso, which I get, but then you later state you used the texture fixative. So when was the texture fixative added on and when was the texture fixative added for the 70 layers? Was it between layers?
+Hyogail It depends on how smooth. I tried super smooth gesso board and that was a massive nope. I think if I gesso a board myself though that it might work. I've not tried it on canvas board yet. Because this is not flexible I am guessing working on regular stretched canvas that moves would not be ideal. A canvas board might work though. I plan to gesso a watercolor canvas board to try out :)
+Lachri Fine Art brilliant, it certainly seems like it will need a lot of trial and error to see which surfaces suit the technique best. Drawing on board would be a lot easier than having to gesso watercolour paper in my opinion anyway, it cuts out the messy parts! Here's hoping it works well on board :)
Hello, Lisa I just purchased this Blending Powder. You mentioned that all texture sprays are acrylic base or someone did in the now 40+ videos I have watched since I ordered the supplies. My question is can the SpectraFix Fixative work for this it is claimed to be all natural formula or is that brand even worth purchasing to try if you have any experience with it, or is another Fixative available by now I can use? I waited so long before I received the materials thanks to shipping blunders I am now once bitten twice shy about ordering from Brush and Pencil through Blicks, and Amazon, they both lost my orders and could not track the locations 1 for 4 days the other for 5 days BUT they received payment ever so promptly and so politely asked me to give them the time required to locate my orders before issuing my refunds. Do I absolutely need to Gesso my paper or can I use Canson watercolor paper, The lot I purchased well it has this surface that droplets of water bead up for a short time before soaking in? I was just so eager to try and use this product after I watched your hands perform such lovely miracles on this project, but do not recall you stating in projects since after if other papers or materials can be used or omitted altogether. I was unaware at the time of purchase that I ABSOLUTELY MUST use the texture spray from Brush and Pencil and Gesso, sadly I am one of those people who dive in head first off a cliff into a lake, hit the bolder that all before missed, just below the surface, than ask questions why was I not told about this before I jumped...lol. You truly are so very gifted I try to watch all your live broadcasts and repeatedly go to the patron site of yours. I find what you claim in videos to be as close to 100% correct as anyone can be I trust you implicitly.
Your artwork is so great! My english isn't that well and I wasn't really able to figure out what kind of paper you used for the final drawing of the bird :/ You mentioned something about Stonehenge but I guess that was for the first drawing?
Ok. I skimmed through the comments, and seems no-one suggested the blending tools for pentel pens. The recommended makeup sponges esp. the white dollar store kind are a little soft to work with, but the sponge tool set for pentel pans are made to smooth out chalky powders. They come as little sleeves for pointy spatulas and in different shapes in the kind of the make up sponge variety but a little stiffer. They should give you the control for larger areas and the precision to approach the edges of your foreground.
Where do you buy the paper? Cause I bought some Fabriano artistico hot press off amazon but it's way too expensive and I think there not in stock anymore.
Hi I've just bought the powder blender. Using it on Mi Teintes Touch... It blend the colors - but it also REMOVES A LOT of color...... do you have an idea, what the problem could be? I'm SO sad.... :'(
I was thinking the same thing. I was scrolling the comments and wondered if someone would pick up on that. They have different sizes too. I am ordering this soon!
"I don't get out much", Haha, IK, I practically could hear it: "alright, who let Lisa out of the studio". Lisa, send us a sign and we'll send help to release you from your captors. Great demo, if that was just "practice", wow, can't wait to see what you can do when you're experienced with these. Thanks for posting.
i watched this, i listenned and all but i stil don't understand at all what powder blender is and where do you put it ? and how ? i'm just confused. i don't see you putting anything else besides colored pencil
looks magical Lisa!
+thefrugalcrafter Lindsay Weirich Magic is a good word for this stuff haha
Oooooh. Getting the pastel look without pastels! Nice. : ) Thank you for sharing this, Lisa!
that is literally the most beautiful work I've ever seen

Here, in the Middle East, we hardly get stuff!! Still living the Cave Era!
I ordered the starter kit. Can't wait to try it out. I also ordered her book, "Colored Pencil Painting Bible" and that is going to be a great reference tool. It's amazing.
+Sandra “Makeuplvr69” Martin Have fun with your new supplies!! :D
Thank you so much Lisa!! :D
I started out with pastels and love how fast and smooth they blend out. Unfortunately, they are messy and not for traveling.
This looks very interesting- it will be worth to try out!
The one that you said didn't work on the absorbent paper is still quite beautiful. I love the texture in the in the grey sky. Great video. Thanks.
Lisa thank you! I asked you about this a few weeks ago, you are one of the most talented cp artists I know, and knew you would be the best to review this.
+Adam Wallen Thanks :D
Bought powder blender the next day from Brush and Pencil.com the next day after your demo. Can't wait!
Thanks Lachri Fine Art for this amazing review and demo, you made my fingers itch to get this Powder :D!

Can you use the fixative in just an ordinary coloring book, without the blender and stuff?
Hi, I've just watched this video and was wondering how you put your gesso on with any brush marks and make it look smooth?
Do you spray texture fixative after every layer of color pencil
I didn't here, but I've found that it works best when you do.
Could one use a piece of foam rubber or a small foam paint brush to blend it out?
what brand is that white pencil that you were using towards the end with the lilac body?
Hi Lisa. Hope we can get this in Australia soon! Am interested in your white pencil used here? Where did you get it and what make is it?
I hope so too! The white pencils I typically use are the Luminance white (natural wood casing), the Derwent Drawing Chinese white (reddish/brown casing) or the Polychromos (white casing).
What if you try blending with a make up applicator? (the tiny ones that usually comes with with eyeshadows) Seems like a similar texture. Great job by the way!
+María Eugenia Robledo I think it would be similar. I actually want to try with some of the larger pastel blenders :D
Does it leave a ton of dust, like pastels? That you need to vacuum up?
Do you think that the Derwent color soft will be more blendable with this new media?
+Enkado No, because it's not only wax based, but has a LOT of wax in the lead. The oil based pencils work better for this :)
you are awesome!!I love your work!
+Zisis Mesi Thanks :D
+Lachri Fine Art I want to be like you that's why I am looking your videos. You are so great
Does the texture fixative work with wax based pencil and paint thinner?
I really love your tutorials. Thanks for posting them. What brand of sanded paper do you use? Thanks.
I like fisher400 and uArt 500 :)
Finally managed to get hold of the powder in the UK, just waiting for it to be delivered! :)
what kind of paper are you using for this blender? I know you said sanded or gessoed paper but not sure what that means...
Hey Lisa,
do you also have a tutorial how you get your outlines so accurate (: ?
Would love to learn this.
+Elfee I've got some tips here ruclips.net/video/FlARnhNqD1Y/видео.html
+Lachri Fine Art
This video helped me a lot, thank you (:
I love your art work and your tutorials, I think without your channel I wouldn't have got to the level where I am now. Within watching all of your videos I can see how my drawing skills are improving every day.
Lovely greets from germany (:
Wow, this is so exciting!! I can't wait to try this stuff...thanks a bunch for sharing :D
So you mentioned not liking working with pastels because of the texture and mess, and I was curious if you have ever tried pan pastels? I haven't put out the money to try them yet, but I heard they were more fun to work with than regular pastels
I have, they still aren't my personal favorite. I love the look other artist's get with them though! They produce amazing art!
Please can you suggest another product as well as I am unable to get this product shipped to my location. Thanks
Having said that . . . where can I get this product it looks perfect for me!!
will that fixative work on pan pastels?
This looks awesome! Could you use colored pencil normally then spray the texture fixative or use the touch up texture by itself over it then use white colored pencil on top or would you have to go through all the steps you showed us?
Also, have you tried blending with those triangular makeup sponges, or beauty blenders? The little sponge they gave you looks like an eye shadow brush. Those beauty blenders look like bigger versions of eye shadow brushes.
Interesting....so do you have to use the texture for the powder to work or can the powder alone be purchased and used?
+Linda Phillabaum The powder can be used alone, but then you're limited on how many layers you will be able to get.
+Jade Scarlett I used white :) Yep, it can clog the airbrush. This is why it was thinned with water. :D
+Lachri Fine Art Thanks Lisa 😃
where did the you get the refrance photo for this
A friend sent it to me :D
I'm very confused. I watched your video and you state that you painted your paper with thinned gesso, which I get, but then you later state you used the texture fixative. So when was the texture fixative added on and when was the texture fixative added for the 70 layers? Was it between layers?
Amazing piece!!! Can't wait till I can get the powder blender in Australia!!! :D
+Daniel Glover :D
I forgot to ask, would this kit make drawing straight on to smoothed gessoed board/canvas feasible? I am getting quite excited now! :D
+Lachri Fine Art would clear gesso work? it might be nifty to work over a watercolor wash or something like that.
+SunnysEyes Yep, it would work fine :) That's actually a great idea!!
My english isn't that well and I wasn't really able to figure out what kind of paper you used for the final drawing of the bird :/
You mentioned something about Stonehenge but I guess that was for the first drawing?

This stuff is amazing. A game changer!!!!! So getting this. Thanks for experimenting for us. xoxo
+MiMi Meems I'm working on another video with this now, I'm loving it more and more with each hour of use!
Hi
I've just bought the powder blender. Using it on Mi Teintes Touch... It blend the colors - but it also REMOVES A LOT of color...... do you have an idea, what the problem could be? I'm SO sad.... :'(
Can the Pan Pastel sponge applicators be used with the powder blender?
I was thinking the same thing. I was scrolling the comments and wondered if someone would pick up on that. They have different sizes too. I am ordering this soon!
+1991Shubhi I think they would be great!
I forgot to ask what white pencil were you using in this video.
Beautiful work as always! TFS
+KaBluey59 I'm on the 3rd floor...bring a ladder! haha
i watched this, i listenned and all but i stil don't understand at all what powder blender is and where do you put it ? and how ? i'm just confused. i don't see you putting anything else besides colored pencil
It's on the little sponge thing in my hand. It's clear so you don't really see it. :)
