It’s so nerdy, so academic and I love it so muchhhh!!! If only I’m able to be part of the brain storming team for ideas cause I like to see pageant from an academic perspective too hehe
I think the home country’s success rate at the international pageant has a lot to do with the specific standards of the pageant and how the local pageant is already looking for that exact mold. When you watch Miss Earth for example, everytime the Philippines won, their candidate was the undeniable winner based on performance. In fact if you look at the history of this pageant, there were times when the Filipina candidate could have easily won but had to settle for a runner-up position. Such is the case in 2009 when Sandra Seifert was the obvious winner but they had to give the crown to Brazil because the Philippines had just won the year before. It is also noteworthy to add that most Filipina Miss Earth winners didn’t do well in Binibining Pilipinas, (the local pageant that used to send winners to Miss Universe). Angelia Ong and Karen Ibasco both did not reach the semis when they competed at Binibini. Karla Henry did not even qualify as an official candidate during her Binibini attempt. Similarly Ariella Arida, who went on to place in the top 5 of Miss Universe, did not advance to the top 15 of Miss Earth Philippines. So I gues this really has to do with the specificity of the standards.
It’s not lost on me that whenever Philippines wins, you think the winners are OBVIOUS winners. The only thing that’s quite obvious here is your own country bias.
Philippines in Miss Earth deserves to win those titles, not just they are Philippines based pageants but we send candidates that is smart and prepared.
great video once again. regarding the Supranational fallout, the real culprit here are some die-hard Indonesian fans/Pageant admins who keep on trolling Andre at the eventual winner because their candidate unfortunately lost. im saying some because as Rico shows, there are lot of pageant loving Indonesians fans too. however these trolls are so vicious. im saying for every country as well who keeps on attacking the girls. it really is sad that pageantry has come to this.
Thanks Josel! I couldn’t agree with you more. It’s truly sad pageant fanaticism has gotten so toxic - we’re naturally going to support certain candidates, often depending on where we live, but it should t be at the expense of other people’s dignity. It doesn’t achieve anything! Thanks again - hope you’re well 🙂
Another awesome video! Everything is well-researched and your opinions, thoughts, and ideas are all impartial and objective. This is definitely one of my favorite channels! In this list, my top favorites are Miss Universe and Miss Earth because of their right balance of excitement, glamour, and substance. And these two pageants have an accounting firm that tabulates judges' scores which means there's fairness in the judging.
Thanks Garry! Always fab to read your comments and positive feedback. I try and be as objective as possible, so I’m glad that that comes through in the videos. Hope you’re well and keeping safe!
The only thing I hated is the toxicity of pageant fans. As a Miss Universe fan, it is sad to see them being filled with hate instead of love. Some just straight up hating and trolling with no reason and explanation at all. Miss Universe, for example, in the case of Steve Harvey, most of them hated him ONLY because of the Philippines-and-Colombia blunder and the jokes that followed, while ignoring his amazing hosting skills and the way he announced the countries in the semifinals that led to the majority of viewers like me praising it in social media. Another thing is the recent Miss International that was being livestreamed here, and I see one comment offending the Philippines' delegate after she's not being placed in the Top 8, calling the country "PigLi₱3n1$", and calling it a cooking show, thinking that the PH fans will just cry because of her. And this has being spammed like a million times, which is very unacceptable. These are just few of my real examples. This is why all of us hate toxic fans. They have no heart at all.
@@a.rkumar6227 so you like MGI more than ME because MGI is a Beauty Contest for Drag Queens and Aliens, where the contestants makes those funny animals sounds and silly acts which make them look like clowns and spinning like flying saucers or UFO's and screaming like barking dogs? And the director/management has no class by making stupid comments online and responding to bashers or critics and shamelessly claiming that they are in BIG 4 if not the top over MU ang MW? Ahahahaha. Truely a CLOWN SHOW with a CLOWN DIRECTOR. All I can say is, the Director of Miss Supranational was right by saying, "YOU CAN'T PUT A CROWN ON A CLOWN AND EXPECT A KING" 🤣😅😜
By the way, do you think swimsuit will be out of the pageant? Because I feel like there's a pressure in the pageants on removing it. But in my opinion, it's the swimsuit that started it all and become a tradition in pageants such as Miss Universe. Can you talk about this.
That’s an interesting one for sure, Kento! As pageants try and gain more credibility through the achievements of women vs. their physical appearance, the questions will grow louder, i.e. “what does it matter what a woman looks like in order for her to do good in the world?” Which I suppose is a valid question. Obviously things like self-confidence and physical fitness is important, and while I’ve been a Miss Universe devotee for some time, considering this issue in more detail in the past year or two has made me appreciate Miss World’s repositioning in this regard. It doesn’t necessarily make for thrilling TV like MU, but I can see the value in moving away from the fashion show elements and more to a “complete woman” approach. It really boils down to the basic question, “what’s the point of beauty pageants?” There are clearly a variety of answers to that question!
@@PageantNerd what’s the point of athletic competition? They entertain and pageants should do just that, entertain. Stop pretending to be something it’s not.
The Miss World pageant started with swimsuit as well. At this point, watching contestants compete onstage in a gown and swimsuit is no different watching an ice skater spinning on the ice or a pole vaulter flinging himself into the air. Athletes are not walking talking about starving children or babbling about advocacies other than the ones supported by their sponsors.
Sir Rafa, you’re here! I could imagine you and Pageant Nerd to be having coffee together and just talk about pageants. 😁 You are both experts - critical and objective in your analysis and reviews! A collab would be great. 😁🥰

MGI production is the best however quality of queens & advocacy after the coronation is still not that great. I'm already happy to see when miss universe & miss world bump in one event.
21:35 people thought Deborah was gonna place but she didn’t, controversy that she had a bad personality or something with her parents, or even just the sash Malaysia only placed in 1970
The difference between Miss World/ Miss Universe win rate at 15%/ 20% and Miss Earth at 20% is the difference of the decades. Far fewer countries competed in pageants in the 50s to 70s making the odds higher for home turf wins. Philippines success at Miss Earth came at a time when the pageant averaged over 80 contestants per year. Far greater that the average 60 that where competing at MW and MU by 1970.
Very good point - back in those days the competition was much weaker. It does bring into question how the same country can win a title so regularly these days.
@@PageantNerd I wouldn't say weaker just not as complex as they are today. Global representation was also lopsided with the majority of contestants being from Western Europe and The Americas to some extent.
@@DAN-lo7fz I guess Miss Earth is the only pageant that you could ask your kids school to watch and learn from when it comes to which one out there has the most sensible and useful empowering advocacy... The Environmental platform. The only pageant recognised by most countries government and Institutions. Just so you know.
@@RolandRamirezTV I don’t know what Miss Earth taught kids in schools about what they can do for the environment . But I do know Miss Earth organizers turned a blind eye and ear to contestants claiming they were sexually harassed by sponsors they were compelled to dine with. Until the contestants resigned from the pageant and spilled the beans in public on social media. Very educational indeed. Just so you know. And just because someone organizes Miss Science or Miss Cryptocurrency next doesn’t mean kids can learn science or cryptocurrency from a beauty pageant advocating science or cryptocurrency. Get real.
Yes, very true. I suppose the point I was making with Nigeria at MU 2019 was an American born and raised contestant winning a national title in their parents’ homeland
It's been that Owner Nation are privileged and almost always placed or placed becoz of popularity in that country,or Sash factor since that country had done amazing in past I think one of the reason that show is becoming boring is that same previous countries being placed and other countries without any above factor are underlooked
Like- USA won 8 MU crown and placed 66/70times Or, Philippines won 4 Miss Earth crown in just 4 years, Thailand and Poland always placed in their homegrown Paegent It's Unfair to other countries
@@finnandrei5745 ya, take for Example Coco the Miss MGI Thailand of.... I will have to study the other pageants, I've been following Miss Universe ever since Amelia Vega won, more recently been following MGI, Supra and MW. The latter I find very complex and not quite entertaining.
Correction: Stella Marquez de Araneta not Ayala. Yes she competed at Miss Universe 1960, she placed in Top 15. Then she represented Colombia in Miss International 1960 which she later won the crown.
Miss Universe For me is the best followed by Miss Earth and Miss International this 3 Big pageants makes me happy and exited with their each show....Miss Supra and Miss World its okay but this Miss grand international?????i dont know this pageant really.. the Big5 pageants like Miss universe Miss World Miss International Miss Earth Miss Supra
Great video as always. Thoughts? MGI- I get they're trying to be different but they do way too much. Thailand knows how to put on a show, but it's like they expect their candidates to be exaggerated versions of themselves. Supra-do I even have to? It's cheap and bland, they seem to be traditional beauty pageants but the girls who place don't even have great walks (the MU in me talking) Earth-never watched it International-never watched it but Japanese are known to be very respectable. Explains why the pageant is the way it is (according to this video) Universe-definitely the leader and most exciting. I just wish we'd see different countries (who are deserving) placing like other pageants and less of candidates placing just coz of sash factor 🙄 World-I don't watch it but I do enjoy following the past winners. It is a pretty boring show but they always crown great girls

I hope you’re keeping well and staying safe. Take care my friend! ☺️
There's only 1 crown that matters and that's always been Miss Universes. Miss World used to be a rival to Miss Universe but the format of the show is soo weird. The organisation is run by a bunch of out of touch boomers. Watching a Miss World show is so boring and uneventful. Miss Earth and Miss International are also boring and irrelevant IMO. I find Miss Grand entertaining as it focuses more on beauty and the competition element. I feel there is a place for Miss Grand, it's basically Miss Universe without any substance 😂a place where girls who failed at Miss Universe because of there lack of interview/communication skills will thrive lol. The over-the-top performances are soo bad they’re good 🤣 but I must admit I love watching Miss Grand. It's definitely entertaining but nothing is touching Miss Universe. Still the most entertaining and relevant beauty pageant with the most well rounded participants. Let's hope Kun Anne and JKN don't stuff it up 🙏🏾
Heya, thanks for your comment! Some controversial remarks in there depending on which pageants you follow, but I must admit I agree with pretty much everything you say. MU is No.1 for me - as you also say, hopefully it stays that way! I think you have a very similar perception of each pageant as I do!
In all of this 6 grandslam pageant the things that i dont like it, is almost every year always same countries in semifinalist and even to win.Why dont giving a chance to the others countries that had never been won and never been in semifinalist.Every representative had potential to win not only same countries

@@zosimodegala2234 Placements in previous pageants do not automatically translate into doing well in future pageants. True, previous experience and exposure does provide contestants with an advantage and certain edge (as recently seen with the top 3 at Miss Universe 2020), but the selection process is different in each pageant and it's up to to each contestant (and her team) to adapt appropriately to each one. Personally I have always rated very highly delegates that do well in both Miss World and Miss Universe. This certainly proves their consistency and drive.
To be fair, the Philippines has English as our other National Language. It is already taught in schools since Kindergarten. I am new fan of your content. It is interesting and factual. Congratulations
The truth is, admit it or not, there's really no Big 6 but rather Big 4. But since this is your channel and your vlog, you have the priviledge to make your own personal preference of calling these Big 6 since these 6 really are the most talked about pageants. Today, there are new divisions of these pageants, being newly branded by some pageant vloggers around the world themselves too. These are the Alpha pageants, comprising of the Big 4 namely (based on ranking) Miss Universe, (1952), Miss World (1951), Miss Earth (2001), and Miss International (1960 from the U.S., then in 1968 held since then until now by Japan). And the "Beta Pageants", comprising of the semi-major or fast rising pageants, or even pageants that have been around for a longer time. This includes (acc. to rank too) Miss Supranational (2009), Miss Grand International (2013), Miss Globe (originally founded and registered in 1975 by Charlie See, but started at 1988, then in 2014 now called The Miss Globe, by Deliart Org. based in Albania, which they now solely run), Miss Intercontenental (1971).
Would you PLEASE WATCH Ms World 1973, Marjorie Wallace from USA , dethroned, Ms Philippines 1st runner up. Seek your opinion why Philippines didn't get the crown. Injustice??
Miss Philippines was offered to do the duties of the winner without the title. She refused because she has already signed movie contracts and she cannot fulfill the duties anymore.
Wow, if Google “denies it” (not quite sure how that happens), I’d better stop mentioning it, along with the other pageant bloggers who also use it… Did you actually watch the videos when I explain why I used the term Big 6?? 🙄
@@sabesque6461 Production however is not equivalent to class and true cause. Supra and MGI shall slaughter one another as they both fall into same category. Miss Earth has environmental causes, MI is celebrating beauty and class, MW is beauty with the purpose, MU is Confidently beautiful which is women empowerment. MGI aims to unseat MU which is a prime beauty pageant for Beauty and showmanship. Sadly, a lot had moved on from that kind of pageant. And so does MU.
The only thing that’s quite obvious here is your own country bias.

great video once again. regarding the Supranational fallout, the real culprit here are some die-hard Indonesian fans/Pageant admins who keep on trolling Andre at the eventual winner because their candidate unfortunately lost. im saying some because as Rico shows, there are lot of pageant loving Indonesians fans too. however these trolls are so vicious. im saying for every country as well who keeps on attacking the girls. it really is sad that pageantry has come to this.
Thanks Josel! I couldn’t agree with you more. It’s truly sad pageant fanaticism has gotten so toxic - we’re naturally going to support certain candidates, often depending on where we live, but it should t be at the expense of other people’s dignity. It doesn’t achieve anything! Thanks again - hope you’re well 🙂
@@PageantNerd mabuhay to you! keep your fantastic videos coming!
They criticize Miss Earth's production. How about Miss International and Miss World. Too dull.
Miss World may have not crowned a lot of candidates from United Kingdom, but it has crowned a lot from former British colonies. Dig data on that!
I always love Miss Earth because it's advocacy but TBH they need to step up in their production .
True I'm a Filipino. ME is boring

@@judericarnoco6571 you're not a filipino. Please haters of Philippine Beauty Queens don't pretend to be Filipino.
@@PageantNerd 😍😍😍😍😍 .this what I want to answer someone
@@PageantNerd what’s the point of athletic competition? They entertain and pageants should do just that, entertain. Stop pretending to be something it’s not.
The Miss World pageant started with swimsuit as well. At this point, watching contestants compete onstage in a gown and swimsuit is no different watching an ice skater spinning on the ice or a pole vaulter flinging himself into the air. Athletes are not walking talking about starving children or babbling about advocacies other than the ones supported by their sponsors.
I love this! Amazing analysis! And great graphics, too!

miss intercontinental deserves more recognition than MGI. they have been in existense for decades aftr MU Mw.
MGI production is the best however quality of queens & advocacy after the coronation is still not that great.

21:35 people thought Deborah was gonna place but she didn’t, controversy that she had a bad personality or something with her parents, or even just the sash
Malaysia only placed in 1970
Zuleyka 😂 actress in despacito hahaha
Miss Earth makes me sick .
Aurore Kichenan not speaking English and not given a proper interpreter seemingly prevented her from placing higher, even winning, Miss World.
It's been that Owner Nation are privileged and almost always placed or placed becoz of popularity in that country,or Sash factor since that country had done amazing in past
I think one of the reason that show is becoming boring is that same previous countries being placed and other countries without any above factor are underlooked
Like- USA won 8 MU crown and placed 66/70times
Or, Philippines won 4 Miss Earth crown in just 4 years, Thailand and Poland always placed in their homegrown Paegent
It's Unfair to other countries

I will have to study the other pageants, I've been following Miss Universe ever since Amelia Vega won, more recently been following MGI, Supra and MW. The latter I find very complex and not quite entertaining.
Only Miss World and Miss Universe matters. No one cares about other pageants.
Miss earth is not a Grand Slam pageant. There are just grand slam pegeants: Miss Universe, Miss World and Miss International.

Miss Supra
Miss Supranational doesn't really magnify its real purpose.
Great video as always. Thoughts?
MGI- I get they're trying to be different but they do way too much. Thailand knows how to put on a show, but it's like they expect their candidates to be exaggerated versions of themselves.
Supra-do I even have to? It's cheap and bland, they seem to be traditional beauty pageants but the girls who place don't even have great walks (the MU in me talking)
Earth-never watched it
International-never watched it but Japanese are known to be very respectable. Explains why the pageant is the way it is (according to this video)
Universe-definitely the leader and most exciting. I just wish we'd see different countries (who are deserving) placing like other pageants and less of candidates placing just coz of sash factor 🙄
World-I don't watch it but I do enjoy following the past winners. It is a pretty boring show but they always crown great girls

I think MGI nawat got inspired while watching miss congeniality
Yes, you correct I saw in this year's Edition of Supra the top 2 on QnA was SA and Venezuela but crowned Namibia
True, previous experience and exposure does provide contestants with an advantage and certain edge (as recently seen with the top 3 at Miss Universe 2020), but the selection process is different in each pageant and it's up to to each contestant (and her team) to adapt appropriately to each one.
