Hot take - I feel like real SJM girlies are few and far between. Her series are so different, I don't know many non-influencers who genuinely like all 3. I'm a TOG fanatic, but struggled to get through ACOTAR and don't have plans to pick up Crescent City🙃
Imo SJM just just copy pastes her plots and characters. I read acotsr too and she truly just did the same plot for tog after book 5 than she did with the last of the acotar trilogy. Everything is the same! Even sentences are repeated (with a little rephrasing)! I was a fan of the first tog books but it turned into something I didn't enjoy. Though I haven't read crescent city, but it just feels too familiar. The main character is just a copy of Aelin with a sprinkle of Feyre. So...
So true. I haven’t read crescent city yet but I love ToG and have two books left in that series. Acotar gets better with each book but is overrated sooooo much imho ❤
I quite like acotar (as in the first one), but tbh the other two books in the trilogy are so boring and I don’t know if I can push myself to read a court of silver flames
I totally agree, I started with Acotar and completely loved it, so when I got to ToG I was dragging between books, because it felt to similar, and I don't intend to read Crescent City, at least for now
Agreed! This series is getting better as it goes on. like I hate cinder and I gave it 2 stars but I love Scarlet and Cress so freaking much. Obsessed with those two
Katie you have become one of my absolute favourite booktubers.🌸I absolutely love every single one of your videos and they bring me so much comfort. Watching this video was so much fun.💫
I totally get how you feel about once upon a broken heart! The first was a four star for me and the last two were five stars! I love Evangeline and Jacks so so much!
oh my god i really love throne of glass and kingdom of the wicked. tog would be on my top tier. i so am sjm girly. but it was so fun to see how you ranked them. other than that, i 90% agree with how you rank the others. would like you to this every year though. its nice to see a recommendation in a different way. i dont want this video to end honestly, it was so so fun!
If you liked heartless I would definitely recommend reading the lunar chronicles. I haven't read Heartless so I can't compare it but the lunar chronicles are retelling books that are super unique and they also have great characters!
wanted to thank you for all your videos, binging your content from the last 2 years kept me sane in my exam season!! our tastes are very different a lot of the time, my top tier would have: The Raven Cycle, Ghosts of the Shadow Market, Skulduggery Pleasant, The Mortal Instruments, Pandora Hearts, D.Gray-man; and my second tier: Daughter of Smoke and Bone, Carry On, The Emerald Atlas, The Dark Artifices, The Coldest Girl in Coldtown, Kuroshitsuji, Kaiju no.8; my lowest tier would have to include: Gallant, Half Life, Throne Of Glass, Children of Blood and Bone, Shades of Magic, Howl's Moving Castle (I really like the film but not the book), and controversially Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries, The Infernal Devices and The Last Hours (I'm currently reading Chain of Thorns, and it's the only one of the series I'm genuinely enjoying)
have been waiting for this kind of video! have my phone on hand so i can write down recs. you’re one of the few i can trust for book recs especially fantasy recs 💚
Katie, I have only read one Fantasy, "A Fate Inked in Blood" and absolutely loved it. This is the video I have been looking for to help me choose a series to read. Your tier ranking videos are my favorite!
Marissa Meyer is my guilty pleasure. I can’t help it I love every single one of her books. Especially the lunar chronicles which I am thinking of rereading.
I’m 46 years old and agree with this 100%! Loved Lunar Chronicles, Gilded, Instant Karma…I have to read Curse still and just finished Renegades. She’s an auto-buy author for me. Guilty pleasure.
we have vastly different taste (some of my favourite books of all time are in your meh category and some that I DNFed are in your all time favourites!) but I really enjoy hearing about what you love or don’t in a book! and I completely agree that Vicious by VE Schwab is one of the most excellent fantasies!
Prison Healer series is one of my all time favourite YA fantasy series. I don’t read that much YA anymore but I was obsessed with that series when I read it last year
Ohh tier ranking every fantasy series fun. The only books I would change would be Tress of the Emerald Sea and Vampire Academy to so fun! Six Crimson Cranes would be almost, but not quite.
Our reading tastes and thoughts are so similar! I saw so many people talk about A Study In Drowning with such positive reviews and I got totally suckered into the hype and it was just so meh for me. My favourite series are Veronica Speedwell, Villains & Virtues and The War of Lost Hearts! My absolute favourites!!!
As someone who LOVED Samantha Shannon’s TPOTOT, I’m telling you that the prequel is like 200 times better! I’d say it took the ‘mistakes’ of TPOTOT and learnt from them, creating a story that was incredible with such lovable and well-written characters it was hard to put the book down (for me, at least haha). So if you ever feel like reading some reaaally good 800+ pages high fantasy, A Day of Fallen Night is a fantastic choice :))
I feel the same way about Crescent City, it just *slightly* misses the mark for me. The first book was a solid 4.5 stars (for me) but the 2nd one barely made it into 4 star category-because of the amount of detail that went into it
For T.Kingfisher you should definitely read the sworn soldier series if you want horror or the sain of steel series for romance! I read both of them and finished them so quickly, they were so entertaining and they had such good storylines
Who actually thought mortal instruments was okay. That book hurt me - like what in the incest? why did it have to exist? And now I’m too scared to read any other Cassandra Clare book
If you want to give T Kingfisher another try, read Nettle and Bone! IMO her most mature work, loved the writing and it's fun but also tackles some serious things
I'm so glad the RUclips algorithm brought me to this video! I haven't read as many fantasy books as you, but the ones you loved/enjoyed and thought were "meh" I completely agreed with! I definitely added a few to my TBR based on your rankings and can't wait to watch your other videos
So as someone who would’ve put Priory in the integral part of my personality category I recommend A Day of Fallen Night lol but if you didn’t love Priory, I don’t know if it’ll be that different of an experience. Personal fave though.
This was really fun! Fantasy is my favorite genre and I added a few more to my TBR from watching this 😊I enjoyed Priory okay, but I liked A Day of Fallen Night a lot more. So if you do ever decide it’s time, I think it’s worth reading the prequel!
Just finished this newly released, original collection of fairy tales, entitled 'Sillies, Fancies, and Trifles' - it was phenomenal and just perfect for the season. You guys would love it! What's everyone else reading, I want some more recommendations to add to the lovely ones here. Keep up the beautiful videos :)
i’m halfway through Gold rn (5th in the Plated Prisoner series) and i’ve been really dragging my feet with this one. it’s become the book i pick up when i’m super bored and am in between other books. i think the series could have been so good if she made it 3 books, but there are just so many places in the series where she unnecessarily dragged everything out and now she’s saying it’ll be a 7 book series and i might DNF because of that
my top 'an integral part of my personality' book series and standalones: the infernal devices and the last hours by cassandra clare the shatter me series by tahereh mafi the once upon a broken heart trilogy by stephanie garber the acotar series by sjm the red queen series by victoria aveyard the secret history by donna tartt better than the movies by lynn painter icebreaker by hannah grace sorcery of thorns by margaret rogerson the book thief by markus zusak
I was confused why Stardust and Night Circus were in this video. I thought it only includes fantasy series. Were these books part of a series? Were they not standalones?
Title was edited. Yey. Thank you! Also, I am happy that the Villains duology (now a trilogy) is at the top. Although, as a VE Schwab fan, I would probably put most of her books at the top tier. 😂
For me, from blood and ash series would be an integral part of my personality and the infernal devices would be meh😂 to me it was giving I would love it in middle school or high school. Wasn’t terrible but not a favorite
when it comes to SJM i feel like if you read ACOTAR first you're gonna like it better than TOG and vice-versa. i read TOG first and it is still my favorite series and i had such expectations for ACOTAR but I literally couldnt finish the series, it had so much potential but it's just "meh" for me, especially after the masterpiece that is TOG🙇🏻♀️ crescent city that same as acotar, the books are unnecessarily long and nothing really made me invested i didnt even read the one just released😢
67 is quite impressive. This was fun, though I'm not familiar with a good chunk of the YA ones. Shadow and Bone, I tried and . . . I wasn't impressed. The world was awesome, and the story made no sense. The ending in particular . . . ick. (Does it get better?) Percy Jackson I'd personally put way, way up there because as a kid, I read that series 3-4 times and it was a blast each time.
Some of my TBR for the year: - 3rd book of from blood and ash - 2nd book of serpent and dove - last book of kingdom of the wicked... Katiee, why make me suffer? xd
I've yet to read Caraval, but I hated Once Upon a Broken Heart. Genuinely. Gave the first book 2 stars and the other 2 1,5 stars. Now I hear you say Caraval is worse than OUABH. It just got bumped down very significantly on my tbr lol
This feels embarrassing but is there a video out there explaining the book girlie world? What the acronyms mean, how you decide what is a 5 star is etc? Also just trying to find channels that read the vibes I like to read and I love all the cute girls I've been watching but I really want to find somewhere that dislikes romantic plots as much as I do 😅
it's kinda funny bc looking at books that you love i would BLINDLY tell that you are a throne of glass girly skldjlksadj less romance more high fantasy idk jsdkjskdl it's shocking🤣 i actually will never understand why people started hating on mortal instruments asdjsakdjk it's still my fav series from the author (okay inc🙅st plot is awful but i guess i just forget about it XD i spoiled myself before reading) 🤣🤣there was a time in book community when it was as well loved as acotar and shatter me 😂
for fun: my top tier: acotar, throne of glass, fourth wing, shatter me, heaven official's blessing, bone season, The Inheritance Cycle i really don't like: The Priory of the Orange Tree, The Night Circus
I like this new you❤ I always love the vibe of your videos but feel like you are trying to be nice and don’t give us any real criticisms but in this one you are so real and fun❤
I love your videos so much but we definitely don't have the same taste. I gave the Infernal devices trilogy 2 stars as a whole so I think that sums it up
the second i saw your placement of the house in the cerulean sea and ACOTAR i just knew we had different tastes bc THITCS book is the sole book on this list that is my entire personality 😂 and ACOTAR was full of toxic relationships and just incredibly meh
An Ember is the Ashes 😬 good luck. I loved the first two books (4 ⭐ and 5 ⭐) but the last two 😬 absolute mess. I feel the exact same way as you about the Gild series.
Yes you can skip it and just read the internal devices as it takes place in the 19th century. But just a heads up some characters appear in the mortal instruments if you were to finish it so they the are some ties with that series.
After finishing HOFAS and discussions with others on socials, I seriously think that SJM and her team ended HOSAB the way they did because if they hadn't...only true CC fans would have kept reading. I enjoyed HOEAB but the rest of the series....yeah who greenlighted this.
I’m currently reading the Mortal Instruments but it’s boring the hell out of me idk if I should finish it or jump to the Infernal Devices 😭 (LOVED THE VID BTW)
omg i'm on book 3 like 3 months ago and can't get myself to pick it up. i'm not even half of that book yet. i dont know why clary is so annoying specially there. but at the same time i really want to read tid.
Skip to the infernal devices! The TMI books were the ones that got me back into reading a couple years back but I can see they can be boring. I hope that doesn't stop you from picking up TID!!
@@Jay-o1z5k no problem 🥰 from someone that has read every shadowhunter book except a few novellas & chain of thorns, i don't think you need to read all TMI books especially if you're bored to get to the TID
Katie: I haven't read enough series *proceeds to talk about 67(!) series*
Girl that is impressive as hell!

Infernal devices
Starless sea
Half a soul
Emily Wilde's encyclopedia of faeries
Strange the dreamer
Vicious
The way of kings
wanted to thank you for all your videos, binging your content from the last 2 years kept me sane in my exam season!!

I totally agree! ADOFN was absolutely incredible and I’m already a die hard for TPOTOT
I feel the same way about Crescent City, it just *slightly* misses the mark for me. The first book was a solid 4.5 stars (for me) but the 2nd one barely made it into 4 star category-because of the amount of detail that went into it
Just the fact that the last category is called "who greenlighted this?" is so funny to me, because yes, that's exactly what some books feel like 💀
For T.Kingfisher you should definitely read the sworn soldier series if you want horror or the sain of steel series for romance! I read both of them and finished them so quickly, they were so entertaining and they had such good storylines
Who actually thought mortal instruments was okay. That book hurt me - like what in the incest? why did it have to exist? And now I’m too scared to read any other Cassandra Clare book
literally SAME THOUGHTS, SAME EMOTIONS, SAME FRUSTRATIONS, when it comes to how Chain of Thorns brought down the Last Hours series 😩
This was so fun to watch. I've actually read most of the books in your worst section lol and at least one of each in the other categories.
I'm generally not a big SJM fan but to put Acotar above The Name of Wind was wild
You have to read the fifth one! Really expands on the other characters plot lines!
If you havent read second book on "one dark window", please add it to TBR! Sooooo much better then first book! loved it
So as someone who would’ve put Priory in the integral part of my personality category I recommend A Day of Fallen Night lol but if you didn’t love Priory, I don’t know if it’ll be that different of an experience. Personal fave though.
I completely agree with your take on SJM. I started with ACOTAR, haven’t started CC and night possibly dnf TOG
This was really fun! Fantasy is my favorite genre and I added a few more to my TBR from watching this 😊I enjoyed Priory okay, but I liked A Day of Fallen Night a lot more. So if you do ever decide it’s time, I think it’s worth reading the prequel!

Agree so much with Emily Wilde being in top tier, I need to read Half a Soul, I have it on my kindle, maybe I'll get to it this month 😅
i’m halfway through Gold rn (5th in the Plated Prisoner series) and i’ve been really dragging my feet with this one. it’s become the book i pick up when i’m super bored and am in between other books. i think the series could have been so good if she made it 3 books, but there are just so many places in the series where she unnecessarily dragged everything out and now she’s saying it’ll be a 7 book series and i might DNF because of that
my top 'an integral part of my personality' book series and standalones:
the infernal devices and the last hours by cassandra clare
the shatter me series by tahereh mafi
the once upon a broken heart trilogy by stephanie garber
the acotar series by sjm
the red queen series by victoria aveyard
the secret history by donna tartt
better than the movies by lynn painter
icebreaker by hannah grace
sorcery of thorns by margaret rogerson
the book thief by markus zusak
15:08 The Lord of the Rings
14:55 The Hobbit
I was confused why Stardust and Night Circus were in this video. I thought it only includes fantasy series. Were these books part of a series? Were they not standalones?
Title was edited. Yey. Thank you!
Also, I am happy that the Villains duology (now a trilogy) is at the top. Although, as a VE Schwab fan, I would probably put most of her books at the top tier. 😂
ahhh i just woke up this is the best way to start my day 🥺💛
more people need to read lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer
my jaw definitely dropped when I saw kings of scars ranking but its okay I understand 🥲
The quality of your video is unreal!!!! Wow!
Dude if you've never watched a k-drama you need to!! They are soo funn!!!
Finvarras Circus and Wintersong are amazing books too ✨
the fact that the infernal devices is at the top and the mortal instruments is at the bottom kills me 💀
(both spots well deserved tho)
For me, from blood and ash series would be an integral part of my personality and the infernal devices would be meh😂 to me it was giving I would love it in middle school or high school. Wasn’t terrible but not a favorite
the 5th book in The plated prisoner is the best out of the series imo
when it comes to SJM i feel like if you read ACOTAR first you're gonna like it better than TOG and vice-versa. i read TOG first and it is still my favorite series and i had such expectations for ACOTAR but I literally couldnt finish the series, it had so much potential but it's just "meh" for me, especially after the masterpiece that is TOG🙇🏻♀️ crescent city that same as acotar, the books are unnecessarily long and nothing really made me invested i didnt even read the one just released😢
Love this video so much ❤ the crescent city one had me so shocked and now I’m even more nervous to read it 😅
It was really good i enjoyed it lol
Fourth wing???
and once upon a broken heart!
@@verylostpuppyshe did OUABH! it’s in “so fun!”.
I think it's supposed to be a 5-part series and she said she wouldn't include a series that she isn't even close to finishing
How can anyone hate Kvothe???
it's so hard to find people who also think King of Scars is absolutely disastrous
You should read the wizards guide to defensive baking by T. Kingfisher. It’s so good. You’d Iove it. I would put this in the top of my tier list.
Happy Monday, love!
67 is quite impressive. This was fun, though I'm not familiar with a good chunk of the YA ones. Shadow and Bone, I tried and . . . I wasn't impressed. The world was awesome, and the story made no sense. The ending in particular . . . ick. (Does it get better?) Percy Jackson I'd personally put way, way up there because as a kid, I read that series 3-4 times and it was a blast each time.
this is irrelevant but your camera quality is so amazing !!
This is an official request for a baking with Katie video
I’ve read six crimson cranes night circus cruel prince and these are fr true
pookie (divine rivals) is looking absolutely fire tonight
Some of my TBR for the year:
- 3rd book of from blood and ash
- 2nd book of serpent and dove
- last book of kingdom of the wicked...
Katiee, why make me suffer? xd
I agree with you about Crescent City.
The Name of the Wind in meh 🥲
Loved your video ❤
I personally think that the "A Shadow in the Ember" Series is way better than "blood and Ash" 🤭
You should try reading A Song of Ice and Fire
The series is not finished, and probably will be never be completed.
I came here for Twilight. But tbh didn’t leave when you burned me like that. ✨🧛🏻♂️🔥
You should read ‘the beginning after the end’ novel (not comic) and lord of the mysteries there both really good
I’m reading the crescent city and I feel you 😭 I’m convincing myself to like it but it’s not clicking with me
really loved this video! would love to see more of them for different genres
I've yet to read Caraval, but I hated Once Upon a Broken Heart. Genuinely. Gave the first book 2 stars and the other 2 1,5 stars. Now I hear you say Caraval is worse than OUABH. It just got bumped down very significantly on my tbr lol
I wanna read the infernal devices series but do you have to read her other series first? That’s a lot 😅
No, you don't have to. You can just read the trilogy.
This feels embarrassing but is there a video out there explaining the book girlie world? What the acronyms mean, how you decide what is a 5 star is etc? Also just trying to find channels that read the vibes I like to read and I love all the cute girls I've been watching but I really want to find somewhere that dislikes romantic plots as much as I do 😅
I honestly have the same exact opinion about name of the wind. I can’t finish it 😭
it's kinda funny bc looking at books that you love i would BLINDLY tell that you are a throne of glass girly skldjlksadj less romance more high fantasy idk jsdkjskdl it's shocking🤣
i actually will never understand why people started hating on mortal instruments asdjsakdjk it's still my fav series from the author (okay inc🙅st plot is awful but i guess i just forget about it XD i spoiled myself before reading) 🤣🤣there was a time in book community when it was as well loved as acotar and shatter me 😂
for fun:
my top tier: acotar, throne of glass, fourth wing, shatter me, heaven official's blessing, bone season, The Inheritance Cycle
i really don't like: The Priory of the Orange Tree, The Night Circus
I love how u put From blood and ash at the bottom and that’s my absolut favorite fantasy series. But I gave The infernal devices 1 star so we’re even😂
I like this new you❤
I always love the vibe of your videos but feel like you are trying to be nice and don’t give us any real criticisms but in this one you are so real and fun❤
I liked priory but I loved day of falle night
you are SOOOO real for crescent city. LOVED ACTOAR. Really liked ToG….but CC?? I just cannot….
I love your videos so much but we definitely don't have the same taste. I gave the Infernal devices trilogy 2 stars as a whole so I think that sums it up
WHAT MASCARA DO YOU USE?!?!? 💖
the second i saw your placement of the house in the cerulean sea and ACOTAR i just knew we had different tastes bc THITCS book is the sole book on this list that is my entire personality 😂 and ACOTAR was full of toxic relationships and just incredibly meh
An Ember is the Ashes 😬 good luck. I loved the first two books (4 ⭐ and 5 ⭐) but the last two 😬 absolute mess.
I feel the exact same way as you about the Gild series.
I want to read Infernal Devices and the Cassandra Clare books but I’ve not been impressed with Mortal Instruments. Can I skip that series???
Yes you can skip it and just read the internal devices as it takes place in the 19th century. But just a heads up some characters appear in the mortal instruments if you were to finish it so they the are some ties with that series.
u should read harry potter u would love it plz its amazing
I would have way too many series I have ever read, though I'm 61 so I've had time to read a lot
After finishing HOFAS and discussions with others on socials, I seriously think that SJM and her team ended HOSAB the way they did because if they hadn't...only true CC fans would have kept reading. I enjoyed HOEAB but the rest of the series....yeah who greenlighted this.
You should leave the website of the store you buy them from. Just so some people have an easy time finding them
Katie DNFing name of the wind…Patrick Rothfuss…same babe same
Damn I love your takes!
You should read Berserk
Not me having the same opinion on almost every book 😭✨
cc, kingdom of the wicked & fbaa being at the very bottom and TID at the very top
okay but king of scars?! you made it so dirty
@@booksandteas LITERALLY!!! I also cannot with the brother sister plot with Jace and Clary
Skip to the infernal devices! The TMI books were the ones that got me back into reading a couple years back but I can see they can be boring. I hope that doesn't stop you from picking up TID!!
@@marianacorreia2449 Thanks for the advice! ❤️❤️❤️
@@Jay-o1z5k no problem 🥰 from someone that has read every shadowhunter book except a few novellas & chain of thorns, i don't think you need to read all TMI books especially if you're bored to get to the TID
Ranking six of crows this low is a crime
Nahh
Sending you lots of love❤
COMPLETELY agree with you on Kvothe! One of the most overrated protagonists ever
❤❤❤ I hope you have a lovely year (:
why is there a ton of stand alones and short stories
