I’m an archaeologist and every single one of my friends/colleagues not only hate Sapiens, but are genuinely disturbed that such a misapplication of the archaeological and historical record could be such a global success. My paleoanthropology friend literally hurled the book across the room during the first couple chapters 😂. It’s used as an example of how our research can be appropriated for ethnogenesis. The narrative is insanely biased, and completely misrepresents decades of research 😅 but I get why people would read it and think it was decent.

@@DavidScotton new information seems to come up weekly in regards to archeology and anthropology so any older book is going to have some updating needed to get a more complete picture but to say jared diamonds work is "shoddy" is definitely not quite right. It won a Pulitzer prize and is widely respected. If you write a book on a subject now like human history, in 10-20 years there's going to be multiple updates we have learned in the meantime, rendering some things in said book not correct anymore.

Such a fun video! I took the oportunity to look back at my own 5 star reads, which was quite interesting. I'm about as old as you, but I don't use goodreads and only started bookjournaling in the middle of 2021 so I can't go back too far, but still

The grisha trilogy is also those type of books that aren't great but are ranked so highly for me. I was OBSESSED. I still am😅
Also vicious was an instant 5 stars for me, No questions asked, hands down one of my favourite books.
With ninth house I remember giving it 4 stars or a little above but when I look back,I don't think that I'd like it as much. The only thing I remember are ghosts and the MC having a foot fetish. I don't know if I'll ever read the sequel.

Your way of talking and even your voice reminds me of Ashley (Bestdressed) a youtuber who's not active since 3 years but honestly she was my comfort one and now you are ❤

For me the book that isn’t that great but introduced me to a particular genre and reading that it will always have a special place in my heart is the whole The Vampire Academy series! I still vividly remember how I felt that time and how I cried but looking back it really isn’t that good I was just a teenager lol. 😂

Can confirm. I have been obsessed with The Yellow Wallpaper ever since I read it for school. And that was a good 6 years ago.

the "I didn't know better" is so real. I had a short phase where i read a few mystery thriller, and I would love to read more, but so far all three or four of them i rated 5 stars and I truly believe it's just because I need to read more of them to learn what a good mystery thriller is lmao

This was fun to watch! My series that introduced me to resding bit Im slightly embarrassed about now is Shadowhunters. I have every book and it takes up 1.5 shelves on my bookshelf. Its dropped off of my favorites but I can't see getting rid of them. This really kickstartee my resding as a teen and young adult
