Absolutely no question about it, and for all three names. Finally the final two greats are in, now only Toney remains, let's hope for the least amount of further time (just like for another great ''Toni'', Toni Kukoc lol).
Excellent summary. I was going to write similar one, but with yours posted there is no need. Andrew Toney is one of those forgotten greats that people like you and I will always have a special place in our memories for. The dude was smooth, serious, and d-e-a-d-l-y. Loved the way he conducted business. No nonsense or baloney. That's my kind of athlete. Loved that whole team too. Great times.
Growing up as a kid in Boston, Andrew Toney was a nightmare. They had no answer for him & I believe he (himself) stole two NBA trips to the finals for Boston (82 & 83). If AT's feet did not fail him, he would have been an all time great.
Many forget that Michael Jordan was almost traded for Andrew Toney but the Sixers didn't want the trade. At the time, Jordan had a broken foot and his future was uncertain. Toney, was destroying the Boston Celtics and he was nicknamed the Boston Strangler. Too bad and kind of ironic a broken foot ended Toney's career.
I remember Toney's NBA career from day one, I lived in Philly and lived and died with the 76ers (then , that stopped in 1987), I was at the parade on Broad Street in 1983. Toney was WAY more than just an offensive weapon, he was a very strong defender and he moved the ball, super high IQ on both ends, he was a complete player, clutch in the playoffs. How he was treated by the front office and the Philly press was horrible, too bad he never recovered, he was special.
Thanks for highlighting Andrew Toney. I remember vividly how unstoppable he was in the mid-80's. You could see the fear on the Celtics faces when he'd enter the game. It's a damn shame how the 76ers medical staff & management completely f--ked up his career by forcing him to play before he was recovered from knee surgery. He was never the same.
BELIEVE IT OR NOT ANDREW TONEY WAS MY 4TH GRADE HEALTH TEACHER. AMAZING PERSONALITY . I WILL NEVER FORGET HIM
Band Tana i am former student at Peachtree Elementary. I remember when he first came back in the early 90's.
To hear Ainge say, "I feared Andrew Toney, even more than Michael Jordan"......
I understand
Wow for sure.
@MANCHESTER UNITED F.C take your fairy footed soccer back Europe and stay there
One of the greatest. He should have been in the HOF by now. So should Bobby Jones and Mo Cheeks.
Absolutely!
Agree completely!
This is true.
Absolutely no question about it, and for all three names.

Bobby Jones is now.
"I feared Andrew Toney even more than Micheal Jordan" what a testimony to his game.
''Boston strangler''
For those who witnessed him , Jordan killed in the air , Toney slaughtered on the floor. Jordan would talk , TONEY DID NO TALKING , a true killer.
I didn’t come here to watch Mobley highlights....I came here to see Toney. LOL.
Man! Andrew Tony was nice & if it wasn't for his unfortunate injuries he would've been in the NBA HOF.

In the season when Jordan broke his leg, Toney played 6 games and got injured even more, he gave 4 points / game ... So, don't make it up ...
Love this dudes game. He was no.joke. Dangerous

Andrew Toney was the reason the Celtics traded for Dennis Johnson.
"The Boston Strangler"
@@realg5276 Toney destroyed DJ
Yes sir
No way I didn't know that but did you know DJ used to be an offensive powerhouse before he segued in his later career as a stopper?
@M yes but connoisseurs know about bball- Balkans, Iberians, Greeks, Italians and Turks
What Ainge said, says it all.
Sidney. I cried said Toney was the toughest guy to guard he played against because he could do anything and had no tendencies you could look for.
picture perfect jump shot that man had
I loved that Sixers Team.....Toney was a one on one machine. Jumpers off the jab step or taking the rock strong to the hoop.
The Boston Strangler
#22 Andrewww Tooooonnnnnneeyyyyy
Injures robbed Andrew of a hall of fame career
it was a shame but that is 100% true,Andrew Toney was just fearless and loved to take the pressure shot
The Boston Strangler. Still got no clue how this team never won more titles
Unfortunately, he didn't play that long.
Toney, Tiny, DJ and Cousy, are way underrated.
Yep.

Boston Strangler! I love that
@bobbymarsh1 True. But it's the Basketball Hall of Fame Petrovic had a career before the NBA. Toney just didn't play enough to be a lock.
HOF for sure
+James G If it weren't for the foot injuries to cut his career short. He would likely be.
@@Amick44 he would have EASILY been a HOF player had his feet held up
@glinxz wut did barkely say about toney?
That he was the best player he ever played with.
Sprewell got burned a lot.
