One of the greatest. He should have been in the HOF by now. So should Bobby Jones and Mo Cheeks.

Absolutely no question about it, and for all three names.
Finally the final two greats are in, now only Toney remains, let's hope for the least amount of further time (just like for another great ''Toni'', Toni Kukoc lol).

Man! Andrew Tony was nice & if it wasn't for his unfortunate injuries he would've been in the NBA HOF.

Excellent summary. I was going to write similar one, but with yours posted there is no need.
Andrew Toney is one of those forgotten greats that people like you and I will always have a special place in our memories for. The dude was smooth, serious, and d-e-a-d-l-y. Loved the way he conducted business. No nonsense or baloney. That's my kind of athlete.
Loved that whole team too. Great times.

Growing up as a kid in Boston, Andrew Toney was a nightmare. They had no answer for him & I believe he (himself) stole two NBA trips to the finals for Boston (82 & 83). If AT's feet did not fail him, he would have been an all time great.

Many forget that Michael Jordan was almost traded for Andrew Toney but the Sixers didn't want the trade. At the time, Jordan had a broken foot and his future was uncertain. Toney, was destroying the Boston Celtics and he was nicknamed the Boston Strangler. Too bad and kind of ironic a broken foot ended Toney's career.

    • @RadoslavAdamovic

In the season when Jordan broke his leg, Toney played 6 games and got injured even more, he gave 4 points / game ... So, don't make it up ...

I remember Toney's NBA career from day one, I lived in Philly and lived and died with the 76ers (then , that stopped in 1987), I was at the parade on Broad Street in 1983. Toney was WAY more than just an offensive weapon, he was a very strong defender and he moved the ball, super high IQ on both ends, he was a complete player, clutch in the playoffs. How he was treated by the front office and the Philly press was horrible, too bad he never recovered, he was special.

Thanks for highlighting Andrew Toney. I remember vividly how unstoppable he was in the mid-80's. You could see the fear on the Celtics faces when he'd enter the game. It's a damn shame how
the 76ers medical staff & management completely f--ked up his career by forcing him to play before he was recovered from knee surgery. He was never the same.
