tmroadrunner I think you are embarrassing yourself with that kind of language. Is this how you speak to the people close to you? This is bad behavior on your part.
Andrew Toney had that quick twitch first step he could shot ,drive, pass ,play solid defense. He was a Beast the foot problems slow him down. That is the thing about sports you cannot recover from a serious injury.
In fairness for Chuck, he played with Moses for 2 years even though he was putting up MVP worthy numbers while the good Dr J's scoring averages went from 20 ppg in 1984-85 to 16.8 in his final year, he played 60 games in Chuck's third year
After the title in 83, Toney inexplicably stopped playing role of shooting guard and tried his hand a point guard even though the team had a HOF at point in Maurice Cheeks. His fearless shooting stagnated from 84 onward. Frustrating looking back at the clips from 84-86 where Toney looks to pass the ball. Defenders stopped covering him as a deep ball threat. Maybe it was his feet. Maybe something else But without his 30-40 points per game in the playoffs the Sixers were never going to repeat.

Who else is here cause a few nights ago chuck, still says Andrew was his best team mate, or player he ever played with, whatever... He and Kenny literally had this convo 2 years ago. The exact same convo. Any one else remember that? If not, search "Charles Barkley Andrew Toney" and you'll see it. Second below this video. It'll take over first though I'm sure so check when it was posted y'all!
I'm from Philly and Andrew Toney was unstoppable. He was actually better than Doc at that point. And Shaq needs to realize that the game is different now so Just cause a big man isn't a low post player he can still doninate
Dj Lee the only way a big man can dominate is in the low post, the game has changed, all the rules now favour the perimeter and makes posting up difficult, hence there are no truly dominant big man today
Exactly, why wouldn’t he respect a big man who’s shooting 3s but is still efficient and contributes to his team’s success. Shaq is an annoying dinosaur tbh and I started watching the NBA in the 90s
Kenny is much like the media and perhaps most fans who were watching NBA in the early 80s. Unfortunately we sometimes guage an athlete by huge signing contracts, charismatic personalities, and flashy or flamboyant lifestyles. Andrew Toney had none of these assets. But he was unstoppable best I recall. I always wonder what kept the Boston Strangler completely free from trash talk. I just figured that his respect for Dr. J was enormous and he wanted the 76ers to be Doc’s team. Charles is correct however. Toney couldn’t even be slowed by defenders that could contain Jordan to at least some degree.
Toney was a great, great player. Yes, Dr. J led those 76er teams, but they were backcourt driven. Why? Because Coach Billy Cunningham always said he had complete confidence in Andrew and Maurice executing.
People forget, if the Celtics didn't miraculously win close games 5,6,7 in 1981, the 76ers go to 4 straight NBA Finals from 1980-1983, and win 2 championships. Andrew Toney was very effective against the celtics in the playoffs.
I mean I was in the regular Army for 6 years the only time I saw national guardsmen were Basic Training and AIT Advance Individual Training and then I was deployed to Germany for 2 years and the National Guard people got to go home. We called them weekend warriors lol
Gotta disagree with you, chuck. Minnesota has the most disappointing spot on lock for the foreseeable future. The media hypes the shit out of them and they don't make the playoffs every year, and right now they're 13th in the west.

In Barkley first and second season Moses Malone had 24.6 P and 13.1 R - 23.1/11.8 plus 2.0 and 1.5 blocks per game. Toney had 17.8 P and 5.2 A - later he was injured so in the third season he was 10.6 P and 3.8 A. One year before Barkley entered the game Malone 22.7 P and 13.4 R whereas Toney was 20.4 P and 4.8 A. How come he was better? And obviously we all know what an amazing player Julius Erving was. Kenny is 100% right
@Trade Bum Simmons True. The only time Chuck played with Moses in the playoffs, he couldn't make a shot. Erving also couldn't make a shot in that Boston series they lost. When the two guys who take the most shots are shooting 41% and 32% in the series, and you lose, I can see how Chuck remembers the best guy being Toney. Plus Toney could actually get others involved. Moses was a pretty bad playmaker, J was mediocre at best. That said, Moses and J are waaayy above Toney as all-time players. I think you have to rank them top30 and top20 respectively.
