+JD Mo That was on Easter Sunday. If there was any consolation to that, is when as time was ticking down in that 7th game with Dr. J having the ball and it looking saddenly apparent that we'd lose, Dr. J was driving to the basket and as the buzzer was about to sound, instead of dunking it where he had a golden opportunity to just slam it down right in front of his fans and everything, he just held on to the ball and landed while holding himself back. 4 very good teams that's for sure. That 71-72 Lakers team that won 33 in a row would've been up there as well. This past season's Golden State Warriors team, while they did hit an NBA record 73 regular season wins, they fluttered in the playoffs as we all know. Watching that ‘82-‘83 Sixers team play shows you team basketball at its finest. A team with two superstars in Doc and Moses, plus a deadly scoring threat in Toney, yet you see them all play together, pass together, and defend together as a team. One play in particular shows this: Lanier goes up for a shot in the key, both Doc and Moses block the shot together. Then Toney takes the ball up court, passes to Cheeks down low, Cheeks passes it to Doc coming down on the wing, and Doc passes it to Moses underneath for the bucket plus the foul. You see that team do this all year to everyone, from the 1st team to the bench players. It was a joy to watch in real time, trust me.

The best team in the Nba playing the most entairtaining style of bb..in this video you can clearly see why Doc is the best Combo forward of all times..Scoring,attacking the rim, open court nightmare and a constant threat for steals blocks and offensive boards..that man retired no 3 to 30000 points and 10000 boards had 3 offensive boards per game way more than many centers and more that all current nba bigs and no 2 all time in steals(still no 8) and no 10 all time in blocks whitch is insane(still no 23)..too bad the. Sixers forced him down to 17 fga per game from his usual 22,23 in ABA to accomodate McGinnis and never created special system for him in the paunt where he was a real brut force above the rim even out of his prime...
I don't know if you've ever heard Bird or Barkley speak about Toney, but they have the utmost respect for him. Bird said he was the guy (on Philly) Boston feared the most. Charles always said he felt Andrew was the guy he wanted to have the ball in the clutch.
The sixers needed Malone. He gave them the third star that LA and Boston had. This was also a very good Bucks team that beat Boston in the semifinals. What if the sixers had Malone since 77 or 78. History would be very different.
Moses Malone took Philly to "the promise land." the orig relentless beast mode down low. "shot and a foul" was innate talent to draw fouls; automatic at the free throw line. quiet team leader. ‘Fo, Fo, Fo’ preceding '83 playoffs
Word....most underrated center of all time. Up there with Wilt and Russ on the defensive end imo. Also, mentor to the Dream...people forget about that.
Bobby Jones great on defense and ran the court for easy dunks and layups on offense. He deserved more attention for his play. Toney was Amazing and Cheeks was a director but he made me laugh always dribbling right side right handed 🤣🤣🏀🏀
How did this historically great team manage to lose in the first round to the New Jersey Nets the very next year, with essentially the exact same team?
This '82-'83 "Fo-Fo-Fo" team, along with the '95-'96 Bulls WERE the two best team I have ever seen. That is, until this year with the Warriors (58-6 as of 3/12). BUT, this Warriors team still needs to win the title to begin the debate. BTW, one of the best NBA play-by-play men ever calling this game (Eddie Doucette).
Yeah, he wore Kareem's ass out too. But the press never said anything about that. Moses (skipping college) didn't have Kareem's UCLA pedigree and spoke little with the press. But, the players knew.
76ers. Bulls have no answer for Malone. Toney would give Jordan as much trouble as Jordan would give back plus I could see Bobby Jones getting the assignment too. Pippin can't guard doc. Malone vs Rodman on the boards.
I got respect for that whole team possibly the greatest single year team ever. Who sweeps that LA team in 4 games ? Lol they did. But Moses ( the most underrated center ever that I believe no 1 could handle today he would have trashed prime shaq. ). And Tony who for 1 season that he was health was the only player that was as devastating as bird hell bird did better against Jordan then tony
The sixers had Dr. J .Moses Malone. Andrew Toney . Maurice Cheeks. Bobby Jones . Clint Richardson. . Like I said the Bulls had Jordan. Teams with one great player couldn't win back then . When jordan won the league was horrible. Watered-down. I'm just stating facts .
+Poppa Doc Crutchfield Agree with you and Kurt. But remember, this Bucks team -- Marques Johnson, Bob Lanier, Sidney Moncrief, Brian Winters, Junior Bridgeman, Alton Lister and rookie Paul Pressey -- swept the Celtics in 1983. The Sixers with Moses never beat the Celtics in the playoffs.
Yeah, I get tired of hearing how great the Pacers, Jazz and Knicks were in the 1990s, only to be denied a title by Jordan. I don't think Reggie Miller starts in Philly or Milwaukee 1981-87. Pippen sure doesn't, to try to make a relativity point here. Dr. J called it "The Great Misfortune of the Bucks" to be in the East with the Sixers and the Celtics in the early 1980s.
Jones , Clemons Johnson , Clinton Richardson. Was a versatile bench those 3 covered all 5 spots..throw in Sedale threat, Earl Cureton playing hard when called on...underrated group
A team that wins only one championship can hardly be considered "one of the best teams in NBA history." With that collection of tale t, it is fair to say that they underperformed,

My favorite team the 76ers Ivaroni was not a starting caliber player they still won with a starting 4 and Bobby Jones off the bench . The 66-67 team and this team 2 of the greatest teams ever.
The Original big 3 . Malone .Dr.J .and Toney
That, was my team in my formative years. Andrew Toney was a beast.
Tony would light you up like Vinnie
To me, you can't limit that team to a trio. Their starting 5 was one of the best of all time.
The 82-83 Sixers were ans remain a top 5 all time NBA Championship team
They played superb defense back then.5:09
Wonder what if with toney
Andrew Toney a scoring machine.
I don't know if you've ever heard Bird or Barkley speak about Toney, but they have the utmost respect for him. Bird said he was the guy (on Philly) Boston feared the most. Charles always said he felt Andrew was the guy he wanted to have the ball in the clutch.
Mick A Danny Ainge said he feared Toney only next to Jordan.
I believe it. Until Boston obtained DJ, he killed em' regularly. Didn't call him the Boston Strangler for nothing!
@@Amick44 Yes, the Boston Strangler! Toney would've been an automatic HOFer if not for those damn stress fractures.
@@kevinwilkins3248 May have been. He was certainly a handful, to say the least.
As a Bucks fan, it's so great to hear the voice of Eddie Doucette.
Great passing by the Sixers.
People talk so much about lebron in 2011 when bird getting swept and outplayed by Sidney moncrief is just as bad.
It’s a shame how Toney’s career was cut short. He was so good.
The sixers needed Malone. He gave them the third star that LA and Boston had. This was also a very good Bucks team that beat Boston in the semifinals. What if the sixers had Malone since 77 or 78. History would be very different.
The announcer loved the Sixers!
R.I. P.
Moses Malone
Big 5 forget big3
These were the
Original Super
Teams
Moses Malone took Philly to "the promise land." the orig relentless beast mode down low. "shot and a foul" was innate talent to draw fouls; automatic at the free throw line. quiet team leader. ‘Fo, Fo, Fo’ preceding '83 playoffs
Word....most underrated center of all time. Up there with Wilt and Russ on the defensive end imo. Also, mentor to the Dream...people forget about that.
@@iess2006 Defense wins Championships. Embiid is league leading clown instead. btw Moses was a great passer. Consistent too.
Cheeks was an underrated point guard
Bobby Jones great on defense and ran the court for easy dunks and layups on offense. He deserved more attention for his play. Toney was Amazing and Cheeks was a director but he made me laugh always dribbling right side right handed 🤣🤣🏀🏀
One of the greatest teams in NBA history! Loss one game in their championship run!!!!!! 4/5/4😁
Any ideas on y the sixers faded out after this? Seems like Moses got old and slow overnight.
Toney was a cold blooded killer
How did this historically great team manage to lose in the first round to the New Jersey Nets the very next year, with essentially the exact same team?
I was in the7th grade and was wondering the same thing then and now. I guess they were content with that one title.
Drugs. Coked up Michael Ray Richardson. Injuries: Andrew Toney's undiagnosed untreated stress fractures in his feet stole his shot.
I didn't know that george jefferson played for the Bucks!!!
Those were the days: fo fo fo 😆 🤣 😂
Why is Andrew toney not in the NBA hall of fame
That pass from Bobby Jones 3:37
As great as these players were, they do not win a title without Bobby Jones. Of course they don't win it without Moses or Dr. J either.
That's the funniest comment on here...Hahahaha
Is that the great Eddie Doucette calling the game for the Bucks?
Moses wore Laniers ass out. When Toney got hot he got HOT.
Lanier was getting old and worn out by this game.
Yeah, he wore Kareem's ass out too. But the press never said anything about that. Moses (skipping college) didn't have Kareem's UCLA pedigree and spoke little with the press. But, the players knew.
He (Lanier} was. Bob's prime was in Detroit.
do remember one male Sixer fan said,BIG MO,LITTLE MO,THE DOCTOR,MARC IVARONI,ANDREW TONEY,NO BALONEY...SIXERS ALL THE WAY !!!
This 76ers team vs 96 bulls who would win?
Vincent Cantera 76ers
76ers. Bulls have no answer for Malone. Toney would give Jordan as much trouble as Jordan would give back plus I could see Bobby Jones getting the assignment too. Pippin can't guard doc. Malone vs Rodman on the boards.
ERRRRRRRRRRVING!!!!!!!!!!!
Celtics fan... How great were the Sixers back then. What games between Celtics and Sixers ..none better or more intense. Whether in
Philly or Boston..
💕 💕 💕
Remember these Bucks had just SWEPT the Larry Bird led Celtics 4-0....
I got respect for that whole team possibly the greatest single year team ever. Who sweeps that LA team in 4 games ? Lol they did. But Moses ( the most underrated center ever that I believe no 1 could handle today he would have trashed prime shaq. ). And Tony who for 1 season that he was health was the only player that was as devastating as bird hell bird did better against Jordan then tony
obviously iavaroni was best player on this team
😂Lmao
No baloney. But they didn't need him.
But then, I think you were the greatest Cubs manager ever.
The sixers had Dr. J .Moses Malone. Andrew Toney . Maurice Cheeks. Bobby Jones . Clint Richardson. . Like I said the Bulls had Jordan. Teams with one great player couldn't win back then . When jordan won the league was horrible. Watered-down. I'm just stating facts .
i agree with you...this sixers teams beat the celtics 3 out of 4 yrs to get to the finals...2 out of 3 without moses...
+JD Mo Yes sir I remember that Bucks Team . if they played in the 90s they could've won multiple titles.
+JD Mo I totally agree . Those teams where mediocre at best .Bucks Sixers Lakers Celtics of the 80s where great teams .
Jordan's Bulls would get swept by this Great team . The only great player the bulls had is jordan.
+Kurt Adams I have heard other people say that. The Bulls were great, but so was this team.
+vdogg43 It's true brother. Big MO would average 40. and so would Dr.J
And pippen.
Kurt Adams ...I second that.
Jones , Clemons Johnson , Clinton Richardson. Was a versatile bench those 3 covered all 5 spots..throw in Sedale threat, Earl Cureton playing hard when called on...underrated group
Yeah and typical Philadelphia sports they won the champion and got bounced in the 1st round the next year by the Nets.
George Gervin Larry Kenon James Silas
Parrish, Mchale, and Bird.
A team that wins only one championship can hardly be considered "one of the best teams in NBA history." With that collection of tale t, it is fair to say that they underperformed,
Andrew toney needs his number retired he was a killer
Arguably the greatest team ever? 65-17 reg season in th a era. Only 1 playoff lose 12-1 ! Went up 3-0 in every series. Id take 86 Boston over them IMO.
That would be a great playoff series! But I'd still give the edge to the '82 Sixers.
