  • With no new road-going 600’s on the horizon, Fast Bikes raid the used market to find three of the ‘Sauciest Supersports’…
Supersport machines previously dominated the sportsbike sector, sadly now they are forgotten gems with nothing new to get excited about for the roads. However, Bruce and Tim find there is still plenty of fun to be had via the used bike scene picking three of their favourites to test, whilst also taking the opportunity to run the new Michelin Road 6’s as a control tyre and finding some appropriate roads to thrash around on.
With the Honda CBR600, Yamaha’s R6 and the Triumph 675R Daytona being in their top three, Bruce and Tim rank each on merit with all scoring maximum points for the absolute joy to be had from a ‘Saucy 600’.

I still love 600 super sports and have kept my old 2009 ZX6R. Still puts a huge smile on my face! No depreciation and cheap tax means it doesn’t cost much to keep in the garage either 👍

No GSXR and no Ninja? Those two were always the flagship models in the 600 range, and a 600 supersport shootout should always contained all four of the Japanese manufacturers. And the manufacturers did not give up on them, Europe did; you can still buy them all new outside Euro 5 countries.

Where are the mighty 600cc GSX-R's ? Plenty of them in used market 2007-2008 mostly. Favorite bike of the trackdays folks.

Same here. The 636 is by far the best bike in this segment. The Triumph is nice but more expensive and much smaller aftermarket.

Gutted manufacturers don’t make bikes like this anymore. These were top of the range and exciting when I was getting into bikes at 16, younger riders these days only have happy shopper parallel twins to look forward too, and that’s a shame. No wonder the demographic is getting older. Long live sports bikes, il be riding my 08 fireblade for years yet 🤘

I know a gear indicator is important to some and an aftermarket one is easy to fit - but spend 22k on a Panigale V4 and doesn’t get you a fuel gauge!

I never had a 600 coz I'm too big at 16 stone when i passed my test. I went 125, 125, 125, 125, then 750. Admittedly only a gentle GSX750 F but I did top end on the way home from On yer Bike Aylesbury and scratched both footpegs through Tooting. Aah fond memories of middleweight bikes

I think manufacturers deleting the 600 supersport class is going to be one of the dumbest decisions in motorcycle history. This idea of going from 250,300,400,600, 700 parallel twins to a 1000cc supersport is stupid.

    • @richardkillian5657
      @richardkillian5657 Год назад +1

The manufacturers are focussing on what the market wants and that is naked bikes (ignoring the adventure bike market for a moment). In the naked sports bike market there is tonnes of choice - i4s, triples, v2s, v4s, parallel twins etc etc. I could happily go from my V4 Tuono to a 1000cc supersport, however I don't really want to as a hyper naked is just a better road bike (and the road is where I'm riding 99% of the time). I probably will get a 1000cc supersport at some point but it will be a second bike and not my daily ride.
The manufacturers are there to make money so they are going to focus their R&D budget on developing bikes that are going to sell - they aren't going to regret making a sound business decision. In my opinion 1000cc sports bikes are better road bikes than 600cc supersports anyway as at least they have some midrange torque.

@@richardkillian5657 i agree to some degree. I think theres a clear and substantial 600cc super sport market. I agree "streetable" bikes have a huge mkt too.. i myself own a ZX6R, Kaw Vulcan voyager 1700..
And just bought am Aprilia RST1000 Futura...which by far love over any super street ive owned. I think the Aprilia RS660 by far is my fav "new era" 600cc bike. I seriously Aprilia and Suzuki should bring back their L and V twins over parallels. I think L and V twins by far offer more over parallels..just my opinion.

Great test lads really enjoyed it 👏🏻. Ive actually just gone back to a 600 supersport after 3 years on a couple 1000cc Superbikes. I for one don’t understand why the supersport has died there great bikes for the road imo getting them screaming 😱 their bits off banging them up/down through the gears such great fun. More stuff like this would be awesome lads well done 👍🏻

Had a Daytona 675R for a few years - a truly special bike with a really characterful engine and exceptional poise, noise and handling.
Sadly, you’ve also hit the nail on the head why the 600’s have died out - they’re hard work during ‘normal’ road riding conditions, they’re uncomfortable for more than 20 minutes and you have to thrash them to wake them up, which puts you at risk on the public highway. 5% of the time you won’t want to be on anything else, the other 95% of the time the lack of compromise just isn’t worth it.
My 675R was replaced by an 1199, just a special but actually far easier to ride around on generally with the bottom end and midrange.

Those road 6's are really good for supersports on the street. You really don't need to put more aggressive tyres on for the road. Love them on my ZX10R. They do everything so well. You can ride like a madman on them aswell so much so that tyres with "more" grip are basically a waste of time and to be honest that's not even how I ride 95% of the time and that's why they are so good, because when you are just cruising you know you aren't wasting away grippy tyres and they will last you alot longer than proper "hypersport" tyres and if the need to increase pace ever comes you are not limited in any way. 10/10 from me.

Came to comments looking for this, i dont know how 75 more cc can be explained as fair. Should've had the Kawasaki 636 than.
600cc 3 cylinder would likely be too slow compared to inline 4 which is why they needed the cc's
