I'm going with the Thetford..... big for me is the height.
Osteo-Arthritis is now a challenge so not needing to crouch as low will be easier.

The only problem with the Thetford is the cost. Its almost twice the cost of the Camco. I do like the height of the Thetford. Having bad knees its always a plus when the toilet isn't 12 inches off the ground. Great review.
I need to make a follow up video to this. I have used both now quite a bit and I can tell you that the Thetford is better designed, easier to dump, more comfortable and has great features. I love the gauges and the toilet paper holder. It unfortunately has a crap flusher. I hate the electric pump. I will be replacing that soon with the manual one. SO the Camco is more sturdy and the flushing is excellent. Other than that though it is just not as good. Is the Thetford worth the extra cost? Not unless you need the floor mount. If that is not needed I would say the Camco is the better buy.

I personally have not had great luck with Thetford products. Some of the internal parts are cheaply made. Had a campa potti that failed in less than a year. Wouldn’t pump...Their customer service is lacking too. Basically a “No longer our problem “ type situation with warranty claims.. so I bought a Camco.

We have the Thetford Curve and love it. The only complaint is the ridiculous cost of the electric flush mechanism. The batteries leaked and ruined mine, and considering the cost it just made sense to buy an entire new toilet and have two cassettes. But I don't need three cassettes and shouldn't feel it is necessary to buy another toilet every time a pump fails. There should also be a pump-type flush conversion available in the U.S..

@@prophetseven728 I saw a replacement hand pump for our toilets available n Europe and/or Oceania a while back, but had no luck acquiring one here. I'm not sure they haven't discontinued it completely these days, but I haven't researched it in a long time. You can buy a replacement electric pump here, but the cost is 80 - 90% of a complete toilet, which is almost robbery.
The best advice I can offer people who own this toilet, is to NEVER store it with batteries in the pump, not even for a little bit. That's what got mine.
Love the new one but dont trust the electric pump to last, if they sold a manual pump version in the US, I'd buy it....Once the pump goes your "shit(er) outta luck"
I am just going to order the manual pump now and have it on hand. I am with you. I don't trust the electric one and even when it works it is pretty weak. Just spits out a small squirt.

NewZona Rides reviews for the sink folks said they were surprised how good (material/ durability)it was for the price, yes great idea to feed the toilet with the sink water though i may put a split valve on the drain (one to the toilet and one to the stteet ) incase the tiolet tank is full when I want to use the sink
I bought the Thedford since you can mount it to the floor with a optional part.
That floor mount is a bit on the flimsy side but it's better than nothing. I would never drive with it full relying on that floor mount in case of an accident.

The Camco has worked perfect in 3 outings for my disabled wife. I really don't have any experience with a porta potty as I'd much rather go and take a "Desert Dump" lol.
I never have had a problem with the Camco either. Works great.
My Curve has not treated me well. Now that you have actually used the curve perhaps an update is order?
My opinion is if you don't need the floor mount of the Curve, then I would go with the Camco.
I have never had a problem with the pump and I never even changed the batteries in the pump. I used it a lot.
All of the ergos of the Curve are better but the pump even when it works is weak. The pump on the Camco can flush a racoon if you needed to in a pinch.
Also of note is I still have the Camco and gave away the Curve.
A big problem with the Thetford is the electric water pump, because when fails, has to be replaced it and the total cost is higher than the cost of a new one. If you check the reviews from Thetford users in amazon you will notice this problem
The Camcos are a lot cheaper than the Thetfords.

I like the camco better because of the manual pump. I wish it had a floor mount available like the thetford. I also wish it had a hose adapter to fit the portable RV travel dump tank Camco sells.
I am beginning to believe the floor mount isn't that useful anyway. It is not a very stour mount at all.
Thought of a small base made from 2x4's..... gotta keep a potty in its place !

I have not made a follow up video yet because it got way to hot here in AZ before I gathered enough info to decide. The bottom line for you now would be. Either one is a good choice. If you don't need a floor mount then you could get away with the cheaper Camco. As far as where to dump. I use mostly vault toilets to dump mine. It only takes one time to realize a flushing toilet in not where you want to dump these. I have used RV dump stations as well. You can also use portable toilets, like J Jons. Anything basically where you can dump it really fast. The shorter the amount of time you have the cap open the better. It is actually no problem to dump at all once you learn this trick.

How reliable is an electric pump when compared to the manual pump? Is the backup plan to just get a cup of water and pour it in there instead? And a spray bottle of some sort? Great video. Thanks for sharing.
I never had any problem with mine electric pump. I have not even changed the batteries yet. I take the batteries out when I am not using it for long periods and I take the whole pump out when I wash the toilet. Yes if the pump did fail you could use a cup of water or spray bottle.

You can buy the pump from Amazon in England. It’s not sold here in the US so I would say might be easier to get a new toilet.
I've been thinking about getting a portable toilet for my van for a while now. I've been using the old trusty method of the bucket with snap on toilet seat. Where do you empty the tank when you need to? I would think it's more easy to dispose of a bag with some kitty litter in a dumpster.
My favorite spot for dumping is a J-John. That is the easiest way. You can just pour them into any regular toilet but if you fill up a 5 gallon tank you will be there a while. Another choice is dump stations. A lot of them have portable toilet dumping. It is easier to get rid of a bag but with a toilet you don't have to do it every time you go. There are positives and negatives to both. We used the bag and go method for a while and decided to try the portable toilet. Now we like this more.

Sure. You just pour water in it and make a flushing sound at the same time.
the Thetford curve electric motor broke on me after 2 seasons of use, the toilet cost me $185 dollars when I tried to get a replacement motor and found out it cost $135 dollars, I threw the whole toilet out, never get a motorize portable again.
The one you got with you is the one that's better. :)

It depends greatly on the person. I get 3 days but I am a heavy user. LOL
Hello there...The "electric flusher" are merely 5 or6 AA batteries under the blue push button to flush. It would just require changing the batteries and wa-la the "electric flusher"' is back !!!!

Great comparison .. how do they compare to compost toilets ?
I have never used a compost toilet mainly because of their cost. They are around 1000. That puts em out of my price range. They need less care and you have less worry about them spilling. Less concern about where to dump as well. The do need to be vented usually with a fan running. I would love to try one but so far no one has offered to send me one.
The short one would be almost like not needing a Squatty Squat stool for better doodie movements and prob holds less bulk to carry to dump haven't watched but
It's still pretty high off the ground and they have the same holding tank capacity at 5 gallons. Time will tell if the Thetford is actually better. I looked on Amazon and there are a lot of people complaining about the electric pump. They make a manual pump for it but it is only sold in England. It is also not cheap at 65.00 shipped to the US. If I like the toilet I plan to order one so I don't have to worry about the electric pump. Why they would even consider and electric pump is beyond me. I think it is a downside and not a good feature. IMO
NewZona Rides finally I got to watch the vid.... my mom would make us on the boat use bags for #2 and make only water in the head... something about weight my dad would have to lift to the dock ..I think it was the ickk factor ... a long as I was told I didn't have to hold it like on long car rides I was good... really didn't like the one time I was told to lean over the back under full sail when he said he wasn't Ganna empty anything.. that's when my mom brought a hospital beD pan JUST INCASE and I remember to this day she said MORTY remember not into the wind ..... aNd he said SYlVIA... do u wanna do this? LOL 😝😜😜😝😵 in NY it just flushed out into the bay.... but florida he got a slap of reality ... though same ick factor if u think about it

Where do you dump? The taller one is comparable in size to a handicap toilet, and it is 150% more comfortable!
I use porta johns when I can. Way easier. If not then I go to a RV dump station. I never use a regular toilet.

Nope and I still have never changed the batteries.

@@cartsquads47 Just a tip. When you wash the toilet. Like if you spray it out with a hose or something just make sure to remove the electronic part of the pump. It's not water proof at all. If you do that it will last a long time.
@@NewZonaRides The pump in this model is notorious for going out. Mine died after the two week long camping trips. I wish I could find the part number for the manual pump.
We got our Camco for $50. The thetford was too much at $190 for us.

@@NewZonaRides Did you review a several of them before you bought the first time? I saw one video that mentioned a vacuum release instead of continuously having to hold down the button when emptying but I can't find it now.
On this video, it seems like you were leaning more towards the Thetford because of the height, the deeper bowl, the easier lid latch release, the floor plate and also because you already had the Camco and decided to get a Thetford. You also chose to get the Thetford 565E with the electric flush even though they have several others including the 565P that has a manual pump. I heard the electric pump stops working pretty often but can be easily converted to a direct replacement manual pump but it's not sold in America and its almost impossible to find except in UK, Germany and Europe. And even if you do find one, they charge 3x what its worth and they may still decide not to ship it. But I'm about to get the Thetford myself and take a risk on the Electric pump.

I don't blame you. I kept my Camco and got rid of the Thetford. Same reasons.

Why would you just talk about the features and not SHOW them being used? D: (and no, I don't mean pooping and peeing on-camera)
I can throw a leg over and get busy if want. LOL
Perhaps next go around you could script some of what you want to say beforehand. That way you won’t be hesitating or at a loss for words and descriptors when describing the toilets functions, parts and pieces. It was an ok review but it was painfully obvious that the Camco toilet’s valve and the Thetford’s toilet paper holder both extend outwards by the same distance roughly. No need to mention the Camco requires more side clearance as they’re both the same.
All of these are designed to simulate a house flush toilet. Wrong approach. A portable toilet should be designed as a dry system where the waste is collected in an absorbent dry bag that is then folded and discarded. No water no mess, just some minor chemicals to control the odors in a dry throw away bag. I have built my own in this manner and works just fine.
That is just your opinion. If that works for you great! Most people who are interested in a chemical toilet like this don't want to crap in a bag. That includes me.
