Eboni, I agree 1000% with every single word you said. We as a people need to stop getting hurt "feelings" over some damn words especially when those words are coming from a real one and and rooted in love and best intentions. I admittedly haven't watched much of Eboni's content (and I need to change that!), but just from what I've watched thus far she's 100% and owns what she says...and I get down with people like that. Great interview and like many have said, a much needed conversation.

‼️ eboni k Williams is CORRECT. I'mma put my business on front Street I only make $20 an hour and I agree with everything this woman is saying. Y'all dudes are weak. Just because you're a nice person someone is supposed to take you in no matter your conditions ⁉️ stop acting like y'all would date a homeless nice person. People have a right to their standards. When you're trying to be an entrepreneur you are advised by experts to surround yourself around alike individuals. You don't think it's extremely important/necessary for that alike individual to be your sexual/life partner. If a woman told me I have to get my bread up before being in her life I wouldn't be mad. Just like I wouldn't expect a homeless woman to be mad at me if I tell her she has to upgrade her life if she wants to be with me. Y'all are weak and emotional.

when eboni started mentioning statistics I FELT THAT. that’s what drove her point home for me. it’s about mindset. the cards been stacked against us. now we have google and we have social media. the opportunity to think outside the box is THERE. the opportunity to maximize your skill set is THERE.
we have opportunities that other generations didn’t. knowledge is democratized bc of the internet, and knowledge is POWER. parents should keep expecting greatness from their kids without putting undue pressure on them. my parents didn’t play around about that and it was the discipline I NEEDED. i know my talented a$$ can’t work certain minimum wage jobs bc i care *more* about maximizing my skill set.
i know there are systemic issues we’re still dealing w as a community, but it shouldn’t be an excuse for community-wide complacency.

Most people work average jobs and there’s nothing wrong with wanting more for yourself and we should want more for ourselves. Most men would go after a “10” before going after an “average” woman. That’s the nature of humans.

Eboni is about 40 years old and her resume speaks for itself. She wants to build a life with someone who has accomplished more in life.

I agree 100% with what she is saying. I say this all the time, the need for skills & certifications is essential. The only problem I have, it is assumed that Black Americans are okay with kids getting c’s & d’s in school; then, going to college and not excelling. Absolutely no way have I ever been okay with that, and it’s in poor taste, to think that most of us are okay with it. Life is like a circle: church, family, community, and education. All facets are important and must be aligned. When one is off, it affects the other. Not saying, there won’t be much success, but it’ll be harder to attain. For instance, Eboni comes from a single parent household; yet, her family life didn’t stop her from achieving anything. The biggest attainment out of the four is education. There won’t be much skill set without it. Not only just education, but people need to UNDERSTAND the importance of it, and understand WHY it’s needed or conceptualism. It’s like learning math. It would be hard to learn the different lessons of math, without learning the concepts first. Some people may not know the importance of understanding why skill sets are needed.

I agree with DJ Envy’s sentiment. The snippet was probably taken out of context but like he said, people were offended by it. And to all the people saying they agree with her, ownership doesn’t relieve you from mediocrity. It’s an internal thing. Mrs. Vanzant’s whole point was about searching inside. At the end of your life, what would have mattered most; your salary and material possessions or your character? All of our salaries, small or large, can be gone tomorrow. That doesn’t mean be complacent. It means remember what’s most important!
I would say both sides made for a balanced conversation but Eboni seemed defensive most of the time. Like the other co-host said, “she didn’t stand 10 toes down”. She used the statistics that blacks died at a disproportionate rate to other groups during COVID because of our exposure as essential workers as a way to support her point but it just seemed like she was moving the goal post. None of that had anything to do with the broader narrative of her interview with Mrs. Vanzant. Like DJ Envy said, whether you meant to or not….you did offend the backbone of the US economy. Not Lawyers, doctors and accountants, but average workers, small businesses and blue collar workers, militia workers make it possible for her to “advocate” as she claimed. I was personally offended by the narrative notwithstanding how sensational it was.

What I got from Eboni is that many in the black community have the potential to maximize their skill set and go beyond what they’re willing to do at this moment. Unfortunately, many settle for average because it’s “good enough” but what we need to continue building is exceptionalism. She’s talking to the ones who knowingly do not want greater for themselves because they’re stuck under the ceiling of insecurity, white supremacy/“the white man is keeping me down”, and just pure laziness. But the part where we settle for “average” has been primed in our minds, and for some reason we accept that if we get crumbs, we are doing more than what other black people are able to do. We are capable of more fam and we should do everything in our power to break the ceilings in our mind to ascend to something greater.
Instead of settling for driving a bus, think about owning your own company one day. Instead of settling for manager of a store, aspire to manage a district and more.
This is all about the growth mindset. We can’t have growth if we continue to make excuses for not being successful. That’s not what our ancestors did during the civil rights era. They worked their asses off for a greater future FOR US! Communities like Black Wall Street were created by them. The goal of civil rights was so that we can rebuild that again without it being burned to the ground without repercussions. We need to take full advantage of every window of opportunity to excel and build greater for us.

I want to say this: I was a school bus driver. For those of you who don't know; school bus drivers have to obtain a CDL. That is a commercial driver's license. This license is issued by the Department of Transportation from whatever state you live in. A school bus driver has to know all 200 parts of and the functionality of their bus and demonstrate this knowledge in a written and professional driver's test. You have to learn how to drive what is called a flat nose bus and a bus with a nose. As well as an automatic bus vs. An air brake bus. If you cannot demonstrate your knowledge or that you can operate this vehicle safely then you cannot obtain a Class B driver's license. A class B Is a step down from a class A which truckers have to operate their rigs. Class B gives the driver the authority to operate all passenger vehicles, additionally a class B also has school bus clearance. In being a school bus driver you have to have customer service skills, ability to focus, and master distracted driving, maintain safety on and off the bus, pupil management, interpersonal skills, as well as minor mechanical skills. You also have to know how to articulate yourself across radio platforms and you also participate in Transportation boards and trainings. Every 6 years you have to re-cerify. Being a bus driver is not a joke. It is not a position that involves dumb or unskilled people. Having a class B has always allowed me to drive for whatever company I wanted to. As a bus driver my salary was between $40,00]-$65,00 a year. So for people that keep thinking being a school bus driver is a step down....educate yourself. I want to add the money I just said I made, I made it on a PART TIME schedule. So again....educate yourself

A lot of black people are starting from such a place of disadvantage that the best thing they can do is work their asses off so that they can pass the baton to their children; so their children actually get a fair shot. We grow by operating as a community, not just thinking about what is best for us as individuals and optimizing our individual potential. Just like on a basketball team, it's not for everyone to score. Sometimes you need to set a screen. Did you know?
People interested in words always point out that mediocrity doesn't mean quite what its main root would indicate: Why doesn't it describe something that's right in the middle of the pack, exactly what you would expect? Instead the words mediocrity and mediocre always suggest disappointment. A mediocre play is one you wish you hadn't wasted an evening on, and the mediocre actor in it should probably find another profession. A person can even be called a mediocrity, though it isn't very nice and you'd never do it to his face.
