I enjoy her strength and find her very motivational but I agree with you, not everyone has the drive, the circumstances or the ability to gain success. Hard work does not automatically reward that, for example I work extremely hard since I was 15, I am now 45 I have never been successful, I have never had wealth, my spouse(s) through out my life (males) have always made 3 to 5 times more than me, even though I'm considered a "professional", and if I was single I would be living on the poverty line.
How do you know how strong or capable someone is unless you give them the opportunity to find it out, when people see others have faith in them it gives them the incentive to create their own destiny.

There is a Buddhist phrase or teaching, I believe, that says holding on to rage and hate is like holding onto a hot rock, waiting to throw it at the person or thing that you hate or are angry at. Holding onto it, the longer you do, it harms you , it burns you, and it does nothing to the person you're hating or angry at. And eventually, when the perfect opportunity to throw it comes along, it's not hot anymore and your hand is so scarred and in so much pain that you are likely to miss. I've always loved that one. I have completely misunderstood Russell over the years and he's made me realize that putting people in a 'left-wing' or 'right-wing' category is not only simplistic and ignorant but extremely unhelpful for our society. She has some great points and is clearly highly intelligent, but i think one of the reasons she gets so much negative backlash is because she goes beyond confidence into arrogance fairly often. I am literally shocked to find out Russell is this cerebral and well spoken. Candace is a great woman who overcame so much. Very interesting to hear this conversation and learn about things I otherwise would never consider. Thank you both for this great point of view.
If you ask her, she overcame nothing or at least nothing that was because of being born black. I think it's great that she doesn't want to be seen as a victim and on an individual basis many black folks have overcome their struggles in life and are longer victims of the circumstances they were born into, however it is her denial of the fact that blacks as an ethnic group are largely still victims of the lingering consequences of having been slaves and considered the lowest of the low. The fact that she had to overcome anything says she was a victim of what she had to overcome and it was because she was born into a black family. This is typical, they fight tooth and nail to get where they are and make sure everyone knows it, but then when the next guy says there is still a struggle for blacks, its him being racist. She lives in her own reality. And her narrative has changed since Trump. She says whatever those she thinks is winning want to hear. Funny enough, I took a deep test to find out where I stand politically...I have never BEEN political, and never was, pre-Trump, and I always thought I was a conservative. I'm not, according to the test. According to it, I qualify as a "left-leaning libertarian." I don't see that, really, but there are things that I believe in that are not in our present fabric. I believe that your ENTIRE education, even throughout college, should be free. Not paid for by the public, JUST FREE. That's not socialistic, that's common sense. Candace speaks of ensuring everyone has an equal chance at success, and that would be one way to ensure that happening.

I used to work for an African American doctor from a poor family who worked and put himself through the university and bought a million dollar home. I told my children if he did it so can they. I'm Puerto Rican. My son got his bachelor's in accounting and is now living the life. I never gave them a victim mentality. I always let them know they are smart and intelligent. Humm being older than both of you and growing up with no parents and a drug/alcohol family background. From the age of 2yrs I remember all that happened. I went to a foster home. I was 2. I don't remember anything before that, but I remember entering that house and everything thereafter. I never knew my mother and my father would visit me 5 times from my age of 9 til 16 when he suddenly died. I left my home town at 18 when the system released me. I grew up in a strange world of mental anguish and being denied when others got favor. Let me explain this I grew up in a foster home where I was a small means of support for a family that needed to make ends meet for their children and their mortgage. I suffered no physical abuse. They were not bad people they were just making ends meet through the check they got for keeping a foster child. And I lived in a nice neighborhood. But I was ALWAYS on the outside looking in. I was small, extremely thin and always depressed. Yes they fed me but I never had much of an appetite. I also was not smart. I grew up at the end of the illegitimate era and the stigma that comes with that. I watched for the 16yrs I was in that foster home all the favor children received from their parents in the neighborhood and didn't really appreciate it. I had to fight envy, jealousy, hate and despair from an early age. I was treated like a nobody and given no love. I was just there. I was often told " you'll be just like your parents." That statement confused me cause I didn't know my parents. If I had any talent or wanted to learn something to better myself for the future it was ignored at home and at school. Everyone knew I was an orphan and no one cared. I was just there. I saw so much, I learned so much that made me angry as I grew up. But I had faith, I had GOD. Eventually I took the negative and turned it positive through GOD's guidance and learned how to survive and be stronger for myself by the time I was 27 and far away from where I grew up. Coming off of homelessness then welfare. To go to job training and getting a job which I worked for 28yrs. It was the anger and being denied and being told what I would be that drove me to finally change my life. Never liked drugs or alcohol thank GOD. And when I dumped going no where people out of my life I finally went somewhere.

I’ve only watched half of the podcast at this point but, I believe in the power of the individual but it took me years to find my own strength. I became unemployed when my kids were young and I started receiving food stamps. For several years I was employed on and off always ending up back on government assistance. It wasn’t until a new government policy threatened to revoked my ability to renew my food stamps unless I actively sought gainful employment. The requirements were similar to those of unemployment where I had to provide the contact information where I applied for jobs and the outlets I used to do so. It was a full time job seeking a job. It was such a successful program that I actually found employment and have been off government assistance ever since. With that said, had I not been forced into it, I would not have believed I could do it. I did need the government help, but I become dependent on it and developed a mindset that I wouldn’t be able to survive without it. It was a necessity, but it needed to be a limited time frame for me.

His "compassion" is not feasible. Not only is it not feasible, but he isn't doing it himself. How many people go feed hungry people around them before or even after they eat? How does he live frugally to give any unnecessary money to people in need? What Candace is talking about is true compassion. True compassion is telling the truth, incentivizing parents to stay together, incentivizing working, etc.
@@JacksonCampbell you’re misunderstanding compassion and why it is important. Compassion means to “suffer with”, and understanding helps too. It is possible to have compassion for people (Candace most definitely does not have compassion, she has too much judgment) and not give them what they think they want. Can I have compassion for my toddler when she struggles to deal with her disappointment when I tell her “no” to candy instead of dinner? I can. That doesn’t mean I give her candy. There is a middle ground. There is a true difference between compassion and enabling, and it seems like many people don’t understand what it is. Much easier to throw money (especially other peoples money) at a problem, than to dig down into it, genuinely understand it, and correctly apply solutions. That is hard and the government is just not equipped for such a job.

Having compassion is usually not just a thought, but usually an action towards helping them. Merriam Webster defines it as, "sympathetic consciousness of others' distress together with a desire to alleviate it." There's hardly a better description of what Candace does. She understands the issue and is doing all she can to get rid of it while informing others.

I agree that he truly listens to guests in an attempt to truly understand them. Which is good. But at a certain point you have to push back harder especially with the guests like Candace Owens who will not be polite, who will talk over you and spew factually incorrect talking point after factually incorrect talking point. It's very clear he is genuinely curious which gives him the ability to ask great questions and it makes for amazing podcasts.
Candace is too smart and strong that she lacks empathy. She doesn’t understand that not everyone can be smart, mentally strong, driven and solve their own problems like her, not everyone have parents and community that can guide or support them. I do agree with her that anyone who works hard can improve their life but at the same time those who are in the lower rung of society are working hard but their earnings cannot get them out of poverty or afford them better opportunities.

I enjoy her strength and find her very motivational but I agree with you, not everyone has the drive, the circumstances or the ability to gain success. Hard work does not automatically reward that, for example I work extremely hard since I was 15, I am now 45 I have never been successful, I have never had wealth, my spouse(s) through out my life (males) have always made 3 to 5 times more than me, even though I'm considered a "professional", and if I was single I would be living on the poverty line.
How do you know how strong or capable someone is unless you give them the opportunity to find it out, when people see others have faith in them it gives them the incentive to create their own destiny.

Last yr. My Husband went thru Tonsil Cancer. And My Very 1st Best friend , went thru cancer ,same time as My husband . She also had Cancer ,and I lost My Very Best friend , She was Amazing . Conversational debate opens the door to first, state your opinion not tell the adversary they are wrong. Secondly, to find common ground and possibly change the view of your opponent. Then leave the debate still friends. That no longer exists in most people and definitely has no existence in politics!

There is a Buddhist phrase or teaching, I believe, that says holding on to rage and hate is like holding onto a hot rock, waiting to throw it at the person or thing that you hate or are angry at. Holding onto it, the longer you do, it harms you , it burns you, and it does nothing to the person you're hating or angry at. And eventually, when the perfect opportunity to throw it comes along, it's not hot anymore and your hand is so scarred and in so much pain that you are likely to miss.

Eric Dively First off she’s not a independent. She’s a self identifying conservative who is a avid Trump supporter who is a member of the RNC. Candace doesn’t have any original thoughts of her own. I have completely misunderstood Russell over the years and he's made me realize that putting people in a 'left-wing' or 'right-wing' category is not only simplistic and ignorant but extremely unhelpful for our society.
Although I am conservative-leaning, it's refreshing to hear Russell's perspective on politics and life in general. I think we could all do with branching outside of our social media echo-chambers to listen to other perspectives.

I must say I disagree, people like Candace Owens should not be platformed at all. She's a toxic hack financed and motivated to promote an agenda. For all her projection, it is her side that have no ideas or prescriptions to offer, indeed most of the biggest issues they deny or flat out ignore - furthermore, as we've seen so much these last few years, their ideology is so toxic and impossible to sell that they have to literally appropriate Leftist tradition and positions, cynically repackaging and redirecting it in some way to be "Conservative positions". She has some great points and is clearly highly intelligent, but i think one of the reasons she gets so much negative backlash is because she goes beyond confidence into arrogance fairly often. I am literally shocked to find out Russell is this cerebral and well spoken. Candace is a great woman who overcame so much. Very interesting to hear this conversation and learn about things I otherwise would never consider. Thank you both for this great point of view.
If you ask her, she overcame nothing or at least nothing that was because of being born black. I think it's great that she doesn't want to be seen as a victim and on an individual basis many black folks have overcome their struggles in life and are longer victims of the circumstances they were born into, however it is her denial of the fact that blacks as an ethnic group are largely still victims of the lingering consequences of having been slaves and considered the lowest of the low. The fact that she had to overcome anything says she was a victim of what she had to overcome and it was because she was born into a black family. This is typical, they fight tooth and nail to get where they are and make sure everyone knows it, but then when the next guy says there is still a struggle for blacks, its him being racist. She lives in her own reality. And her narrative has changed since Trump. She says whatever those she thinks is winning want to hear. I think she hates Black people she hates her self and she is typical of every sellout that has ever existed. If I made it, made it through struggles and now it no longer exists for me then it simply doesn't exist for anyone. It is elitest and willfully ignorant.

Funny enough, I took a deep test to find out where I stand politically...I have never BEEN political, and never was, pre-Trump, and I always thought I was a conservative. I'm not, according to the test. According to it, I qualify as a "left-leaning libertarian." I don't see that, really, but there are things that I believe in that are not in our present fabric. I believe that your ENTIRE education, even throughout college, should be free. Not paid for by the public, JUST FREE. That's not socialistic, that's common sense. Candace speaks of ensuring everyone has an equal chance at success, and that would be one way to ensure that happening.

I used to work for an African American doctor from a poor family who worked and put himself through the university and bought a million dollar home. I told my children if he did it so can they. I'm Puerto Rican. My son got his bachelor's in accounting and is now living the life. I never gave them a victim mentality. I always let them know they are smart and intelligent. They can do anything. I say to mothers encourage your children. If you didn't make it your children can. I'm 61 years old and I can say she is right about the welfare problem. One generation begets another generation in welfare. I've seen it. Mother, daughter, grand daughter and even sons on welfare. 4 generation in a family on welfare. I blame that on past politicians. That has caused a breakdown of neighborhoods, cities, communities, family.

Humm being older than both of you and growing up with no parents and a drug/alcohol family background. From the age of 2yrs I remember all that happened. I went to a foster home. I was 2. I don't remember anything before that, but I remember entering that house and everything thereafter.
I never knew my mother and my father would visit me 5 times from my age of 9 til 16 when he suddenly died. I left my home town at 18 when the system released me.
I grew up in a strange world of mental anguish and being denied when others got favor. Let me explain this I grew up in a foster home where I was a small means of support for a family that needed to make ends meet for their children and their mortgage. I suffered no physical abuse. They were not bad people they were just making ends meet through the check they got for keeping a foster child.
And I lived in a nice neighborhood. But I was ALWAYS on the outside looking in. I was small, extremely thin and always depressed. Yes they fed me but I never had much of an appetite. I also was not smart. I grew up at the end of the illegitimate era and the stigma that comes with that. I watched for the 16yrs I was in that foster home all the favor children received from their parents in the neighborhood and didn't really appreciate it. I had to fight envy, jealousy, hate and despair from an early age. I was treated like a nobody and given no love. I was just there. I was often told " you'll be just like your parents." That statement confused me cause I didn't know my parents. If I had any talent or wanted to learn something to better myself for the future it was ignored at home and at school.
Everyone knew I was an orphan and no one cared.
I was just there.
I saw so much, I learned so much that made me angry as I grew up. But I had faith, I had GOD. Eventually I took the negative and turned it positive through GOD's guidance and learned how to survive and be stronger for myself by the time I was 27 and far away from where I grew up. Coming off of homelessness then welfare. To go to job training and getting a job which I worked for 28yrs. It was the anger and being denied and being told what I would be that drove me to finally change my life. Never liked drugs or alcohol thank GOD. And when I dumped going no where people out of my life I finally went somewhere.

I’ve only watched half of the podcast at this point but, I believe in the power of the individual but it took me years to find my own strength. I became unemployed when my kids were young and I started receiving food stamps. For several years I was employed on and off always ending up back on government assistance. It wasn’t until a new government policy threatened to revoked my ability to renew my food stamps unless I actively sought gainful employment. The requirements were similar to those of unemployment where I had to provide the contact information where I applied for jobs and the outlets I used to do so. It was a full time job seeking a job. It was such a successful program that I actually found employment and have been off government assistance ever since. With that said, had I not been forced into it, I would not have believed I could do it. I did need the government help, but I become dependent on it and developed a mindset that I wouldn’t be able to survive without it. It was a necessity, but it needed to be a limited time frame for me.
One hates big government, one hates big business... maybe the "big" is the problem? As companies and states become more bureaucratic and strict they both are increasingly disconnected from the actual people.
TBH its hard to tell them apart at this stage.

His "compassion" is not feasible. Not only is it not feasible, but he isn't doing it himself. How many people go feed hungry people around them before or even after they eat? How does he live frugally to give any unnecessary money to people in need? What Candace is talking about is true compassion. True compassion is telling the truth, incentivizing parents to stay together, incentivizing working, etc.

It is possible to have compassion for people (Candace most definitely does not have compassion, she has too much judgment) and not give them what they think they want.

There is a middle ground. There is a true difference between compassion and enabling, and it seems like many people don’t understand what it is.
Much easier to throw money (especially other peoples money) at a problem, than to dig down into it, genuinely understand it, and correctly apply solutions. That is hard and the government is just not equipped for such a job.

Having compassion is usually not just a thought, but usually an action towards helping them. Merriam Webster defines it as, "sympathetic consciousness of others' distress together with a desire to alleviate it." There's hardly a better description of what Candace does. She understands the issue and is doing all she can to get rid of it while informing others.

@@lostandfound5145 I gave you the definition of compassion. When you have compassion on someone, you help them. Compassion International goes to hurting kids and families and doesn't hurt with them; they feed them, train them, and help them to thrive.
Russell often teaches a masterclass in a lost art. It's the lost art of having a discussion with people you disagree with, without hating them. Without being so scared of offense you refuse to state what you honestly believe. Thanks Russell
@Jax Teller Well yes, a huge segment of the population these days just want the opposing side of an argument just shut down and not to be able to be heard.
This is why conservative speakers are run off of college campuses quite a bit. Clearly, Russell and Candace both disagree on many things, but each doesn't try to shout down or talk over the other. Healthy conversation. The last part of your post says it all.
