Back in 1930s, price of a three bed house in Lonon including all the purchase costs was around £850.
Seventy years later, by the turn of the century, the same house costs £600,000. This means, the house prices have gone up by a staggering 700 times, while the wages have gone up by barely 100 times.
This explains the real cause of children's poverty. Period.

And then you consider that rent payment doesn't count towards a persons so called "credit rating" even after 10/15/20 years. ❤🌻🍀Life is precious friend. People need to learn a whole lot more of self-help skills. Mothers need to nurse their babies, and learn how to make their own babyfoods at home. The adults need to grow victory gardens, food needs to be home cooked, simple foods made from simple ingredients. Foraging is a very precious skill, certainly worth learning. Any little jobs that bring some money in, are worth doing. Relatives and family need to stick together, and help each other. Friends need to help friends, and then folks if you really do need help find the food pantries, better than starving, that's for sure.

I have sympathy with people struggling, I really do. But, it's limited when people with 4 kids are complaining. Why did you have 4 kids in the first place if you cant afford them? If you've got no money why are you starting a family and bringing a child into the world in poverty, or having more kids when you're already struggling with 2 or 3 kids? That sounds harsh but it's true. Having kids is a privilege, not a right.
The media narrative never raises this question, ever. Why? Because they're too scared of upsetting people who don't take responsibility for their own choices.. They never explore the premise that if you don't have any money, don't have more kids. Simple. Harsh reality deserves harsh truth.

The answer to your comment is simple: it is not right to punish those 4 children because of their parents. They are born and it is too late. The state must help them so that they receive a good education and are healthy.
Note that the video is also talking about other use cases where a couple with one child got separated after their child was born. It is difficult to predict separation and people's circumstances can change. They could lose their job and fall into poverty later in their life.
I hope my comment will help you to understand that each family's situation is specific and you should not make generalities from one use case.

People don’t choose to be in poverty they’re fall into poverty from uncontrolled circumstances. There’s families who’s parents were in employment then lost their job through a collapsing economy and redundancy.
For example, if we go into another covid lockdown because of the Omicron variant. How many pubs, bars, restaurants and cafes will close down because of the lack of customers?

I understand that people can be hit by uncontrolled circumstances but how many kids they have is in their control. It is more expensive to support three children than two, it is more expensive to support two children than one. Mathematics is quite simple here, everyone should understand. If someone's financial situation is so fragile that they live paycheck or two from falling into poverty and don't have let's say six month emergency fund (the more the better), then I have a legitimate question - Why they decided to become parents if their situation is so unstable? My brother works for a UK food charity. When he began a few years ago it was small, and he put in just a few hours each day. Now he simply cannot work hard enough, and he has complained of complete exhaustion. The situation is terrifying. Why? I have pondered this at length.
Part of the reason seems to be that the political structure of the UK is obsolescent, and it fuels polarisation. The first-past-the-post system means that a political party can have a clear majority in the UK Parliament without having the confidence of most voters. There is rarely any need for horse-trading and compromise. A party with a majority can implement strong policies that aid one part of society in the short term, while damaging another. The system encourages infantile jibes, jeering, catcalls, and insults. It is often impossible to accept that the MPs involved hold degrees from the UK's top universities; they sound so damn supercilious, self-satisfied, arrogant, and downright bloody stupid.
The politics of the House of Commons has every appearance of being egocentric, and driven by a "winner-takes-all" mentality. Indeed, the desire to be the "king of the castle" often seems to obscure the fact that Parliament exists to help ordinary British citizens. (Yes, it actually does!) People such as Jacob Rees-Mogg often do not seem to comprehend why they are there; the electorate and their pressing needs seem to be an irrelevancy compared with the need to feed the over-inflated ego.
The cobwebbed House of Lords is ridiculously archaic. 751 unelected members for 68 million people?! Appearance fees? Food and drink paid for by taxpayers? The US Senate has 100 elected members for a population 5 times as big, and US senators know that being a senator is their job, not just a pastime for which they receive a daily fee greater than the amount received by a poverty-stricken family of 4 to survive for a week! Being granted political power on the basis of "blue blood" is not just an affront to everyone else, it is an obscenity. Aristocracy and royalty are obsolescent, fuddy-dud anachronisms that must GO!
When interacting online I am always struck by the number of UK citizens who appear to be very badly educated and very badly informed. (I attended local government schools, by the way.) I have not yet interacted with a Brexiteer who has at least a basic grasp on economics, and one would assume that every school-leaver would know these principles. The extents of illiteracy and innumeracy are shocking. German school-leavers are (on average) streaks ahead of their British counterparts. Many young Germans have much better English than their British counterparts. They are also much more positive people, with much greater social maturity, and possess the kind of level-headed self-confidence that somany British youngsters lack. Indeed, Brexit itself can be seen to be a manifestation of a deep-seated lack of self-confidence: an inability to engage with strangers to sort out mutual issues to the benefit of all, in favour of withdrawing from the world and turning inwards, like a desperately shy and gauche teenager.
Apart from anything else, I believe the UK's current stagnant political system has fed nationalism in Wales, Northern Ireland, and Scotland, where people have not seen any closure of the social gulf engendered by the system. The failure of the UK to wake up, grow up, and sweep away its appallingly archaic politico-socio-economic system will lead to the end of the UK. WAKE UP!

@Silvestre Lockdown was merely the push over the edge! The UK has been appallingly divided for decades; indeed, the UK has never overcome the extraordinarily stratified society bequeathed by the Victorians. Politicians blurt endless, fatuous claptrap about "British" values and rebuilding a great nation, but the reality is different. Many Danish, German, and Dutch children have much better English than British children of the same age, and better mathematics, too! In the UK I witnessed or experienced an amazing number of criminal incidents, all perpetrated by young, lost, purposeless hoodlums. The UK has a socio-economic gulf that limits fair pay, decent housing, and good schools. My parents, brother, and myself have all had to struggle for months, sometimes years to effect the simplest transactions, such as transferring bank accounts, closing gas accounts, and opening new utilities accounts! SUCH SHOCKINGLY BAD, ILLITERATE, TARDY SERVICE, COUPLED WITH ALL THE VANDALISM, RACISM, SMASH-AND-GRABS, AND ASSAULTS* (!) OF WHICH I AM AWARE, MAKES IT 100% CLEAR THAT THE UNITED KINGDOM IS ON THE VERGE OF BECOMING A BACKWARD THIRD WORLD DUMP. GERMAN AND DUTCH SCHOOL-LEAVERS FROM POOR BACKGROUNDS ARE WAY AHEAD OF THEIR BRITISH COUNTERPARTS. The UK has pathetically low social mobility and social cohesion. I DON'T THINK THAT BRITISH POLITICIANS APPRECIATE JUST WHAT A BACKWARD, INWARD-LOOKING, AND DEEPLY DIVIDED DUMP THE UK IS BECOMING. Last month, UK food-and-drink exports to the EU plummeted by more than 75% - a direct result of having an electorate and politicians unschooled in basic economic principles. (I have been horrified by the blundering twerps churned out by Oxford and Cambridge Universities to rule Britain for decades: half-baked bloody nitwits hopelessly lacking in empathy, sympathy, basic socio-economic know-how, and especially the ability to handle foreign relations. I have lived abroad for decades, and the British people just don't seem to realise how jaw-droppingly inept their governments have been in international diplomacy.) *Including unprovoked assaults on my brother (three against one), and a good friend, (British skin-heads wielding bicycle chains).

You make a valid point about the farcical FPTP electoral system. I wish people would wake up to this and realise how undemocratic and unrepresentative it really is. We really do need to change this system!
It's a shame you then politicise your argument with a tired cliché, conflating Brexit voters with a lack of education and comprehension of basic economics. I voted Brexit, I have a degree in Politics and an A Level in Economics. So, it is a little insulting to lump us all together as uneducated morons. Sadly, this is all too common from Remainers :(

I would also add to the argument that has been put forward a feeling I have in regard to the UK. To me theUK both politically, socially and economically has simply become too short termist in terms of approach. Everything is planned according to five year election cycles rather than preparing for the future. This is why infrastructure, education and the economy is failing no long term strategy is in place to foster and develop these. I not long a go noticed when I spoke about language barriers in the UK and how language teaching needs to be improved to improve our relations. I was laughed at and told it was a stupid idea as it would take too long. To me it is the short term nature of decisions that is wrecking the UK with few able to think ahead longer term.

As someone originally from the Netherlands, I think a major issue for the UK is the dire quality of the schools in the country. The whole school system is politicized and the Grammar schools, which were excellent for social mobility, and still are in Europe (NL has such a system, Germany has it, in East Germany they specifically made a point of having them, after they had comprehensive school like education factories under soviet rule) are replaced by low quality education. You need a lot of money to have an education that is comparable with what you get in Europe. If I were in charge, the first thing I'd do is bring back the Grammar schools, especially in the North of the UK, reform the university system, which often offers useless courses and puts young people in terrible debt.
Another issue is the NHS, which seems a religion in this country, but actually offers by far the poorest quality of healthcare in North West Europe. The system is in desperate need of reform, perhaps a sensible privatisation, where poorer families are subsidised to purchase healthcare, like in NL, would work better. This means richer people can pay a bit more into the system, which will help to fund better hospitals and refurbishments that are often badly needed.
But, I also think that people here have to accept that they are on the periphery of Europe. The south of Britain is close enough to Europe to benefit from trade and so on. But the north of the UK is not, and will always be relatively poorer than the rest. What needs to be done is that the lowest level of income is at an acceptable level. I think proper education could be a way out in the long run.
As for your political system, I actually think the idea of having an MP that is accountable to a local area is not a bad thing.

@@91Durktheturk DUW! Mag ik het dan aannemen dat U Nederlands-sprekend bent? Het is een van enkele talen die ik heel goed versta en praat. Nu en dan lees ik Nederlandse (en Vlaamse) kranten om op de hoogte van evenementen te blijven. Education, at all levels, has always been a headache, everywhere. The 1971 British Cohort Study proved that the early years are of extreme importance. Children's abilities diminish if they do not receive adequate attention, stimulation, and instruction when they are very young. Irreversible damage is inflicted by an inferior home environment and poor education by the end of primary school - indeed, even by 7 years old. Children from middle and upper class homes tend to have rich home environments: books, music, videos, computers, and unlimited access to the internet. In such homes parents spend more hours with their children, and family outings to interesting places and holiday trips are more common. Parents tend to be more knowledgeable, better able to help with homework, and more aware of how their children's education will impact their future lives. Children with low income parents often have much less stimulating environments, and often suffer from the lack of the most basic resources, such as a quiet, safe place to study. Home life is often disrupted by alcoholism, drug addiction, and/or domestic violence. The British Cohort Study found that children who initially tested high for basic abilities, gradually slipped backwards relative to their age group if they were members of low income families living in deprived or depressed areas. Children who at first tested low, but who were members of high income families living in affluent areas where a privileged lifestyle is common, gradually rose relative to their age group. Logical reasoning ability, (IQ), for example, rose by up to 15 points for privileged primary school children, and decreased by more or less the same amount among deprived children. Many children who are initially bright, who ought to be able to enroll in Britain's leading "Russell Group" universities, fall through the cracks. Indeed, the situation for bright children in deprived homes and low income areas is terrible. Their lives are "stunted", and many know it. Their frustration plays out in various dreadful ways, which I became aware of when living in Uxbridge. I repeatedly encountered vandalism, car theft and joy riding/car-trashing, and drug addiction when living there in 2000-2. While high school is an issue, by that stage the damage has been done! (I understand why you think that grammar schools provided a good education, but while their academic approach was good for some children, it was rotten for others. If you know something about how children learn the same things in very different ways, you'll understand why. The "11+" was also hated by many people, as it seemed to "pigeonhole" children much too early, casting a long shadow across young lives.) There are different systems of proportional representation. Scotland uses the "de Hondt" system, which allows for both local constituency and regional political representatives, while respecting proportional representation. As someone who has read the details of the "packages" paid to many British directors and top managers, and who has repeatedly and directly witnessed the appalling results of the British socio-economic system, I believe that it simply cannot end too soon!

Why do people have children? I took the decision a long time ago that I could not guarantee that if I had kids that I could always provide for them. Most people don’t think, they just procreate and who suffers? The children. So for the sake of the children stop having children. I pity the children but I feel zero for idiot parents. while it’s a valid thing to consider, it’s not the children’s fault that they were born, so it’s important to provide support for the poor for the sake of the children. Plus in china the one child policy failed it’s people in the long run. Now elderly have very few youth to pre retirement aged people supporting their needs. You have one child, supporting their parents and because of the good health of chinese people, they will likely be supporting their grandparents too, sometimes even great grandparents so it’s not completely madness to have lots of children. And in circumstances like this, you gotta have multiple children just to be sure atleast one of them turns out okay ish. Poverty is more likely to expose your children to the world of drugs and gangs etc and if you loose your only child, you have nothing left. Especially when many loving parents only have their children to live for. If you loose all your children, it’ll probably feel like you lost everything.

@@reylime2991 My comment was about the UK not China. While I understand and agree that a family's circumstances can change because of job loss or illness etc, there are many families here that just pop out children without a thought about how they can afford them and rely on the state. Perhaps it depends on what part of the country you live in as to whether you'll see this happening. It happens where I live. Youngsters have babies so that they can have social housing and all the trimmings from the state.
