NFL 2K5 is one of my favorite video games of all time. I literally played that game all night, creating so many fantasy draft teams. I still own a copy to this day. No football in history can touch it. Although I do like Madden 04 as well.

NFL 2k on Dreamcast was jaw dropping when it came out. Compare it to Gameday 98 to get an idea of what sports videogames looked like before 2k. The animation on 2k was something no game on any genre had really pulled off as far as being lifelike at the time.

Vision cone was both innovative and well implemented. I will never understand why people hated it. It actually added an extra layer of skill. You could actually "look off" the defender on online.
Because your thumbs won't ever match the reflexes of your eyes so just the mechanics of it was going to be tough for anybody to get used to. Now if they did that in 2023 now that we have eye tracking technology, if you wore some glasses or vr headset or used your playstation/xbox camera to track your eyes it would be brilliant.
I just played NFL 2K5 on the PS2 this afternoon. That’s my top pick an go to football game of choice. It still looks good but better than that, it just feels right. No other way to describe it. The ESPN license was used better there than anywhere. My 2nd pick would be NFL Blitz. Too much fun and memories there. The 3rd pick would be the original Tecmo Bowl. I grew up with that one. It wouldn’t leave my NES for months at a time.
Madden 07 and 05 were the funnest for me. The franchise mode had so much depth compared to now. You were allowed to create stadiums for your franchise, create new uniforms, and rename the team. Thing I miss the most is creating my own plays and use them in game. I still To this day don’t understand why they removed that feature.
@America not true at all. It depends on the game. Go look at the size of Madden in your systems app manager. Madden is 43 GB. For comparison, NBA2K19 is 70GB. Forza 4 is 59 GB and Gears 4 on my XBONE reads 100GB. It has nothing to do with space. EA is just greedy and lazy af. Think about it. The offline $60 copy of Madden comes with 32 teams, play now mode, franchise mode and Longshot(almost forgot lol). THATS IT!!!!!No historic teams. No All Madden teams. No Mini Camp. No situational setup. No Superstar mode. Meanwhile, 2K19 offline for the same $60 comes with classic teams and all time teams. Which in total is like 80+ teams. Plus you can use any team or players in Myleague. There's Play Now, Blacktop, mycareer, myGM, myleague,. That's for just the $60. But then again, even if you look at the online aspect. 2k has a neighborhood in the game that opens up different mini games while Madden just lets you buy cards and build a team, which should already be in the game.
I would imagine they got rid of the create play function so as to not be a tool for the real NFL and exploit opponents easier simulating your authentic playbooks.

Super tecmo III Final addition is my favorite tecmo ! The 2nd was awesome also but hard to find cause it was limited edition . The way you could upgrade your players throughout the season was awesome not to mention picking up studs in free agency at the end of the season

I don't know what it is about NFL 2K5, but every time I see a vid on it, I have to play it. I play it then, 10 min into it, im bored. I think its that i never liked that you have to run side to side to get more speed then straight up field. Thats was always so odd to me. The presentation/half time show I can literally watch all day long.
Front Page Sports Football Pro 96 deserves to be on this list. It was a groundbreaking sim game that allowed customization and online leagues on PC. I will never forget playing it for as long as I live.
Of all the Maddens, I don't think that the 05 version has been surpassed to this day. I have played almost every version of the franchise, and 05 is the most memorable so far. At this point I am definitely done buying video games, but that last Madden that I have is the '16 title, and it is playable. But it is clear to me that Madden gave up evolving and improving a long time ago.

Super tecmo III Final addition is my favorite tecmo ! The 2nd was awesome also but hard to find cause it was limited edition . The way you could upgrade your players throughout the season was awesome not to mention picking up studs in free agency at the end of the season

I was watching this video and was 100% ready to leave a tirade of nasty comments for not having Tecmo on this list, then #1 came up and I was happy with this list! I can remember playing Tecmo with two other friends, we each picked our favorite teams, each put $10 in a pot & pulled an all nighter playing season mode & you only got the money from the pot if you won the Superbowl............good times!!
I did this with my siblings. My sis was the Washington Redskins, My brother the Chicago Bears, I was the Miami Dolphins.. stayed up all night over the Christmas break and just played our season. Awesome memories

Super Tecmo Bowl was 11v11, you can count the players here in the clips. Perhaps the original Tecmo Bowl was 9v9, can't remember. I would honestly play STB over just about any Madden game today. For me, 2k5 is #1

I gave my 06 and 07 Madden away because the fans did not have on team colors anymore. Madden NFL 2005 is my favorite football game for ps2{04 comes in 2nd...I love those cheat codes for 04 Madden}

They should have something similar to MUT for Tecmo Superbowl. Where you could open pack for players and create your own fantasy team to use against other online opponents. This is genius imo, or am I crazy?

If there was any other game at #1 I was ready for a fight lol! Good list. My only change would be swap out Madden o6 for Madden 05. The revolution of the hit stick, for me, was just too great to leave out. Plus you had the Tony Bruno show which I liked.

I don't know what it is about NFL 2K5, but every time I see a vid on it, I have to play it. I play it then, 10 min into it, im bored. I think its that i never liked that you have to run side to side to get more speed then straight up field. Thats was always so odd to me. The presentation/half time show I can literally watch all day long.

Front Page Sports Football Pro 96 deserves to be on this list. It was a groundbreaking sim game that allowed customization and online leagues on PC. I will never forget playing it for as long as I live.

Played 2k5 back then on the Xbox .. had a couple Madden but always went back to 2k5.... Shows how good it really is...
Madden 04, 05, 06 (PS2), 07 (PS2), 08 (PS2), 09, 10, 11, 12, 13 and ESPN NFL 2K5 are my favorite NFL games of all time.
I haven’t played 2k5 but I’ve played madden 05 and that was pretty fun
(NCAA football 14). It’s 2018 and it’s the most important and treasured game I own!

Of all the Maddens, I don't think that the 05 version has been surpassed to this day. I have played almost every version of the franchise, and 05 is the most memorable so far. At this point I am definitely done buying video games, but that last Madden that I have is the '16 title, and it is playable. But it is clear to me that Madden gave up evolving and improving a long time ago.
