  • This was a great location but sadly time has taken its toll on the house & out buildings... still a great Explore & of corse the Mk9 Jaguar!!! Sadly it’s also seen better days but still great none the less!
Cattistock Lodge was owned by a sweet old lady called Margaretta Soulsby (Peggy for short) Back in its day the house was stunning, with 8 gardeners & the head gardener who was lucky enough to live in a small cottage at the back of the property. Peggy also had a house in London owned by her late husband, so Cattistock definitely wasn’t at the top of her list & it started to fall into disrepair when a hole appeared in the roof that wasn’t fixed...
Sadly for Peggy things didn’t work out in London & she was forced to return to her house which was by then was sadly beyond repair. She literally lived in Cattistock whilst it fell down around her. There is a story of her having a friend around, when the ceiling behind them completely collapsed!!
Peggy was so used to bits fallen down she didn’t even bat an eyelid.
She never officially left the house & would often return right up until she died in 2016. Due to the appearance of the house she was often burgled. The central heating eventually gave up as well as other essential homily items... So she used to spend a lot of time with a friend in the village. She sadly died in april 2016 aged 90 of cancer after beating it twice before & is now buried in the towns local cemetery....
This guy has spent a Lot of time in Cattistock & has probably found out more than anyone els about Peggy & her family, I have linked his channel below if you would like to find out more about Peggy & Cattistock Lodge

    Brilliant video. Thank you.
It proves everything we have, including the bodies our souls inhabit, is on loan from nature. Short or long term, she always calls the debt in.
Again, fantastic, if somewhat dangerous work!

What an incredible place........ even in that state of decay it had something romantic and homely about it... I know that sounds strange. I love abandoned, and I try and picture what it may of been from whats left..... when you went in and stood by the left overs of the stairs and panned around it gave you the essence of the size of the place as many of the door ways were still standing....... so go back to 1967,the year of that paper, and that place must of been absolute marvel to visit... the gardens, the big house and of course that Jag, in its prime. Incredible. I am going to watch the other video now as I want to know more about this place so much now.

Check out where I used to live...Glassaugh House in Scotland. My parents found it derelict as usual a farmer had it. Renovated the washrooms and grooms room, circa 15th century and the A frame barn which was attached in the 18th century, this was the hey loft and stables below. That house is called Glassaugh Lodge. But the big house remains derelict to this day. It once had its own station, private area of the beach in nearby Sandend and there is a mausoleum in Fordyce church yard.... The big house, had a game larder, meat larder, lamp room and dairy. Please read up on the history its fascinating and such a shame.

The out buildings would have been, meat larder, dairy...hence the marble. It keeps things cool and easy to store fruits, to be used in the winter.

Its such a shame that there are properties like this, just abandoned after the last owner dies, and with either no family to pass them down to, or family members who can't afford to renovate them or just plain aren't interested. This one needs so much work though, i'd imagine it would scare most people away. That's if its even salvageable, or if its a case of knock it down and start again. It doesn't look like it would take too much effort to knock the rest of it down anyway. In fact i wouldn't want to sneeze too close to the main house, just in case. I could make an amazing home though, especially with the potential of all the outbuildings too, maybe either for buisness purposes, holiday lets, or storage for a car collection. Endless posibilities.
