I just started my very first HAED (I’m going to be 60 this year, what have I done?🤪) and was originally going to just keep the floss on the laminated cards as they were so beautifully shipped 😍 but it’s already getting quite cumbersome (sooo many colors!) I use the Floss Away bags for all my other projects, and you’ve inspired me to stick with what works so I will get busy organizing that project. The grippy lining material on the bottom of the box is genius! (thanks to Pam and you for passing that tip on). Really enjoy your videos. You have a very calm, soothing presence that I appreciate even more so than I did a year or so ago when I first started watching you. Bless you and your family!

Thx for showing us. With as many projects as you work on at any given time, you have a lot of stash! We moved from a home with a full finished basement and I had a place to store my stash. Now I’m limited. I sent a box filled with projects, etc. to Vonna cuz I knew she’d know who to give them to (e.g. women’s shelter, etc.). So now I store mine in two bins cuz we don’t have a basement anymore.
Hi Jannie! Storage is definitely an issue. I think I tend to fill up whatever space I have, and use that as my limiting factor, lol. Down-sizing is a must though, when you have less space. But I am glad that just one or two projects don't take up much space and can work in just about any situation :) Glad you are still able to stitch though.
Thanks for sharing your organization tips. I've been reorganizing my goodies since the end of December. It's a chore but a very necessary one. On a side note, I found my missing magnet in my living room. It was attached to the hammered nail trim on my leather sofa. Completely blended in and hiding until I saw it at the right angel. Had to laugh!! Take care.
Loved seeing how you organize Brenda. I have my DMC in similar bins but your tip to put those rubber sheets in there is brilliant. I am in the process of reorganizing my craft room so will be sure to do that. I also have my overdyes on rings but I love how you throw them in baskets. So much prettier. I also use the “book return” basket system for floss I’m done with. That’s been my saving grace. Hope things are well with you!

I put the rings in the bins because I couldn't think where else to put them, but it has worked out well. Hi!! Basically I just have one magnet strip for each piece I have started but not finished yet. I write the name of the project and the month/year I started it. Then I move them around depending on what I am thinking about or planning. Sometimes I organize them by oldest to newest. Sometimes by large vs small projects. And sometimes by what I want to focus on next. I believe I showed the magnet board and talked more about it in my first video #1 :)
Thank you Brenda, just what I needed. I never thought I would be looking for organising ideas for stitching. I only have 5 projects, but no duplication of thread. I of course have been buying a few charts for later as they say. I find I have this problem, I need to kit them up . I suddenly see a stash starting to build, so before it gets muddled I must label and store. I don't know what happens to us when the bug bites why must I kit up some projects? The urge is so strong.😂 stay safe and well.
Thanks for showing that today! I spent the weekend organizing my stash. Decided to use GoodNotes to create project cards for each project. Your video definitely inspires me to continue on this road. I organized my floss the same way but utilize under the sink organizer drawers. Works out great.

Hi Kat!!! So true, lol! I usually get up the energy to get it all filed every summer when I am off work. But for some reason this year it did not get done!! The next time I am motivated to do it is when I am trying to kit things up for Maynia and can't find anything, lol. I work in an office all day where I am militant about filing the minute it hits my desk, and keeping things organized. But for some reason when I get home I just don't have the energy, lol.
I found your video when I searched Floss A Way bags. I loved seeing your stash and how well organized it is. Your grandfathers chair is priceless! One question: what is the jar at the end? Was it called an “ork” container? Is it filled with leftover thread from projects? Is that something that stitchers do and is there some significance in that? I love jars of buttons, shells etc. Maybe I need one of these too. 😊 Thanks!
Thank You! Yes, stitcher's call them "orts". They are the little bit of threads that you throw away when you are stitching or sewing. I have heard some people say it stands for Old Raggedy Threads. But I have also heard that it comes from a medieval german word that meant "leavings". I don't know why we stitchers like to collect them, lol. Maybe it kind of represents how much stitching we have done. Some people collect them for a year and put them in a clear plastic christmas tree ornament and write the year on it. And other people use them as part of the stuffing of small pillows they make.
Hi Angela!! Yes, we are all well here. I am trying to work up the energy to make a video :) I seem to have less energy in January and February and by the time I get home from work everyday I just want to crash into my stitching chair and stitch, lol.

I bought today plastic pouches. I storage in boxe. In put a non-slip in background. But it doesn't work. It's problematic. All pouches slip each other. Effectively, I must put inside pouches a piece of board for rigidity. Contrary to you, i put my pouches verticaly and not horizontaly. Sewing pouches in fabric it's complicated too. It's not a good solution. It's complicated to find the good solution because we want place, we want practical, we want easy to find flosstube. 🤔
Hello! I so agree, so hard to find something that works well, but is practical :) I ended up putting a piece of thick paper (index card) inside each baggie to keep them rigid, and I wrote the DMC color on each card. Your idea of putting them vertically is a great idea!

Hi Pam!! Yes, ArtisanDesign.com is still in business as far as I know. He is just a one man business, so he is not always around to answer his phone. You can order directly from his website if you are in the states, but if you are outside of the United States, I think you have to catch him on the phone. And he is usually 6-8 weeks out on orders because he just can't keep up with the demand :)
Hi Marjo! I bought them at Costco, they are just metal warehouse type shelving, sometimes called "Bakers Shelves" They are normally about 6 feet tall, but I took the shelf apart and am only using the bottom half.

Probably a stupid question since the other cross stitchers on you tube , haven’t responded nor have I been able to find the answer. I’ve seen people make grids on their material and others have not. What is your thought on the use of grids? Thank you!
Hi Cathy! I'm not Brenda: but gridding or not gridding is just personal preference. Try it out and see if it helps you. There are different ways to grid (using thread, a wash-out fabric pen, or pre-gridded fabrics are all possibilities) but some people really don't like gridding, other people like it for full coverage but can take it or leave it for other projects, etc. There's no real "answer" to yourq uestion, there's just "personal preference". Happy Stitching!

I totally agree with everything Kat said :) I grid on my large full coverage pieces that have a lot of different colors because that is the only way I can keep track of where I am. But gridding is time consuming and tedious for me (totally a personal feeling), so I don't take the time to do it on any other projects. But it definitely is a great tool to help you keep track of where you are, and minimize mistakes.
