newfangled four? no waaAAYYYYY!! For the barbershop newcomers, barbershop normally refers to the style of vocal harmony and is (normally) performed in a men's quartet with a lead, tenor, baritone, and bass. At the end of every arrangement, there is a 'tag' which is kind of like a coda and often has a long high note sung by the lead whilst the other parts carry the rhythm (although tags don't have to be loud and energetic). If you watch barbershop quartets you'll notice that the harmony is mostly based around dominant sevenths, and the person singing the seventh will sing it slightly flat so that it is justly tuned. When sung like this, a 'ringing tone' is created as the pitches interfere to create a harmonic. If you want to watch barbershop then you should probably check out the Barbershop Harmony Society (ruclips.net/user/BarbershopHarmony38). Happy singing!
If this vid gets even one more person to fall in love with the new fangled four than I will be extremely happy And yes I know they broke up but they are my fav comedic singers ever
Every time I listen to pieces I sang years ago, I have a small crisis wondering what hellish arrangement I've stumbled upon before remembering what part I sang.
I just got over the fact that Ryan left the newfangled four and you decide that now is a good time to transcribe Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious? I'm sending you my therapist's bill for the next few weeks, alright?
Normally I'm not a huge fan of Acapella groups like this, but this was really fun to watch. These four fellas are extremely talented and excellent performers
If you think these guys are talented you should check out some of the actual International Champions like the Bluegrass Student Union, The Gas House Gang, and The Boston Common just to name a few.

Call me crazy, but I ended up watching the whole video and only after reading your comment realized that the whole thing was acapella. LOL Kudos to the group for such an outstanding performance.
They're not really regarded for their overwhelming skill in comparison to some other quartets but the Barbershop world will never be the same after them, a shame they're kind of disbanded
@@andrec.fennell9255 same here! It'll be different, but the new baritone seems to be fitting in well. Maybe this year they'll be fifteen people's favorite thing 😉.

I went to school with Jackson (the lead I believe), he was a trumpet player back then. Super nice, multitalented guy. Great job guys, you all sound fantastic!
what's really impressive is how they maintained 4 part harmony when the guy on the left started going sharp at the end - you can hear the offset for just a moment before they all match him perfectly all the way to the end

@@paperheartzz What I mean is that Joey sings Tenor in the Newfangled four quartet, and he knows how to do a dance called the drop while singing the Mary Poppins. Barbershop is normally a style of harmonizing. Men quartet has Lead, Tenor, Baritone and Bass. Women quartet: Lead, Soprano, Mezzo and Alto. Get it?
CORRECTION: the tenor note on bar 19 is probably not an F#, but a harmonically "just" tuning of G natural (flattened a bit from its equal temperament standard) which is commonplace for barbershop 7th chords, since it emphasizes the harmonic series and creates the signature barbershop 'ring'. This is the same thing as how the Bb partial before high C above the staff on the trumpet is much flatter than if you played Bb with the first valve.
