Love these interviews! The conversation about the "11/8" meter made me think about how often Shimomura really plays with odd time in her work, which she's done in just about every series she's worked on, I think. It always seems very effortless, like her melodies just flow right out. For the Kingdom Hearts series, she seems to usually stick to simpler meters--and she's played with syncopation within for rhythmic variety: she's used 5/4 for tracks like "Hollow Bastion", "Night of Fate", and others. I struggle to think of anything in 7 or beyond in KH, but some of her work in [Super Mario RPG] and [Mario & Luigi] does play in those more complicated meters.
I wonder if the 11/8 conversation at 6:33 could have been specifically referring to "Sagat's Theme" from Street Fighter II? (but I think this was composed by Isao Abe)

I recall someone mentioning in a review of Super Mario RPG that Shimomura definitely did use some more complex meters for the music. I think the track he stated as an example of that was Beware the Forest's Mushrooms.

Love Shimomura's work, so it was great getting more insight from how she works! I think her music stands out on Kingdom Hearts, but doesn't steal the spotlight either, so it's like the best of both worlds? Haha
