    It took me a long time to get into TMB's but now I think it is a masterpiece. Truth Ray, Brain in a Bottle and Guess Again are easily as good as anything he ever did with Radiohead.
    I prefer the album version to this, but I have to give him massive credit for performing such a complex song live.

      Graeme Pryce those tracks are amazing but what about Nose Grows Some? I think it really has some powerful lyrics, my favorite from TMB.

    Amazing. Knowing what's going on in his personal life right now really elevates it to a different level. Truly he is speaking from the heart on this performance.

      I don't like to think about the performer's personal life when I listen to songs because I feel it kind of lessens the impact, as everybody's lives are so different. It's too literal for me, especially with an artist like Thom Yorke who's lyrics are often very vague.
      I write music myself and I deliberately try not to be too literal if I can help it unless I am trying to get a particular message across. This song's lyrics are very meaningful to me even though the reasons I relate to them are probably totally different to the real reasons Thom actually wrote them.

      Thm has said plenty of times the songs he writes are never about himself or his life (yet fans never seem to listen).
      Truth Ray is one of those songs with no concrete meaning behind it. Thm simply chose sentences that sound nice and paint a picture together, and specific words that can create an emotional response on the listener. Another thing that reinforces this is that parts of the lyrics are just gibberish (inspired by his personal hero, Michael Stipe). He wants you to hear something different from the next person, so you add your own personal touch to the song as it plays in your head.
      And that's what the "real meaning" is: It's whatever your mind creates.
      This is what Art is. It's not a beautiful object, it's not any object put in a museum, it's not whatever object you call art. Art is not a property of objects. Art is the relationship between a sentient person and a certain object (abstract). There's no Art without the person.
      This is where "artistic expression" comes from; It's when a person expresses the relationship between themselves and an object to other people.
      Thm is giving you the freedom to express yourself with the music. To create something. So don't force yourself to be attached to whatever people say his music means. Instead, find the meaning inside your own soul.

      Tomorrow's Modern Boxes is straight up a mixture of early R.E.M. with Aphex Twin and My Bloody Valentine (Loveless era).

      Just Google 'truth ray thom yorke lyrics' - there are a few sites that have good versions of them that seem pretty perfect now that the album has been out for a while.

    • @trappychan
      @trappychan 7 лет назад +1

      There is no correct lyrics. Many sentences are just gibberish.
      It's surprising that it took Thm so long to finally use gibberish as lyrics in a major way, considering his undying love for Michael Stipe.

    • @GraemePryce1978
      @GraemePryce1978 7 лет назад

      I don't agree. No lyrics are truly gibberish, because there has to be something within the writer that makes them choose those words.
      Plus, there are artists that claim their lyrics don't mean anything because it's too personal for them to explain them or because they want the listener to infer their own meaning. ( bohemian rhapsody by Queen is a good example of both of those sentiments. )
      John Lennon always claimed that the lyrics to I Am The Walrus were nonsense, but if you are local to Liverpool ( I am! ) and know about what the north of England was like in the late 60's, then you can easily see a lot of meaning in them.
