Greetings from The Land of 10,000 LAKES, Minnesota!
Wow, pretty impressed by you watercolor painting and your jewelry!! You are a very talented artist and extremely creative!! BRAVO!!
I have said it before and I will say it again following you on RUclips is as close working with one of the old masters as I will ever be privileged to get in my lifetime so again I thank you. Lots of great tips and info that is practical and easy to use.
It’s good to hear that you find my instruction helpful!!! Thanks for your comment and for watching my video!!!
Your teaching style is wonderful. Thank you so much for sharing your talents and tools with us. Your art is beautiful.
What a great way you have set up your watercolors! I love the separate containers for each color instead of having them next to each other in a small palette where they can get mixed inadvertently. Also love the squirt bottle to add fresh water to your palette so you don't dilute what is on your brush and have it contaminate your clean water container. I had been using a pipette - like your idea better!
Thanks,
Paula in Florida
Hi Paula - These are the things that I do to make watercolor painting easier and organized! Glad you like the ideas. Thanks for watching and for your feedback - I appreciate it! -Ross
Hi Ross, I enjoyed the peek into your studio. Love the hanging tablet idea for reference photos! Take care,
Linsday
Hi Linsday, The thing that I rigged for the tablet lets me float it horizontally and vertically in front of my painting. This helps with large paintings.
Love your videos!!!
realisticart thanks Ross! I love yours too! If you ever want to work on a collaboration project with me let me know!
thefrugalcrafter . Hi Linsday, I think this is a great idea! Lets talk about it.
realisticart I sent you a message through You Tube:)
Thank you for your wonderful videos. You are an excellent teacher.
Ross, Very Cool... Thanks for the "look" inside your BATCAVE!
Thanks for watching!!!
No problem Batman.
Thank you Mr. Barbera I really liked the peek into your studio and process. One of the things that you taught me awhile ago was the use of "salt". But I didn't hear you mention it during the wonderful journey through your tools. I apologize if I missed it. I was working on jewelry. Thank you - Thomas
Salt is not technically a tool, but you are right - I do use it sparingly for some beautiful textural effects. Thanks for your comment and glad you're working hard! -Ross
Thank you for allowing us to visit your studio Ross. I love the paint table being on wheels, the frame you use around the back of your stretching board (mine are too thin and warping :0( and the fact that I saw many lights from many angles to keep shadows at bay. Lots of good practical tips in your video. Many thanks.
Glad that you enjoyed the video Tim! Even though the Homasote in 1/2" thick, a full sheet of 140 will warp it. The rear frame completely eliminates this problem. Thanks for watching!
realisticart Wow - this is an excellent overview about your equipment for watercolour painting which gives suggestions for own considerations.
I am of full hope that there soon is again a bigger flower watercolour of you. Thanks, Ross!
Thanks for watching!!! And I'm in the process of working on another flower painting video. Glad that you found my equipment overview helpful!!!
Wow, I love you ideas and techniques.....you are great and very motivating, I first looked at your rice paper, watercolor earrings, they were so pretty .....
Carol Burnett Hi Carol, Glad that you like my techniques! Thanks for watching!!! Ross

Thank you this was very helpful:)
Ross, I love your watercolor videos. Would you consider posting PDFs of some of your pencil drawings? I'd love to be able to trace them onto watercolor paper (especially the cherry blossom!) and paint along with you. Thank you for sharing your beautiful work.
Thank you so much for sharing your tips; this is so helpful!
Glad you found this helpful Mary! Thanks for watching!
hi Ross, I've really learned quite a bit by watching your tutorials. I did want to ask, I need one of those boards to mount my paintings on and haven't been able to make one. Can you recommend a painting board product so I can purchase?
Thank you for such a detailed and informative video. I am a beginner at watercoloring and I'm so glad I found your channel because you are an excellent teacher. I was intrigued by the fact that you only use the primary colors and mix them to achieve the other colors your project requires. I would really appreciate a video by you on how you mix your primary colors. If not a video, a color mixing chart would be fantastic. This is the next step that I would like to take on my watercolor journey and I would love to see how you do this. I am using student grade watercolors currently, but would like to start mixing colors now and replace them with professional grade as the student grade runs out. Additionally do you recommend a brand of watercolors?
Hi Georgia,
I’m glad that you found my video helpful! I just happen to be working on a color mixing video for watercolor painting, but at this point I’m midstream so it will be more than a month before I post it. It will be detailed, with a heavy dose of color theory.
High quality watercolors are extremely important at any stage of one’s development. I use and recommend to my students Winsor & Newton.
Thanks for watching!
Thank you!!!!
Where do you purchase the squeeze bottle with fine needle?? Love your miniature series!
Ross, I am not familiar with the board you mentioned - the Homasote board...where can it be obtained? Thanks so much for the helpful info...I have watched and re-watched your videos...just amazing and fun!! m.m.
Ross,
I just varnished a piece of wood to stretch my paper on, using the Liquitex Gloss Medium and Varnish as one of the options you suggested in the stretching video.
The one thing i can't find is how long does it need to dry?
How long do you wait after varnishing before you can put wet paper on it?
Ross,
where do you get those squeeze bottles with the needle like point/tubes?
thanks,
great videos
you're a great teacher with a beautiful analytical mind.
Hi,
I purchase the squeeze bottles that you see me use from the online jewelry supply shop contenti. Search for the following item “Squeeze Bottle Dispenser with needle tiplets” when you visit the site.
Thanks for your kind words, and for watching my videos!!! I'm glad that they're helpful! Ross
thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us, you inspire me to watercolor. I do have a question where do you find the tip for your sqeez bottle ...thank you for your videos they are my favorite
I purchase the squeeze bottle that you see my use in my video at contenti.com. When you go to their website, search on ”Squeeze Bottle Dispenser with needle tiplets” Thanks for watching!!!
Oops - I see you have answered my question about the water bottle further down. Thank you!
what kind of needle do you use in the mask squeeze bottle? where do I get the needle?
what board do youuse to mount your watercolor paper? I clouldnt understand in the video/
hi ross will it be ok to use MDF or plywood
My local artist store doesn't offer that sweet little bottle with the thin metal tip. Where can I purchase one ?
+Carol Ferguson I found one on Amazon that is great. Search for a Gaunt Industries craft glue applicator. It holds 2 ounces of water.
Thank you so much !
Can you please show how your tablet is mounted on that board behind it?
Hi Johanna, Good question. I'll put together a short video showing the setup. Thanks for watching!
That would be awesome! Thanks so much!
