  • Had the chance to fire a Gatling Gun in Cody, Wyoming recently. When I saw they had the Alaska charging bear target, I had to test it out for potential bear defense!

Lol...I'm not sure that a gatling gun and bear self-defense would come up and if you've got enough bears in the area to be set up for bear defense....well that's a hard neighborhood.
There's a range about an hour away that has a Browning M1919 (40rds X $1.50) and a Anzio 20mm (1 X $25) rentals that I'm trying to get my son to bring his new fiancé on a range day.
She's never fired a weapon albeit her Dad's a full bird Colonel. I'd think he would have taught her. Range has a boatload of autos to rent. Should be some awesome videos.
I think a M1919 would be a great 1st weapon fired for her... with video. 😉

Dick, love your channel. 74 year old and shot many guns. Only shot M60, M16, but that's it. Love the Cody museum. Best regards from Smoky Mountains of east Tennessee. Happy New Year.

Happy New Year to you. I actually looked at moving to the much more free state of Tennessee a couple of months ago ... maybe when the "revolution" starts!

Thank you for sharing a ( Gatlings Gun)
Firing. Its a multi person weapon 😊 just a add on. Instead of LOSING your money in Las Vegas. Call Battlefield Las Vegas. If you spend about $400 to $500 on ammo they pick you up and take you back to your Hotel in an ipen Hummer 😊 there are packages of different FULLY automatic firearms from past Wars. For me its the German MP-40 and Grease Gun. 😊😊 Anyway if in Las Vegas go see there indoor Range. The outside Military static displays are excellent 👍 this is just ONE of the many Ranges in and around Las Vegas 😊😊 please everyone instead of lossing money 💰 in a casino. Got waste AMMO at one of these FLLY auto Ranges 😊 for me it was BETTER than a WIN at slots 😊 and I am a freemont person old town with Penny and nickel slots.

Years ago a commercial reloading operation called Buffalo Rock Shooters Supply near Rockford, IL had a wall covered with automatic weapons. The cost of firing them was buying the ammo from them. Some of us young cops used to drive up once or twice a year and shoot different autos. It was a blast, literally, and we got to shoot many historic weapons.

I think the phrase " If it wasn't for bad luck, you wouldn't have any luck at all!" applies to your elk hunting.
I was in the Army during the changeover from the M-1 to the M-14, M 60 etc. My favorite was the BAR. I loved firing it, but didn't want to carry it. The M-14 was supposed to replace it, but was not heavy enough for full auto.
    As usual, a great video!

Thanks for the kind words. Indeed, the Elk is my hunting nemesis! I have put the game warden there on notice. I have a pocketful of unused elk tags from over the years and when I DO get into a herd, I plan to fill them all!

I got to see one live fired that was chambered for .30-40 krag, they had a berm covered in milk jugs full of water at about 40 yards. Very impressive! They had to cut the show short due to a stuck case in one barrel, case head head separated.

See my Theodore Roosevelt video where I show a fired bullet/case from one of the .30-40 Gatling Guns used during TR's charge up San Juan Hill.

what about 9mm Makarov as a defensive load ? One has to admit that there is a lot of milsurp hand guns in 9mm Makarov on the civilian market here in the US, along with new manufactured ammo even high end defensive loads both made here and imported.

I have a personal bias against com-block weapons, sorry. The Makarov, in my opinion, is nothing more than a cheaply made knock off of a PPK. I prefer better weapons which fire more powerful cartridges. If you like the Mak or the AK rifles, go for it. They work fine and during some periods of time they can be had for low prices. I'll stick with stuff made in the west ... usually good old 'Murican stuff.

They did, the 7.62mm minigun was first and range up to 30mm cannon built into the A10 close support aircraft. 3,000+ rounds per minute ... ANOTHER thing I have to shoot once in my life!

@@lockloadwithdickfairburn-cr1jb I was being facetious. I do believe the first such test was conducted with a modified Gatling gun in the 1890s, but as usual, Dr Gatling was far ahead of his time and its true potential was not fully recognized until the 1950s when the Air Force adopted the M61 20mm Vulcan cannon for the F-104 Starfighter.
