Waiting to take delivery of a 21 Nightshade. Looked at both, and given my lack of interest in ever going offroad in any fashion that would require upgraded suspension, I went with the Nightshade. Cant go wrong either way though!
A very thorough and complete walk through. In spite of all of the bells and the whistles I simply hope Toyota decides to keep the manual 6 speed transmission. It would be very sad to see a very iconic truck that's always been so very fun to drive disappear again, for those of us who truly enjoyed the fun of the manual gears. It really made you feel like an intimate part of the ride and control of the truck. Thank you and have a great day.
Also note that the Pro & Off road trims are more robust in terms of hardware , you get a bigger rear differential 8.75inch in the Pro & Off road vs the other Tacoma trims , the hubs are bigger , beefier as well to endure the crawl control , and also the spindles are larger , not 100% on the frame but I think that may be beefed up for the Pro& OFF Rd in some places more than the regular Tacoma’s .
He likes the Tacoma TRD Pro better from his point of view per its Ride feel for him & fairly Notes that the 2021 Tacoma Limited Nightshade offers a More user-friendly Hwy ride as it's more specifically designed per its shocks & suspension & tires for on-road driving

OUTSTANDING review! I really like the level of detail you went into for your comparisons: they were meaningful and made total sense to me. I have owned a Tacoma Off-Road ('21), a Sport ('22) and I was so taken the by the looks of the TRD Off Road, but in the end what I was looking was for a comfortable ride. I never go off-roading, but I do use the truck to transport my scuba equipment quite frequently, which is heavy. I had been looking for a Limited for a while, but could not get one, until a couple of weeks ago, when they had one at the dealership near me. It was moment of luck: a black nightshade Limited, like the one you reviewed. One short drive and I was sold. No sense on going with the Pro, just for looks - although they look VERY cool. I traded in my Sport for the Limited. My Sport just had a harsh ride, and the TRD exhaust was something I actually disliked: too loud and I felt it droned at steady speed. So all of you descriptions just clicked and make perfect sense to me! This was a helpful review, and quite thorough, thanks!!!
I'm in the exact same boat. I loved the look of the TRD pro but I don't go offroading at all. I really wanted a black nightshade limited but I thought that was out of the realm of possibility with how hard new tacomas are to get. But I'll be damned if my Toyota guy didn't just text me 30 mins ago letting me know they're getting a black limited in a few weeks. So I asked for the spec sheet and price and my jaw dropped as it's a 22 nightshade Tacoma! He asked if I wanted it and I said absolutely I do! So I'm getting one. I'll replace the grill with the TRD pro grill and because that's what I loved the most about the pro lol
Enjoying my 6 month old 2020 TRD Sport DCLB 4X4. It's almost painful watching you have to drive in the crowed streets of Vancouver with these beautiful trucks. I don't know if you have been able to do some exploring with your TRD Pro but I feel these trucks are more at home on back country roads, Forest Service Roads and long highway trips. I just took ours out on a long highway trip. From Van to Chilliwack lake. I really got to use the Dynamic Radar Cruse Control for the first time. I was very impressed with how it operated. For city driving I always use ECT mode and basic drive mode for flat highway driving. I still don't like the default computer programming of the engine & Transmission. Once the Covid lock downs are over you should try some easy FSR roads or a road trip around BC.
Great content as usual David...thanks! Still waiting on delivery of my TRD Pro after ordering it 1st part of February here in Calgary, Canada...latest ETA has it arriving 1/15 June! Having owned my present 2008 Tacoma Double Cab SB TRD Sport since new I am looking forward to comparing the “differences” as well as the overall level of refinement. Being a Tacoma owner I do not have the “angst” that some prospective buyers have related to such things like the seating position, cargo/passenger capacity, rear drum brakes or over all power/performance . My present truck has experienced zero problems over its lifetime and “Toyota” reliability was paramount in my initial choice of purchase. Keep up your great work
Thank you so much again for your comments! It's really exciting to get a new truck so I am sure that you are looking forward to the ETA. My TRD Pro has been fantastic, although I am contemplating upgrading to the 2022 Tundra when the TRD Pro version comes out perhaps next year...
Similar to your sentiments, I too contemplated waiting for the new Gen Tacoma (2024🤷♂️)! Rightly or wrongly I’ve decided my as yet undelivered TRD Pro may very well become a mere placeholder for the completely re-engineered Generation when it’s finally released. If the new Generation ticks all the boxes for me I feel the “down the road” TRD Pro residual value will remain strong enough to make that transition financially easier!
Taking delivery of my Midnight Black TRD Pro tomorrow (Saturday May 22) at 4.00pm....got a feeling it’s going to be a long night tonight! Sold my 2008 TRD Sport privately....took less then 24 hrs. Bought it new for $35k....sold it for $20k....gotta love that Toyota depreciation...or lack thereof!
I'm trying to decide between the Tacoma TRD Off-Road & The Tacoma Limited Trim for many months now as I prefer the Tacoma TRD Off-Road more aggressive look & 'Lack of air dam giving it More road clearance even Stock, ''but I've yet to test drive the Tacoma Limited Trim 'where I might Like the On Road feel better & I'll be Little if any Off-Roading...'So, I'm kind of stuck in Tacoma Limbo for now ??
I was in the same position, tried 4runner offroad, tacoma sport , tacom sr5 unfortunately, if you check all the Tacoma forums, offroad is terrible on the road, I wanted to buy one, but the nosedive is just too much to ignore, otherwise OR provides the best package. I am going with Trail which has SR5 (same as nightshade) suspension and rear lock which is the best feature of TRD offroad. Also, Trail looks much better than OR. So it is almost the best combination you can buy. The problem is you can't get blind spot sensors, leather and moonroof, and multi-terrain monitor. Maybe the best option is taking offroad premium + factory lift which gives you better shocks (BS 5100)
@@AutomotivePress sorry I meant the 2017 Tacoma super white. It’s pretty common on many 3rd gen Tacomas. Dealership doesn’t want the repair nor the warranty covers due to certain vin numbers.
I have a 2021 in lunar rock. I'm going to a 4runner though because I hate the transmission lag. Any input on the reason toyota don't update that transmission

This is by far the best comparison between a TRD Pro and Limited I have viewed!! Excellent video, thank you!!
Glad it helped!

Who’s going to take a 45k to 50k truck and go over boulders and scratch the hell out of it?

Hi David, thank you a great help.
Always a great vid, look forward to all your stuff👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you so much!
Would like to see a night demo comparing the fog lamp illumination on Pro to standard model.

Hey AP, how long do you plan to keep your taco? Are you planning on upgrading to a new gen tundra?
Typically I change vehicles every year, so yes I am hoping to upgrade to the Tundra TRD Pro in about a year's time.
Thank you for all your videos david! How do you rate the 2021 Tacoma TRD sport w/ sport tuned suspension?
Perhaps the biggest distinction is the price. You can get a Limited Nightshade for about $10,000 less than a Pro.
Great video
I’d get the TRD Pro because of the snow
Can you please explain why the white Tacoma’s are paint chipping from all door window Edges ?
Do you mean the paint issue with the blizzard pearl white paint?

I just purchased a Lunar Rock Pro with manual transmission, after reading all the talk of how bad the auto is, I had to get a manual.

you should move to USA brother .
I lived in the US 3 times in various places and perhaps in the future, I will live there again...

TRD sport all the way...
Then you buy as many OEM PRO part so you can, to feel like you own a PRO.
Which you should have saved a little more and bought in the first place.
