In Nigeria to be precise, you can’t dye your hair or have some funny kind of hairstyles even down to dressing in your PARENTS house but when you move out of the house n can fend for yourself, then u can go ahead to do what u want but your parents will still nag n keep reminding u of your morals n all but can’t beat u cus u are older( so this kind of limit some of us even if we can do , we just dont do it to make our parents happy n also we are already used to that kind of lifestyle). And we necessarily don’t want to be like our friends cus it seems like we all ve the same kind of parent, so most of the ideas we want to explore comes from movies we see.
Where did you get the can’t beat you from? Chale my mom stills beats us…while not beat beat but she still gets some in even though my brother and I are adults. Might be cause we still live at home
Hahaha 😅... Thank you @Demouchet for bringing us all the good vibes, yeah as a Nigerian that's how it is with most Nigerian parents they prefer to discipline their kid so had to bring out the best in them, to them that's part of the love they show to their kids to raise and train them in a decent and good upbringing . In my parents house you can't dye hair, you can't dress inappropriate, you can't fix artificial nails too, i use to admire other girls i see with artificial nails but my mom won't allow that as long as your still living in her house, when i went to university to live in boarding school i decided to paint and fix my nails and one day i came back home with it to see what my mom will say when she saw my nails she was very angry with me she gave me 5 minutes to go take it off, I felt so bad I went and took them off. I didn't fix nails again till I finished school. Even when I decide to fix my nails I don't go visit my mom with it , but when I finish school and got my own place I do what I want but she would always remind me to be decent and dress decent.
As a South African , we dye our hair 😊just that people do neutral colors since they don't like taking a new change or different color because of attention you get 😊i for instance do bright colors a lot in my dreads😅
We do dye our hair but its not popular because unfortunately in my country, dying your hair will just make people think ur a bad person or rowdy. In most cases. And sometimes its just fashion
This reminds me when I was younger and wanted to do the cool hairstyles and my mom would send me back to the salon at night to have my hair straight😂😂😂
As a Nigerian, the rule is 1. No piercing/ tatoos 2. No dreads/ any hair deco 3. No inappropriate dress code even a crop top, not to talk of mini skirt, u wan die😂😂😢😢😅😅
I'm 18 and I really want to pierce my navel and my lip and my nose and get a tattoo but already the idea of talking to my mother about that was already over for me she kept asking me if I wanted to become a prostitute 😭
Yh it is true you can't dye your hair in my home. My mom will be so angry but some people do it.. but personally I think it is not good... You can't try that with my mother no matter how old you are. If you are not living with her and you want to go visit her it's better you shave well for the moment or she won't be happy even if she says nothing I know she's not happy.
My big bro dyed his hair blue,I remember my mom beating him while praying telling him he had joined illuminati 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 Edit: also when I got my job and rented my own house,I wanted to get a nose piercing,I asked my mom for permission, she said,"is that what you want?ok " I got scared I never did it 😂😂
I see both young guys and girls in Abuja with coloured low-cuts. Lots of girls with blue, pink or green braids at the moment, too. Mostly creatives imho, because there is still expected business office attire and hair styles.
In Malawi dying hair if you're a boy or a girl means you are "wolowelela" which means you've become a bad kid whose life is messed up just like how doing drugs is in the US for you guys. It's like a bad thing in most houses but some parents do allow it and don't think much of it but most still don't accept such behaviours.
Whatever we want to experience it's always when you leave home at university 😅 instead of being the talk of the village but people are getting used to the coloured hair on women for men not yet in my country As for today family has to be more open to accept you bring aman with hair home or coloured hair or tattoos even just being friends there is no way your explaining to your parents that that is a good friend same with dress code ( skirts above the knees, men in skinny jeans 😂 ) not in my village or home That can't be a good friend in parent's perspective
Oh you can dye yiur hair for sure, but as an adult living on your own!!!!! You try it, they'll hit you like a wrecking ball! I couldn't even have two piercings
Dying hair, tattoos is a big deal thing in most African homes.
Not just color even certain hair cuts that are mostly associated with the "bad kids " it's just for that sole purpose nothing else.

In South Africa most of us do dye our hairs and there's no certain stigma against it both male and female
Everything IS allowed in SA😂
Is very typical of my Ghanaian moms and their Nigerian cousins. We share the same code of ethics😂South Africans may accept this

He needs to leave their house, once you can stand on your own they let you live your life.

Braids are different from the natural hair and most young people with dyed hairs, live on their own.
