These documentary style videos that you’ve released here and on FED are excellent and I’d love to see more of them. Beautifully edited and informative whilst fun. Ally being a good speaker helps but still. Awesome.
Such an inspiration and a joy to see Ally and his fellow Islanders so committed and content. They have a life that money can't buy. Thanks for sharing this with us.❤
Thank you so such for a great video. I am a hand spinner and would LOVE to get my hands on some of that wool! So sorry that the world market treats wool like crap. Here in the U.S. there are regional efforts underway (we call them fibersheds) to encourage the use, processing and sale of wool, involving local shepherds/farmers, mills, retailers, and then consumers like me who love love love to spin and knit with real wool.
Those kind words mean the world to me as a very small shepherd - I currently have a flock of five ewes and ewe lambs. My sheep are such an important part of my life and my family’s and we have such a close bond with them. I enjoy having a small flock because I can know my sheep individually. But that makes us no less important than any shepherd who has 20-2000 sheep. Thank you for saying that. Truly.
Don't ever leave that beautiful place to work anywhere else Ally. Unless it's to travel to rescue another sheep that weighs nigh on a ton 😉😉 There used to be a Scotch Wool Shop in every town way back. Are there no weavers or woolly garment makers on the island that we may be able to support to share the word about the awful waste of a beautiful product? Thank you for sharing your life.
Large amount of fiber art community uses wool yarn in whatever craft they do. It is considered by most a high end fiber to use and it's expensive. I think it is worth the price most of the time because it is so versatile to use.
Just an ordinary working man talking about his life and his work..to many his life would seem poor ..hard physical labour no great wage but in so many ways what a rich life living in such a scenic part of the world...close friends who have your back....be a lot of worse lives lived thats for sure...👍
Your right! Wool is very valuable! Maybe part of the problem has to do with the saying : “it’s all in the presentation “ . For example making people want it. Maybe advertising to other countries that you sell fine genuine British wool ! Uniquely from the Scottish Isles of the mystical leprechauns breathtaking rainbows Etc. 😜👍🌷🥳🌈🐑🐏🧝🧝♀️
Thats the handy thing w the small islands. They are cleared of foxes and varmints, so yes, no predation! Many of the smaller islands are rented out to one farm or co-op, so no mixed property either.
@@rebeccaburrow7199 Such "freedom" is hard to imagine on the European mainland, where fences, and many, many streets are just as common as wolves, not to mention the other larger predators that can be dangerous to the lambs...
My heart goes out to all the farmers and shearers. May they all reap incredibly beautiful rewards for the kind, compassionate seeds they have sewn. ❤

Thanks...more to come! 💪
The scenery is beautiful and the aerial shots are just amazing. Great video
My husband & I were on the Isle of Lewis/Isle of Mull about 12 years ago. I can't think of a more beautiful place on this earth.

A brilliant video which shows the passion that Ally has for his community and island.
Totally agree about the wool being an amazing product and its treated as worthless. Its a crying shame.
I will never understand why wool prices are so low to the farmer and yet so high to the consumer!

The passion is so evident

You have each others backs 😊
You’re a very lucky man to be so happy with your life 😊

That is some rugged landscape you are working on. Keep up the good work.

It's a life choice to be sure
Beautiful video 🤩
Fascinating,
I wish I could get all that wool to spin into yarn but I'm in Canada
Now that's passionate for ye, it's damm hard but they love it.❤
the shearing costing more than the wool is why so many are switching to easycare, or similar shedding sheep.
Where is this beautiful place

1:03 Do the sheep just walk around wherever they want? Are there no predators in your area or property rights to be observed?
