It's good to know other people have the same idea 😀 I do this for all my tube stuff.. Tooth paste, creams etc.. It's criminal the amount of stuff we throw out in tubes or even lotion bottles, talcum powder booties etc...thinking it's over and done with
Thanks so much for this video. I gave up on working with gouache because it dries out in the tube so quickly and I thought it was no good and would throw a half a tube of paint away and buy another. I'm going to work with it again now that I know I can still use the dried paint. Thank you for this video.
Thank you for this. I'm new to gouache and was worried because mine is all about half dry. I thought it all useless. I spent a good amount on it. Really didn't want to toss it. Great knowledge to have. Older artists have so much to offer. I've learned almost everything I know from an artist willing to share their knowledge. (The rest has been trial and error) I can't thank people, who share their hard won knowledge so freely, enough.
Malcolm, this might be an idea for a video: I have problems with many acrylics being transparent, of the saturated colours pretty well only cadmiums are opaque. It makes it really hard to layer with pthyalos etc.
This is a great tip. A couple of weeks too late for me, as I threw out a bunch that were looking too worse for wear. My question is about the palette. Do you only work with paint that is moist/wet? I know you can reactivate gouache once it's dried, but it behaves quite differently then. Thanks.
@@MalcolmDewey Thanks. Here, the weather is just starting to warm, so I'm prepping my stuff for plein air work. So my next purchase is one of those sealed palettes you have. I found the link.
Very useful thank you! Has anyone dried to save gouache that's dried hard in the tube and crumbly? Curious if the consistency is any good after soaking?

Excellent, it's worth it.
Great advice. Don't let it go to waste.
Who knew? I am SO going to do this! Thank you!
Excellent!

Thank you 😁
Fantastic idea I will be using.
Stuck in acrylics for now...maybe one day! But wanted to say I loove the little lights happily winking among your art behind you, very atmospheric!
Thank you Marina, glad you like my Christmas lights (still up)
Great tip ! Maybe the same could be done with oil paint .....
Definitely!
good tip...thank you. Also I find that using my 'tube squeezer' (don't know the right name!!!) oftener helps avoid drying in tube.
Great tip! thanks
Very helpful! Thank you!
It's a pleasure
Thanks so much. I just received some gouache that had been in storage for 4 years and some of it needs to be resuscitated
😀 hope it's still okay
I love it! Thanks, I saved this video to watch again. Great tips in there.
Excellent, Thank you
Thankyou!
You're welcome!

Thanks for the suggestion.
Great tip, thank you

Pretty much moist. Only on impasto highlights or a dry scumble will I use direct from the tube.

Yes it can be saved easily. Just grind it into powder and add water slowly.
@@MalcolmDewey thanks for the quick reply! I threw out some old gouache last year cause I didn't think of this 😓 will deffo try it next time :)
Doesnt it catch fungus, specially some of the hues?
Not to my knowledge. You mean of wet and in a damp environment?
@@MalcolmDewey yes
a very good way to save money, awesome.👍👍👍❤
Thank you!
@@MalcolmDewey you're welcome❤
What if your gouache is hard as a rock?
Use the back end of the palette knife and grind the lump of paint into powder. Add water as shown and mix. A mortar and pestle concept.
