Thank you very much for this lesson, I'm 32 and I'm playing piano for a month now and just started learning scales today! It's very difficult to play a C scale with both hands simultaneously but I will get there I'm sure!
I'm happy you liked it! Absolutely, practice makes progress! I have written some tips here that might help you. Scroll down to the exercises: www.onlinepianocoach.com/c-major-scale.html
Hello, all scale practicers! Someone asked: "When doing all 12 major scales in chromatic order, E Major and F Major both end on the thumb. How do you go from E major to F major fingering wise so you keep the speed... without doubling the thumb which makes it sound choppy?" I thought that was a very relevant question, (and a fun right-hand exercise challenge for all scale practicers to do! :) So here's my answer: When playing the last descending octave (if you play many octaves) with the right hand in E major, you would normally play the last 4 notes (A G# F# E) with fingers 1-3-2-1. Change this to 1-4-3-2 and then slide under with your 1st finger on F and continue! :) The same "problem" occurs from B major to C major, so use the same "trick" as above! Happy Practicing! :)
oOoOO HHH! Thank you for this video! I dread the black keys in scales, I can never remember! But now I understand the scales follow a pattern, and I learned this from you! I have watched a lot of videos (looking for videos that aren't annoying), and you are THE ONLY ONE to mention that scales follow a pattern! It's so helpful to know that! The black keys in scales are no longer a mystery - thank you!
This was a brilliant lesson, especially with the colored stickers. I learned more in 10 minutes than I did with hours of reading. The scales and keys suddenly clicked for me in a way that it didn’t before. I feel like I’m off to the races now!
An afternoon well spent, pausing, replaying, analyzing, and making notes! Thank you for my excellent introduction to chords! I've got a lot of practicing ahead of me, and this has given me an excellent start! Thank you! 😊
where have you been al is time!? just started to learn the piano (kind of serisouly now) from guitar and this is probably the best video on scales for beginners out there!
Thank you for explaining in such a clear, concise manner. I liked your use of sticky strips as a clear visual for the flat scale patterns - I hadn't thought about in that way before and it has made things easier to understand. Your approach is really thorough and most importantly for me - allows me to see how scales are linked!
I’m an adult beginner and I have been playing piano for 6 months. This lesson gave me a complete understanding of scales for the first time. I feel like I finally have deciphered the hidden code I was struggling with. I’m so excited. Thank you so much Maria. 😊
my gawd. This is much like alot of piano stuff on youtube. I just want to see the scales played period. I can slow mo for the fingering. I don't want theory. Can anyone point me somewhere?
Dear Teacher! I'm so glad I found you! I have never come across a video that is so down-to-earth, which is a huge help even for beginners. He speaks English very well, which is also a huge help for me. Thank you very much. I wish you good health for your further work!
Thank you for your very clear tutorial. I have never placed any importance on WWHWWWH as I grew up with the violin and we do not see the notes. I am 72 and now having a go at piano to keep my brain and hands active. I now can see the importance of it quite literally on a piano keyboard. I akso find it difficult to play a maj scale with two hands...duhh! Peter
I'm glad you found it helpful! Yes, the piano is great for any music theory, as all the notes/keys are so clearly displayed! I wish you all the best in your piano practice! 😊
High..! Mss Piano Coach thank you for this grate video explanation about scales, I really learnd so much with it. and I sugest that if you can leave for your followers biginners some exercise on pdf to download and keep it to practice. Thanks a lot and God Bless You...!!!
You’re very welcome! I’m glad it was helpful. PDF? Sure! How about this: www.onlinepianocoach.com/piano-music-scales.html and this: www.onlinepianocoach.com/12-major-scales.html I hope you’ll find it useful! 🎹😃
Good lesson for learning scales and theory as you'll see in all music theory books. Learning chunks of 3 whole notes separated by a half step followed by 4 whole notes is a hack to learning the theory faster.
I think you are the best teacher because you didn't talking too much and you teach directly to the chords and scale so easy to understand. Thanks you I love that
Im 57 and playing piano almost 1 year. I finally (yesterday) decided to learn the maj. scales. I gatta tell you, the WWH-WWWH that you tought in this lesson is mind blowing and will not only help with learning the major scales, but with future playing in many areas. Thank you soooooooo from N.Y.
Isn't time better spent learning to play an actual piece of music rather than a scale which rarely ever occurs in a piece of music other than a short excerpt of a scale?
Thank you for your input! 😀I have written a page about identifying scale, chord and interval patterns in music for easier note reading here: www.onlinepianocoach.com/piano-notes.html
Thanks for really lovely video. The lesson was clear, and to-the-point. I felt like we rushed through the last few scales, but I think that just means I need to go through the lesson a few more times. Thanks!
Thank you so much mum, through this tutorial, i have mustard all twelve keys. I only used to know fsharp key, but through this, now I'm playing every key. Be blessed mummy
….blacks are sharps. Finger starts 2 for black keys. thank you. Very serious lesson. 123 1234. ….i could use a Left and Right finger chart for each scale. Thank you for an highly professional piano lesson….❤
@OnlinePianoCoach is there anywhere else that you post teaching videos?? I can only see two on this channel. I’m so disappointed! You are a great teacher. Thanks.
My piano teacher has never gone over scales like this, she just assigns a scale from the Alfred book. This was so helpful since it was visual. Thank you so much!
Good content madam. I have a question though. How many hours do I need to practice scales everyday in order to play at a speed of 160BPM and how long will it take
Hello there! Please don't spend hours practicing scales! 😲A good rule of thumb is about 20% of your practice time could be spent on technical exercises like scales, chords, and arpeggios, and 80% spent on learning repertoire. Fast playing you should build up gradually. Practice with a metronome very slowly, then gradually increase the speed as you feel confident. Nobody can answer how long it will take! It's like the question, "how long is a piece of string?" As long as it takes...😎
Thank you so much Ma'am for the clear instruction about the piano lesson of major scale and now I know where will I have to place my fingers while playing the piano. Thank you. 😊
👌Excellent, Super nd beautifully teaching Mam. Most of the people play on white keys nd few play on black keys. Please teach both on white nd black keys showing in detail with Major nd Minor chords. My humble request is that, in ur Next video, please arrange to show ur key board playing in detail, in colors, in separate key board by naming the chords. 🙏 Awaiting. Take care Mam.

unfortuneatly the written letters are exactly on Piano keys which you are trying to demonstrate. It is annoying & abstracting.
