  • People often ask, 'what is the difference between the delicas and regular seed beads?' It is usually easy to explain that delicas are a cylinder shape, with larger holes and perfectly cut, but sometimes the difference is easier to see in this video that explains! Both types of Miyuki beads are used in hundreds of different jewelry-making projects, so the possibilities are endless.

    This information is very helpful. So many projects just say 'seed beads' and will state the Size only but do not tell you the right Type of beads to use, which is costly and time consuming for people making the projects.

      I think when they don't state what kind, they are just using generic seed beads from countries other than Japan. Round seed beads are actually called Rocailles but no one uses that name very much and so everyone gets confused just calling them seed beads. Seed beads actually encompass a whole range of small beads including two hole beads and so on. The Japanese companies distinguish between their seed beads by giving them separate names. The other major contributors are the better Czech companies like Preciosa, who are making many other multi-hole shapes and provide us with the lovely coatings like Picasso and Tweedy. Happy beading!

    Are you able to recommend type and size of beads to make a daisy necklace with spacing in-between the daisies?
    When I look for directions online, I'm finding daisies that don't look round and kinda lopsided. Thanks!!

    Very helpful information, however, I also see Toho seed beads, are they just a brand or are they another type of seed bead?? The Myukis are delica beads correct?
    Thanks.

      +Carla P Everything shown in this video is the Miyuki Brand. Toho is another Japanese brand that has similar seed beads and delicas (their version of the delica is called the "treasure."). Miyuki has regular seed beads and delicas (tubular beads). Toho has regular seed beads and treasures (tubular beads). Toho's seed beads have larger holes, and are slightly larger than Miyuki's. I hope all of that makes sense.

    So sad that all metallic beads are so easy to wear off. I hope Duracoat and Permafinish beads will be available here in my country

    Thanks for the information. I am about to start looming. I purchased a lot of 11's Miyuki seeds, but now it seems I should have purchased 11's Delicas. The seeds look tiny & Im not even sure they will fit in between the wefts. Do you have any further suggestions to help me. I love watching your informative videos. However Im still confused & don't want to have to spend more money on Delicas if I don't need to. I think your video said the Delicas were even smaller than the 11's seeds.Thanks, Lindy

      +Lindy Hawthorne you can change the size of your wefts to match any beads that you are using. 11/0 delicas are smaller than 11/0 seed beads, but larger than 15/0 seed beads

      Thank you. I don't think I could handle smaller beads, the 11's are small enough. thanks again.

    Hi. I'm stopping here because I bought a bracelet in Etsy with miyuki and seed bed but it doesn't say the difference between them. As a customer, how can I identify the difference because I've seen different prices too in these jewelry? I don't want to be scam paying the fine one against the bad quality ones. Thanks you

      We prefer to use Miyuki Seed Beads or Toho Seed Beads for our projects. Miyuki is our go-to simply because the beads are more consistent in shape and size. I would look for those brand names to keep you away from beads of lower quality

    Are delica and miyiki beads two different beads? I understand delica are cylindrical shape and Miyuki are rounded in shape, correct? It's just delicas are made by miyiki but yet they are in fact 2 different beads?

    • @AL-wc8oy

      Both are in the same company (Miyuki), and they are just different versions of seed beads

    Do I have to use delicas to make a bezel or can I use rounds?

    • @Potomacbeadco
      @Potomacbeadco  3 года назад +1

      Hi Olivia, if you have plenty of experience with Delicas and peyote, then you should be able to use the rounds for peyote. The rounds are actually called Rocailles but for some reason, everyone seems to just say seed beads. You can definitely use rocailles for a bezel, but it might require more patience to get them to sit exactly right. There are lots of ways you can add a beaded bezel, so explore those too.

    What's the difference in a Charlotte 15/0 vs round 15/0 seedbeads

    • @Potomacbeadco
      @Potomacbeadco  Год назад +1

      the Charlottes are seed beads with one cut in the side, and a regular 15/0 is completely round

    Which is the difference in centimeters of a 8 and 11 size?

    • @Potomacbeadco
      @Potomacbeadco  4 года назад

      They vary with the brand and the coatings but 8/0s were originally 8 beads per inch and the 11/0s were 11 beads per inch. If you have callipers, you can measure them yourself and see the differences.

    I am getting ready to order seed beads but the pricing for the myuki is less. Pattern calls for 11/0 seed beads can I use delica beads? Also would I need to use a larger size in the delica. Will wait before ordering. Thank you
