If you want more pars and more distance, let's make sure that you are REALLY making a backswing. Many players struggle with fully turning their back to the target. A popular reason with my students, is that they lose their sense of space...it get's weird back there. So, instead, they end up not turning. Here's the fix and the whys so you can get back there without getting weird.

I never comment on RUclips videos but feel I must. As a veteran golfer with 22 years experience and playing off a 4 handicap, I must say, this video sums up my swing perfectly. I have seen 100s of coaches and spent 1000s of dollars on coaching and no one ever explained this as well as you did. I cant wait to test this out tomorrow on the range. Seriously well done on a simple, logical, and non-technical way of explaining this issue!

Simple, but powerful, lesson. Once I got over the fear of losing sight of the ball and that "out of control" feeling, I starting striking my irons so much more purely. I used to simply try to hit the ball, but now I'm swinging the club with the ball simply getting in its path. What a game-changer. Thank you!

I’ve been playing the game for over 35 years.
Seen all the the RUclips videos from other golf instructors. I myself know the golf swing very well and know what to do in a golf swing but am not always able to execute this correctly.
I strongly believe that you highlighted one of the most common problems that most all amateurs experience - and that is we don’t turn our chest enough on our take away. To turn one’s chest slightly and lift one’s arms for a take away WITHOUT A FULL chest turn is the lazy mans’ (or woman’s’) golf swing
I think you highlighted a problem here that is overlooked by most golf instructors.
Shows exactly what I need to work on more because I know, after I do a full chest turn on my take away, I can crush the ball.
Just find it difficult to do it repeatedly
    Great tip! Thanks!

WOw...you just described my issue of swinging the golf club for the last 30 years!!! Amazing. Keeping the arms tight to the chest and using the chest to move the club when starting the back swing...best tip ever!!!!. I am just heading out the door to go the driving range and will be working on this. I know my body and chest move exactly as you show when you don't turn enough. Coming over the top..etc. I could never figure it out. Thank you soooo soo much!!!!! Nick from Canada!!!

  • @jamesbond4633
    @jamesbond4633 5 лет назад +3

Just got back from the range before the rain. Yes indeed ..this is a great tip. I am a pretty big guy ...6'1' 250 lbs. so I can generate power with my arms. But with your tip ...I realize that is not the engine of the golf swing for full shots. Without a full shoulder turn there is no power ...no centrifugal force. A full shoulder turn includes a full chest turn. You have succinctly and eloquently explained this vital detail which has been missing in my swing and which I only occasionally have stumbled upon with feel ..but then fall out of it because I never understood what I was doing when it "felt" right. Coming over the top and all the other mistakes you have described in this video was driving me bonkers...you did a good imitation of my swing!! It was driving me bonkers..so thanks again!!! Nick from Canada

Nice to see a good womam golfer explaining shots for a lot of swings.
Im 30 years old with a 40+ lb beer belly... and men just dont swing like this..
Where is the toe lift? Or at least left side foot tilt? Ive had hundreds of hours of lessons..
I used to be able to drive 280+ yards when i was 16 before i made bad life decisions because i had a john Daley swing.
I can see the club in my left eye before i hit the ball.... super nice to add 10+ yards to all my my shots... also makes half of them go off the fairway..
Thats the biggest problem ive seen from most golfers if they arent total beginners.
They aren't to agraid to pull back, they do it WAY too much.

Well said! It also gets the club head further away from the ball giving it more time to square up and stopping a tendency to slice.

Hi Christina. Staying connected to your side and making a good chest turn with your back to the target is all well and fine. However; then you say that you simply complete your back turn. Well if you wish to have a greater backswing from that point on do as John Daly does and handle your golf club grip as if you are doing an over head dumbbell triceps extension of your arms at the gym. This will allow both your arms to bend at the top and you will actually feel your club go pass parallel as John Daly does with his club. This action creates a larger arc in the golf swing and thus it generating more potential power in the downswings. I do this at 71 and am amazed at the results every single time. I believe it helps create a natural vertical drop of both arm into the magic slot for the maximum lag of the club just before impact. Hope you at least give it a try and feel the even converging power you will generate with swinging collectively with both arms. Thanks for reading. As usual love your videos. ruclips.net/video/XlAFMyH32ng/видео.html

Your lead shoulder stays "with the shot" not failing around to the left! No one did this better then Moe Norman! Not only is great power developed but very consistent accuracy! Hard to have a two miss with that swing IMO! Good advise!

    [memo]
Full turn
