Walked a mile to a train station in Bad Toelz Germany and rode a train an hour to Munich in Sept. 1973 (2nd show of the day) to watch these guys play in the Olympiahalle! I was the only American in my immediate vicinity but I made so many new friends! They shared their "baked goods" pipes and a plethora of wine and beer. I don't remember the trip back to my billets at Flint Kaserne but I know I had the time of my life!!

@@geraldobrien7323 It's actually a metaphor about heroin abuse, but I take your meaning...assuming your meaning was that after a song has been a pop song/radio hit for so long that 3rd and 4th generations of fans no longer appreciate the not-so-subtle tongue-in-cheek irony that made the lyrics so clever but instead have decided that their own interpretation is so culturally inappropriate a band should stop playing it live for risk of offending anyone. I must admit that, judging by the disgust and shame this audience is clearly displaying, permanently removing it from the setlist seems like the right call.

Not to take anything away from Ronnie, he’s a competent journeyman and definitely a bonafide member, but not even close to what Mick Taylor laid down with Keith during his time with the Stones. And Brian?, his contributions were undeniable. RIP Brian. Ronnie’s most significant contribution may be that without him, The Stones might have disbanded in the 80’s. I’m a fan and have some of Ron’s solo vinyl and I saw Ronnie with the Faces on their last tour before he left to join the Stones. Keith was the surprise guest guitarist that night for their show at COBO Hall Detroit. Thank you Ronnie for all that you’ve done

The lyrics of “Brown Sugar” (1971) are about slaves from Africa who were sold in New Orleans and abused by their white masters. The topic is quite serious, but the song is structured as a fun rocker about a white guy having sex with a coloured girl.
According to “Up and Down With The Rolling Stones” (1996) by Tony Sanchez, all the slavery and whipping is a double entendre for the perils of being mastered by “brown heroin” (or “brown sugar”). The drug cooks brown in a 🥄 spoon.
This was the first tune released on Rolling Stones Records, using the now iconic tongue and lips for their logo. The album cover was designed by the one and only Andy Warhol❕It was a close-up photo of a man wearing tight jean, and contained a real zipper. That caused considerable problems in shipping, but was the kind of added value that made the product much more desirable.
Artists who covered “Brown Sugar” include the likes of Little Richards, Collin Raye and Alice Russell. Also, Bob Dylan performed it on his 2002 US tour.
“Brown Sugar” was a staple of Rolling Stones set lists until 2022. Why❔ Mick Jagger replied : “We’ve played ‘Brown Sugar’ every night since 1970, so sometimes you think, ‘We’ll take that one out for now and see how it goes.’ We might put it back in.” 💚👅💙
