The driving experience is very different between the two cars. I drove a friend’s new Rav4 in June of 2023. The cabin was cramped, very busy, and very noisy and cheap-feeling on surface roads. I was incredibly disappointed. Then I drove a CX5 and was struck by the quiet, the roomy driving position, and the elegant interior. No contest for me, and this was at a time when Toyota dealers were massively over-charging for all their cars. I got a year-old CX5 last summer and I love it.
Live in Australia and have owned our CX5 GT since 2017 with just under 90,000kms. Have to say love the CX5. Nearly 6 years later, no squeaks no rattles nothing has broken and everything works. All of te controls feel just like did from day 1. Great to drive, steering and ride has surprised everyone that has driven our CX5 or just been a passenger. Passenger do love the quality leather seats and nice and quiet comfortable ride .
Mazda CX-5 is way better machine than RAV4 . The exterior and interior are very high quality which no other competitor can match . CX-5 is a hidden gem . I just bought a 2023 in Preferred package for my wife after test driving it. The road hugging . Quietness and driving dynamics is unmatched . You folks must test drive one and see for yourself . Mazda is the winner in this segment.
Traded up our very well optioned 17 CX-5 for the much more punchy 23 CX-5 Turbo. To say they're fun to drive is an understatement! But the turbo CX-5 is a beast on the streets!! So quick and nimble.
From owing a 16 CX-5 to now purchasing a 23 CX-5 Carbon Edition, I can tell you first hand that Mazda builds a solid, dependable product! Nothing wrong with a Toyota product, other than being a "me-too" brand.
Recently traded my V6 manual mustang for a CX-5 signature. Before the mustang I had a Mazda 3 2.5 manual. I loved the Mazda 3 and mustang but the cx-5 blows both out of the water with everything.
Only 19% of crossover owners actually use them off road. I bought the Mazda CX-5 Premium for it's luxury and AWD for adverse winter conditions. I don't need it to look rugged when I'm not planning to take it off road. It's been a fantastic vehicle and definitely turns heads...
I’m getting my retirement car lol and it’s between the 2 , I think. If we drive far, my hubby will do the driving but I have to consider space since we will start traveling with our doggies. I will only drive it in the city but I prefer a nimble car.
I guess you haven't heard of 1.4 million rav4 recall. Just about every toyota lineups are now built in north america, I seriously doubt canadian/american made pos toyotas would last longer than japanese built cx5.
Was a passenger on a friend’s CX-5 on a four way stop inside a shopping center parking lot, my friend was involved in a four way stop. His 2021 Mazda crumbled, over 5,000 of damage plus three month wait to get parts the other car a Camry just small dents. I hit a city bus with my 2019 RAV4 we both tried to avoid an accident and the bus turned into me.. My car’s repair cost 1500 . RAV4 are built like a truck , heavy and rough. So go ahead and buy a CX-5 just hope you don’t get into an accident. ☺️
I own mazda 3’s 2010 and 2015. The only problem are the availability of parts, if available they are expensive. Mazdas are reliable. Resell value is bad.
You can only say your car is reliable when you have $341,000 MI and the only thing you ever changed on it was the brake pads air filter and oil change not one breakdown
Happy with my 2023 CX-5 Premium. Enjoying every ride. Absolute beauty

It depends what you are looking for. The RAV4 is definitely a better softroader.

all toyota suvs are overpriced garbage. I would never pay poorly built canadian made rav4 for 40k. Made in japan CX5 all day everyday

Mazda's are way more better looking and quieter than the Rav. And more fun, only downside is the no touchscreen.
Definitely quieter.
I like the no touch screen. Keep your hands and eyes on the road
No hybrid and less cargo space are also downsides

CX-5
CX 5
Dont get the RAV.
After 10 years and 130,000 miles we’ll talk. My bet is on the RAV4.

You should probably do some research on both vehicles reliability before making foolish bias comment
mazda all the way!!!
cx5 looks better inside out even drives better rav4 is noisy boring suv
mazda is a secundary brand. toyota in the other hand is the top brand, its the top dog in the back yard!

That's a neat story. Are you aware the CX-5 has a better safety rating?
This is not a story, these really happened. Toyota outsells Mazda 500 to one. I wonder why?
another toyota worshipping troll with made up story.
The cx5 has a higher safety rating vs rav4 and it only outsells the cx5 because of production volume
You forgot the two most important things resale value and reliability the Toyota wins hands down
cx 5 has great reliability
rav can't compete with the CX-5

its so great your already thinking of the resale value , keep it forever instead
Mazda parts are very expensive. Did you Mazda uses Toyota motors also.
