In this interpretation of the classic tale, Arthur (Clive Owen) is a cavalry officer in the Roman army defending Hadrian's Wall against rebellious Britons. He and his troops are expecting to be relieved but are instead sent on a risky mission to rescue the Roman family of Marius Honorius, who proves a despicable torturer of pagans. Arthur frees one of them, Guinevere (Keira Knightley), who in turn brokers a truce between Arthur and the Britons so as to ward off an invading Saxon army.

There's literally a Battle on the Ice in 1242 AD where the Republic of Novgorod warded off the Teutonic Knights
There is a WWII era anti German propaganda film about that battle and surrounding events called Alexander Nevsky. Musicians of the day revered it for its score by Prokofiev.
Titus pullo once again breaking formation.
I had to pause for a moment, that got me.
Made my day haha thank you
we miss him :(
Anyone who has played Total War knows that a loose formation is best against archers. :D
Testudo and shield walls works as well
@@boyscouts83712 yes but those walls don't move well
@@boyscouts83712 Yes, for closing in with infantry. I had an 'archer vs archer' - duel in mind when commenting.
Not if you have a shield wall

I was obsessed with this movie when it came out.
Saxons eventually overran Britain and took it over. England actually comes from Anglia, land of the Angles or Anglo Saxons.
Love this movie ❤
Not a very realistic film, but a fun one. I have seen it at least a dozen times and it always entertains.
looks like a scene from beyond the wall in GOT
Nice movie to watch, plenty of good actors. Almost twenty years old.
Always good to see this period...although as Wirralians we are proud of the great battle of Brunanburh/Bromborough 937AD, where England came into being ...Max Adam's book, the First Kingdom is wort a peek at Arthurian Britain...cheers, Johnny...E😊😊😊
This movie is in no way historically accurate. The ONLY accurate part is that Rome was leaving. For starters, the Saxons won, and England was not unified in the 400s CE. The Angles and Saxons invaded in a similar fashion to the Danish/Norse invasions sometime later (same parent culture). A warrior elite who had earned station and were going raiding and settling, rather than mass invasion all at once. The mass invasion and replacement theory lost all credence when it was found, depending on the region in England, only 10-40% were of Saxon ancestry.
Also, England did not come to be in 937. The title in 937 was King of the English, not King of England, as much of England was still under Norse and Cornish control. The first King of England was Cnut, though that title again reverted to King of the English by the end of his reign. William the Conqueror restored that title as the first Norman King of England. King John was the first "English" King, as they had lost their French holdings.
Traditionally, the man considered to be the true first King of England is Alfred the Great of Wessex, as England was his vision.
One doesn't die instantly from an arrow wound.
Arthur is Lucius Artorius Castus
Titus Pullo in another life defend Rome
Was this the winter they had to eat Sir Robin's minstrels?
Wait... I've watched this movie many times, and it's only now that I realize Arthur isn't Nicolas Cage!?
wait, she is half naked on the ice in winter?
Meh film but hey at least Samartian cavalry represents!
When 8 year olds writes movies......
It is entertaining…if you close your brain off.

I really hate the perception that we're criminals, lower class citizens, etc. It's hard to stomach. I could tell you stories of how people react, and I ride a freakin BMW GS, the nerdiest of bikes used to get to coffee shop hangouts 😅
Who is she?
