    My main gripe is the crew is so damn dumb that they didn't need an evil android or xenomorphs to die. They would have died off naturally, so the antagonists only sped up the process. Seriously! They don't have any backup plans, they're constantly arguing, they go onto a planet that they know nothing about without a damn space/environment suit, it's just crazy. And to top it all off, they don't have any extra crew in stasis! They were doomed from the start.

      That's because people have retrospective bias and are unwilling to see modern movies in that light. You can trust that if a classic from the past came out today, people would tear it apart without a second thought.

      because you can't. they have tried to turn movies from an art form to a paint by numbers system, because of greed and it shows. actors are worse, directing is worse, the scripts and plots are abysmal, an original idea hasn't been made into a movie in a long long time. the studios are relying on computers, and talented producers and editors to created what used to be interpreted by an actor, given direction, then artfully captured. all with people taking pride in their work. now it's all about the paycheck. and only about the paycheck. it's as bad as sports.

    Don't forget Alien: Isolation. Close to perfect, story-wise.

    • @mdqp2
      @mdqp2 7 лет назад +20

      To be honest, the rubber-banding AI of the Alien killed it for me. I was sitting in a vent, and there was a corridor which wrapped around where I was on the right, connected to a room on my left, and the Alien kept walking around back and forth between the two with no goal forever, it just wouldn't leave (as if it knew I was there) but never entered the vent (I guess because he wasn't supposed to know I was there?).
      Anyway, I think it's bad because as soon as you hide for a while, it instantly stops behaving in a believable way, and you can't really be clever about it (unless we call using a noisemaker something "clever", or abuse the survivors when they are available). There is never a genuine moment with the Alien, where you hide and hold your breath and then it leaves the area, it always stays until the script tells him to leave.

      David had to base his research on something. He was alone on the Engineer homeworld for a very long time, and he had access to all their stuff since he killed them all. I'm pretty sure he was just recreating experiements the Engineers did in the past. We know the ship in Alien had crashed there LONG before Prometheus, let alone this movie. I don't think David created the Xenomorphs. I think he recreated them.

      DrViperVideos that was done on purpose, I think it's suppose to be that a. The ships in Prometheus and covenant are big and fancy and highest quality possible, while in alien it was blue collar truckers in space. And B. It was i stylistic choice, the technology in the two most recent ones are more modern like ours but it's different in the future because the technology and culture changed or something along those lines. I heard it in an interview about the design choices. It's meant to be more modern because it is, and the stuff we see later in the series is more advanced but looks different because it's the future. I know it doesn't make a whole lot of sense but it's a logical way to write it off.

    • @AesirComplex
      @AesirComplex 7 лет назад +9

      And even thinking back on it more, we know the engineer DNA is a 100% match with human DNA, and that the mural on the ship was over 2000 years old. This pretty much implies that the engineers know what happens when a facehugger impregnates an engineer, and it will most likely look like the original Alien xenomorph. You guys are implying that David created the facehuggers, and there's absolutely nothing to back this up. He most likely discovered a method to create and foster the eggs, and knows that the ultimate creation is a Xenomorph+human hybrid.

    I've seen millions of star trek episodes with them walking around on unknown planets without any kind of helmets or anything, why is no one ever complaining about that? Could anyone please explain this to me? And it's not just Star Trek, it's basically the entire science fiction genre. Why are people all of a sudden acting like this is the dumbest thing anyone has ever done in a movie?

      It's because they had people wearing helmets and then taking them off. If you look at Star Trek, they have people not wearing helmets but they also have aliens everywhere who all look like humans and can have children with humans, they have people with psychic powers, the computers look like old mainframes from the 1950s, the ships all go on the same plane for no reason, everyone just ignores that because it's not what the story is about.

The engineers was just a reason for the Alien story to kick off, humans find advanced civilization in space they find advanced civilization(engineers) but stumble across another species(Aliens) in space that begins to spread and now its up to humans to stop it from getting into evil humans who want to use the Alien species as a weapon

    I actually liked this movie because it was a direct sequel to Prometheus and successfully tied Prometheus into the Alien franchise. I also think the way they tied both movies together was done quite well and seemed to go over lots of people's heads.
    Of course I didn't think they were anywhere near as good as Alien or Aliens, but I don't really expect those movies to be topped. I expected to be entertained and immersed and these movies did that, much more-so than the other movies of the franchise (Alien 3 and Resurrection).
    I understand why some people wouldn't like it but I'm not too into Sci-Fi most of the time anyways. This fits my Sci-fi tastes quite well. I think as a couple, Prometheus and Covenant are a solid duo.

I thought Chappie would be batter with Terri Tatchell being a co-writer again, but nope. Honestly including fucking Die Antwood and having Hugh Jackman being this ridiculous 1 dimensional bad guy is what ruined the whole movie for me. It's a shame because I liked Chappie by himself, and the CGI of him was mind blowing. SO in other words, I doubt Blomkamp would have saved this Alien movie.

When I watched the premiere in my town, there was this bunch of dyed noisy unrespectful not so young adults who were making all kinds of noise and comments, laughing at their occurrences, who couldn't do anything but shut up after 'that' scene happened. One very interesting theme that they totally get rid off, or forget, is that the alien is interesting because it's arguably smarter than the humans. That's never the case in this film. The alien has been dumbed down for some reason. Remember when the main character lures the alien into that big vehicle before pushing it out of the air lock? That seemed so easy. The alien should have been smarter than to fall for that.

    Along with the original, this is my favorite Alien film. It’s a solid horror movie as much as a sci fi- and (at places) action movie. The atmosphere is so unsettling; the way the planet feels both so vast and “alive” yet completely devoid of life - it just gets to me. The awesome soundtrack plays a big part in this as well. David is a great villian with interesting motives; played amazingly by Fassbender. In a lot of ways I find him even scarier than the creatures. Not that it lacking in that department - the infestation/incubation scenes with the crew I found especially unnerving (and repulsive), yet I couldn’t look away. And the final showdown(s) with the xenomorph at the end? Come on - that’s grade A Alien material.

    The time delay after a facehugger gets you is kind of critical. It's what set up the iconic scene of the original movie. Without the gestation time and the recovery of the host you wouldn't have the whole crew eating around a table to witness the xenomorph bursting out of the chest. Instead it would have happened in the med-bay with one or two witness.

    The point about the movie getting too sad too quick is really interesting. I've noticed this theme in a lot of new movies lately.
    To name a few; Godzilla. Huge emotional arc at the very beginning involving Bryan Cranstons character which ends with him dying (and btw, alot of the promo material was about him and he dies immediately?). Its just too much too early, I didnt get to have any feelings about him or the situation before it was already over, and I was just left annoyed about how the movie was trying to force me to feel sad. Man of Steel. Epic emotional CG story about superman's parents right off the bat. Are we really supposed to care this much about these characters we only met two seconds ago?

    Actually fun fact the sequel to aliens with sigorny weaver was by a different director but ridely Scott decided he wanted to make a trilogy out of Prometheus so after alien covenant the next one is alien awakening, and since ridely Scott decided to make a trilogy fox scrapped the sequel to aliens by micheal blompkamp, sorry I probably butchered the names but that's how it actually happened.

    To the youtube commenter it may concern. Your opinion matters and it's equally important as anyone elses, even if it's illogical and/or subjective. All of the internet needs to hear your opinion.
