  • All of the complications mentioned above take time to develop, but hypoglycaemia can have an onset of just a few minutes and is potentially fatal. As hypoglycaemia is the most common complication of insulin therapy all practitioners need to be able to recognise and treat it.

It is best to wear a medi bracelet for anyone to be alerted to your condition. Drops happen quickly so keep an eye on the time since your last meal. After having adopted a low carb diet....I am so much better. No episodes.😊🎯😊Thank you Dr.

Acute defence to Hypoglycemia - decrease in insulin
    Then glucagon ( 2nd defence/ 1 st counter regulatory event 65-70 )
Epinephrine / norepinephrine ( palpitation tremors anxiety )
    4 -8 hr GH/CORTISOL ( 3rd defence )
Concept of threshold to chronic serum glucose )

It would be great if someone could understand that giving a hypoglycaemic sugar etc stimulates the production of insulin which therefore makes the problem worse. Dr Berg suggests protein and fat. Of course, a crisis can be averted with sugar if a person is passing out. I am talking about the general treatment of low blood sugar.

Well, normally we eat when we have low blood sugar for sure, and many diets are too high in sugar and carbs. However, the worst and most dangerous forms of hypoglycaemia are caused by injecting too much insulin, when we need to give sugar, in fact we sometimes give intravenous glucose or dextrose to treat severe hypoglycaemia.

As someone sharpening their T1D knowledge being diagnosed in the last 2 years, I'm yet to really suffer from a severe hypo in public but my mother has been through the situation where she needed help and people presumed she was drunk. Hopefully that is never me...

I get easily these episodes if I don’t eat. Why can’t my body use the available fat? Any way to help this process ?

Not sure I understand how diabetics get hypoglycemic.
In type 1, no insulin is produced, and so blood sugar levels should remain high (unless someone accidentally overdoses on insulin shots, then I could see how hypoglycemia results).
In type 2, even if there was a surge of insulin into the body, it wouldn't make them hypoglycemic b/c the cellular receptors are numb to the effects of insulin.
I guess if someone doesn't eat they will become hypoglycemic, but then their body would just produce glucagon to raise glucose levels--and it doesn't seem as though diabetes affects the pancreas' ability to produce glucagon.

+oopalonga Causes of hypoglycaemia are too much insulin, alcohol, not eating enough after insulin, vomiting after insulin, exercise, oral hypoglycaemics.

      Dr. John Campbell thanks

    • @Campbellteaching

It is caused by treatments to lower blood sugar, sometimes exercise or alcohol
