Michael Romanello, I drove up to AK from northern IL back in '84 (solo) in 31 days. During the planning stage, I decided a trip to AK wouldn't be complete without a trip across the Arctic Circle. So, I took a 2-day tour from Anchorage to Kotzebue, where I stayed overnight, and got to see the Midnight sun, then flew from there to Nome. Seeing as how all 3 are above the tree line, they look somewhat similar, though it tends to boggle your mind that this is in the same country as tropical Hawaii and the Gulf states, the SW deserts, and the Great Plains. What variety there is in the USA.
I worked in Prudhoe for 12 years total, the last stint was for 10 years. I am from N. Illinois too, Rockford. My wife and I live 25 miles outside of Fairbanks. In the video, the driver took the long way to get to camp, but I'm glad he did, brought back some memories. I left the slope in 2021, miss the wildlife but not being away from home.
@@danking9532, Rockford here as well--down near Mulford and Harrison. How 'bout that! As far as wildlife goes, I got to see my first black and grizzly bears, moose, arctic ground squirrel, and a wolverine, and in Jasper or Banff I saw some stone sheep (related to Dall sheep), and on a trip into Canada about 20 yrs. ago to see polar bears in Churchill, I also saw ringed seals, and a snowy owl.
If you work for Cruz you know my neighbor Matt V. I worked on a seismic crew in Kuparuk in the winter of 79-80. Then worked well logging as a rigger and a tech for over 8 years. Then I worked in communications which included the old mobile phones and paging system. My last gig was over 8 years at the big earth station by Pump station 1 ending in 13. I also got to spend many years at pump stations. It was exciting time when all the infrastructure was being built in the early 80s. Those were exciting times. Sadly 2 co-workers died in accidents up there back in the 80s.
I had a neighbor that worked there many years ago.his name is John. He retired and made a Smoked BBQ Truck where he sets up around the Wasilla area. My older brothers late GF named Lynn worked there also. That’s when many in catering were union workers.
@@rnv71950 I might have seen you over there at PBOC. I used o get invited over from time to time. I worked for Dresser Altas the for 5 years as a tech and got to know a lot of the engineers over there.
@@Chris_at_Home Those we’re the days! I was cooking on the 9:30p- 9:30a shift. 12 hours on/ 12off, 8 weeks on 2 weeks off. Sometimes 10 on, 2 off. Excellent food. Baker was insane. Commercial boxed desserts didn’t exist.
I worked as a baker at the Aurora Hotel in 2012. Doyon wanted to hire me not long beforehand and was going to pay me only $14 an hour to be a baker and first cook. This was 2012! They probably paid the same wages in the 80’s!
Hi, this is 'Road Trip Plus', RUclipsr. Is there any retail gas station for the public in Prudhoe Bay? I have a plan road trip to Alaska next July with my motor vehicle group and we want to be Deadhorse. Can we get there without an extra gas can? I appreciate it if you reply. Thank you. God bless you.
@@michaelromanello9462 How much of the Dalton is now paved? I used to drive to Fairbanks one week of my shift in Prudhoe. I also spent 61/2 years working out of PS5. Its a hell of a lot better than Prudhoe down there. Do tell my boss, but I made the trip from Prudhoe to where our office was In Fairbanks in 8 hours and 20 minutes one time. Those diesel Excursions can really crank. I’m retired now.

You almost showed the cowboys of the slope. Northern energy services. Best company I ever worked for.
Bunch of scabs.
Very interesting. Thanks!
This looks more like a mars colony than a city on earth.
