  • I had a request for this tune a while ago and found it on a recording by a great band, Open the Door for Three. It's a lovely jig and one that I didn't know, so I'm glad for the suggestion - keep them coming!

In my modest opinion you could teach the tune fully ornamented from the begining playing all the embelishments slowly as the main notes. The video would be shorten and clear. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge.

A popular local pub (Windsor, ON.) is called The Kildare House, so this tune is in regular rotation among trad players around here.

Ahhh nice! I should have mentioned that this tune goes by a few different names - OD43 whom I learned it from calls it Let Us Leave That As It Is.

I love you channel - it's improved my playing so much over the past while moving from beginner to intermediate. I've started playing in sessions with a few friends lately and this version you teach is way more intricate and nicer sounding than the session version I hear. I'm just wondering - can they go together? Or is this version kind of a solo style of the tune, but in a session you'd have to play it more straight? I'm from Kildare myself, happy to stumble across this tune, sounds great for busking in Dublin!

Weirdly, I have never learned this tune on any instruments. I am off the whistle again at the moment due to my damned RSI but once I can play again I think I will learn it - been looking for something to pair with The Rakes of Clonmel (which I got from a Dervish record) and this seems like an obvious candidate!

Can't go wrong with anything from Dervish!

I love this, what a fabulous tune, it comes across as dark and sinister to me, which I guess is certainly representative of a wife abusing, womanising rake rather than the more popular take of a wealthy libertine. This one is a definite keeper, the tempo is perfect and even at the slower pace holds it's own.
    Cheers 😎🎙🎶✅

Yeah it had never crossed my radar for some reason but it's lovely - check out Open the Door for Three's version too, it's wicked!
