Yeah, good video. I almost bought an FX6 even though I’m not even close to using the full potential. I just thought clients would feel more at ease when I bring something so “professional”. But my friend talked me out of it. Rocking the A7C at the moment.

I haven’t gone into debt to get any gear and don’t plan on it. I hate debt. lol My struggle is not spending every cent I make towards my business on gear. I’m only a year in so I am still getting what I feel are some essentials for what I shoot. i would like a monitor, but since I don’t have the money, I refuse to buy. I try to really consider if I really need it and will I still be using it down the road. Shooting with my iPhone knowing I wanted a camera, I tried to only buy gear that would crossover to a camera once I purchased one. There were a couple of things that wouldn’t, but If it was a big purchase, that had to be the case for me personally. The biggest purchase I made for my iPhone was the DJI osmo 4. No updated ones because it gets the job done. My biggest purchase has been my Mac which I had cash for. Currently looking to purchase my first lens because I want to be able to get a wider shot than what the starter lens gives with the zve10, but i just have to make it work until I can find what I feel I can use for multiple situations. I’m not sure if I need a wide lens the most or a zoom lens. I don’t want or need a million lenses. lol

Gear acquisition syndrome is real. I bought my ZV-E10 September last year with the kit lens, I quit my job and started freelancing as a creative consultant there was a 2 month overlap so I had some disposable income, it was great until i started watching photography videos I quickly found myself wanting expensive gear but the thought of spending that much on something that was essentially a hobby of mine made me queasy 😂 I also had no idea what I enjoyed shooting most. I went to a Sony festival and I think this is what saved me, because instead of watching RUclips videos and maybe even getting bad advice online I got to opportunity to have real world experience with all the pricey stuff I was looking at online. By the end of it I'd gotten some solid advice and found out the focal lengths I enjoyed shooting most.
After a little more searching I discovered vintage lenses with adaptors and I bought a TT Artisan 50 f1.2 and a 25mm f2. I used various focal lengths from a 10mm all the way up to a 600mm catadioptric lens, along the way I discovered film photography but that's a beast all to its own. The downside to all this was using all these lenses with MF which isn't difficult at all especially using focus peaking. About 3 months ago I finally settled on the 18-200mm f3.5 as a general carry around and as far as primes go this month I got a 60mm f2.8 Sigma DN A and the TT Artisan 27mm f2.8. I now understand the limitations of my gear but I'm also finding creative ways around them. Doing it this way has allowed me cover responsibilities and save while still letting me enjoy my camera.
It's currently rigged out with some smallrig goodies that make most people think it's some top of the line cinema camera but when I explain how it started as an entry level vlogging camera, it blows their minds 🤣 Especially when I meet other photographers with A7s or similair and they see how capable it is in such a small form factor

Only buy what you can pay cash for! Great video and great advice! Wish I had someone give me this type of advice when I was 20. I had to learn the hard way but at least I learned!

*THANK YOU! Someone who understands and Get's it. I bought my fx30 because I can afford it but I'm not going to spend a TON of Money on Lens and Lights and other various gear that doesn't help me on My RUclips Journey. But the Gear I have is more then enough, but I do and will buy One more camera as a secondary camera But I'm not looking too make RUclips a F/T Job as I already have an Amazing Job, but Finally someone else who gets it's. I've made a few videos and even did a live One on Why Gear doesn't matter as we all have a budget on what we can and can't get and I think some people are just enamored with the latest and Greatest*

Keep in mind, the entirety of the last Apple event was shot on iPhone. Yeah with a lot of supporting rigs and stuff, but at its core, they did that with 🤳
So yeah, no need to get debt trapped. Take your phone out of your pocket.

What purchase have you made that's beyond your financial limits? If you haven't purchased beyond your limits, how do you stay on track?

I think people don’t really plan anymore. It’s like right now. I want it right now mentality. I appreciate the words of advice.

Not exactly beyond my financial limits, but my utilization: the FX30. I found myself stupid for being able to produce the same exact objectively decent results with the ZV-E10 anyway.

Great video! Sometimes the question we need to be asking is what value does this bring? I recently bought the iPhone 15 Pro Max because I thought it would help with my video content creation. Now I’m realizing the phone is a phone. So I just purchased the Sony EZV10 it actually arrives today. And I’m asking the question right now did I over purchase? As I have no background in photography or videography. It’s not gonna break the bank but I’m hoping it adds value by separating my video from my iPhone. Time will tell.
