    Not to start anything but my personal favorite Spider-Man is this one right here. For once he looks like a teenager in high school. When Peter is talking Ned into disabling the "training wheels protocols" he complains that Tony treats him like a kid, as he jumps up and down on the motel bed. LOL

    this version of spiderman is much more comic book accurate. He makes jokes when fighting bad guys pretty often. I will say though he does have an arc in later movies where he grows more mature with his age of course. so its not like hes a high school kid every movie. tom holland is my favorite mainly because of the accuracy of the comics and the broader story of the mcu including him

      From what I understand the writers also took into account the criticism that movies like batman and other popular comic book movies rehashing the origins of a character that they had seen so many times before. By this point everyone knows how Peter Parker gets his powers you can gloss over it with the conversation he has with Ned and continue on with the story and show how he grows into portraying Spiderman.

    Two things about this movie: 1) Toomes look is to mimic a Vulture, with the fire of his collar looking like the feathers around the vulture's neck.
    2) the scene where Peter let's all the debris us from an actual Spider-Man comic. It's from a story sc m arc called "If This Be My Destiny". In the comic, Doctor Octopus buries him under tons of rubble and threatens to hurt innocent people and the ones he loves. This is when Spider-Man did drop and realizes he had to protect everyone.

    First, I like the choice of calling the movie Homecoming; not just because of the dance, but also because (due to the arrangement Marvel had with Sony) this was the first Spider-Man movie made by Marvel, sort of celebrating his homecoming to the MCU. The comic has been going since the 60s, so there are lots of versions of Spider-Man. I loved the earlier movie versions but think I like this version more, because the constantly wise-cracking high school Peter is closer to what I remember from when I was reading the comics many years ago. And yes, everyone is attracted to Aunt May. I, like many others, have had a crush on Marissa Tomei for decades.

    Everything that they show Peter’s suit doing is because of what happened to Tony previously. The automatic parachute was from when Tony was unconscious and fell in the first Avengers movie. Really loved this film. The biggest complaint i see from Spider-Man fans is relating to how Spider-Man is so connected to Tony Stark and the world of the Avengers so early in his Spider-Man journey, even getting his first real suit from Tony Stark. But i do think this put's a nice spin on the character connecting him to Tony like Peter's the son Tony always wanted. I think fans just wanted Peter to work his way to the top like the comics where he begins all by himself with only his friends and Aunt May and over the course of years develops relationships with The Fantastic Four, Avengers, Daredevil, X-Men etc. Its not until his college years that Spider-Man started to take part in big crossovers and by Civil War in the comics Peter was in his early to mid 20s.
    The reason why we didn't get an origin story is mostly nicety because both Spider-Man (2002) and The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) already went over the whole origin story and I don' think Sony wanted to do that again for the MCU. But Marvel back during The Avengers (2012) did come to Sony with the idea of adding Oscorp Tower in the New York Skyline of Avengers which would've connected The Amazing Spider-Man to the MCU with Andrew Garfield. This never happened and when Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014) was being worked on Marvel came to Sony with the idea of adding Age of Ultron's Avengers Tower to the Manhattan Skyline in Amazing Spider-Man 2 but once again this never happened.
    Then Amazing Spider-Man 2 released and it didn't do the best so Sony and Marvel finally made the deal to add a new Spider-Man to the MCU. If we got Spider-Man earlier for the MCU then we'd most likely have an origin story with a few solo Spider-Man films throughout High School and College and then introduce Spider-Man into the world of The Avengers with Civil War, maybe have a scene in one of the Spider-Man films where Peter meets Iron Man for the first time while attending College putting him in his early 20s for Civil War.
    Ned is a very interesting character pretty much replacing Harry Osborn as Peter's best friend for this movie. Edward "Ned" Leeds was a reporter for the Daily Bugle, and the abusive husband of Betty Brant who is played by Angourie Rice in this film, yeah I can see why he was changed for the film. The Ned we see in this film is much more inspired by Ganke Lee the friend of Miles Morales AKA Spider-Man of Earth-1610, The Ultimate Universe. Again Harry was used in the other movies so I can see why they wanted to go for someone else.
    In the Mainline comics Peter doesnt meet Harry, Gwen or MJ until he attends College so maybe they'll introduce Harry later down the line

    Spider-Man isn't supposed to be more grown up and serious. He's supposed to be a smart-ass wisecracking high school kid who's younger than, and in many ways more immature than most other Marvel heroes. Tom Holland's Spider-Man is a much more faithful adaptation of the Spider-Man from the comics than Tobey Maguire's or Andrew Garfield's, and that has way more to do with the writing than anything else.

    The thing is that Peter was getting serious tunnel vision during the first half of the movie, he was so desperate to be an Avenger that his head was'nt on straight and he began to rely too much on his new suit. And it all came to a head on the ferry where he put himself at a huge disadvantage against an enemy who can fly and has access to very destructive weapons. His arc in this movie is learning to love the Peter Parker part of his life and accepting that he still has growing up to do as a hero. Tony also had to learn how to be a good mentor in this movie, he failed to communicate to Peter that he had been listening and had he done so Toomes would've been arrested right there on the Ferry. Remember without the suit Toomes is just a guy and he knew that.

    For us really old Spider Man comic book fans Tom Holland is much closer to the OG.
    Peter Parker is an awkward teenager, but when he's Spidey he's very snarky. Like when he confronts the ATM robbers and says "Whoa! The Avengers! Good to see you guys" Classic Spidey talk.
    His mentorship with Tony gives us the Stark hi tech Spidey suit, which is awesome.
    Also, the fur around Keaton's neck is a nid to the original Vulture. In the comics he is a really old, skinny man, with a green wing suit and white collar. Thus version is much better.
    I own all the Spider Man movies and I think Holland captured the duality of Peter/ Spidey the best. The acebe where he realizes Liz's dad is the Vulture is played so well. Holland plays it so well, as he just fumbles with the sudden Holy Shit! moment. It's so good, because we know why, but Toomes thinks he's just nervous about his date with his daughter.
    Soon enough you"ll understand why us comic book fans feel this is the best Spidey 😁

    • @TheChiraagG
      @TheChiraagG 6 месяцев назад

      Yup, I thought Tobey's Peter was awkward enough and Andrew's was a bit too charismatic, but Andrew's Spidey had the snark and even though Tobey's did it didn't feel as natural or razor sharp. It doesn't help some of the script he was given has aged in worse ways. Tom's combines both in a much tidier balance. As far as romance arcs go, Andrew and Emma Stone's chemistry was electric, Tobey and Kirsten's whole thing just got on my nerves if I'm honest and Tom and Zendaya's is, again, a good middle ground.

      @@TheChiraagG Good summary. I agree with virtually everything you say. Although, I think I like Zendayah's MJ more than Emma's Gwen. That's not because there's anything wrong with Stone's performance, it was great. It's just the snarky performance by Z was great. Her reply of "I just come here to draw people in crisis" had me laughing so much. Some people might argue that's not MJ from the comic books. I don't care. I'm old (as old as Spidey himself) and know the comic book MJ well, diverting from the comic book doesn't bother me 😁

    • @TheChiraagG
      @TheChiraagG 6 месяцев назад

      @@caseybean1305 oh yeah she's a great MJ, I enjoy the snark and it works well for the teenage setting. Again nothing bad but that chemistry between Gwen and Peter is great. Both Zendaya's MJ and Emma's Gwen are resourceful, smart etc with Kirsten's MJ falling into damsel in distress tropes too much. That's more the product of the writing of the immature comic movie adaptation landscape at the time though I think.
      Also, Toomes as played by Keaton is excellent, agreed. His motivation is understandable and his redeeming elements are just teetering on the right side (not giving up Peter when in prison, not killing him outright beforehand and giving him a chance to remove himself from his business).

    • @caseybean1305
      @caseybean1305 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@TheChiraagG Absolutely agree, Keaton's Toomes was fantastic. The car scene with Peter is one of the best and most tense scenes in the entire MCU, thanks to Keaton.
      Just behind the car scene is the reveal moment. They got me there. When Liz's front door opened and it was Toomes I felt the same shock as Peter. Holland played that whole scene perfectly I could feel his almost spinning disorientation, as he tried to process the shock.
      Don't get me wrong. Stone's Gwen was great and I even like Durst. Although your observation of her as too much damsel in distress is probably fair. That, as you pointed out, s likely writing, not Durst.
      I like things about each one of them. That's why NWH is so great.
      Holland comes closest though to capturing Peter completely. The scene in Civil War where he says..... "You have a metal arm? Cool" That is so Spidey. Or as Falcon has hold of him and is flying away and Peter is saying "you have the right to remain silent" 😂😂 That's the Spidey I know and love. 😁

    9:39 Not that it's going to change much but for both Spider-Man (2002) and The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) they were both bitten at 17 instead of 15 like the comics and of the MCU so I guess it's better than them trying to pass as 15 year olds but still they don't pass as 17 even though some 17 years old look like their much older.
    For those original films I think they just wanted to get Peter out of the High School environment as in the comic Peter graduated high school in The Amazing Spider-Man #28 (1965) so that's only 28 issues of Peter being a High School student. Most of Spider-Man's important stories took place while he was in College or after he graduated in ASM #185 (1978) so for the films they just wanted to skip most of the High School setting as they can so they made Peter get bitten two years later.
    The reason why alot of people today think the High School setting was a much bigger part of Spider-Mans lore is thanks to Ultimate Spider-Man. This was a new re-imagined and modernized universe beginning with Ultimate Spider-Man (2000). This Spider-Man run solely focused on Peter as a High Schooler while also bringing in MJ, Gwen, and Harry into the same environment rather than Peter meeting them at College. The The Spectacular Spider-Man (2008-2009) cartoon did the same thing by focusing on his High School years and so alot of people grew up with a High School Peter Parker.
    For older Spider-Man fans who grew up on the Mainline comics the High School setting played a tiny part and went by in a few issues. It's why the 1990s Spider-Man Animated Series took place during Peter's College Years as that's what alot of people grew up reading.

    Liz not having a date for the homecoming dance is probably *the* most unrealistic part of this entire movie. IRL, I guarantee it she'd have already been asked by about 10 guys with 1 confirmed yes, 3 immediate back-up guys, and at least 3 additional "just in case" guys hanging around in her orbit.🤔

It's been covered so many times in movies, TV shows and comics, seeing it AGAIN would be pretty boring and, honestly, in my opinion a bit unneeded. This way, they have more time to focus on the new stuff, like his relationship with Tony.

  • @carlgibson285
    @carlgibson285 7 месяцев назад +1

    Great reaction! The MCU version of Spider-Man is probably the closest to the comics version when it comes to his personality, both as Peter and as Spider-Man, and I like the fact that Tom Holland looks and acts like a teenager. That was the whole selling point of Spider-Man when Stan Lee and Steve Ditko first created him - he was the same age as the kids who were reading the comics, so readers could relate to him far more than they could relate to a 40 year-old millionaire like Tony. Up until then, teens in comics were always relegated to being a side-kick, such as Robin (Batman), Bucky (Captain America), Speedy (Green Arrow), etc. Spider-Man was the first time that a teenage hero had their own solo comic and it's one of the reasons he became so popular.
    I wasn't a fan of giving Spider-Man the Stark-tech suit at first, but I guess it makes sense in the context of the MCU and the relationship they built up between Peter and Tony.

    Fun fact: Donald Glover being here is a big reference to BTS production and comic stuff. Donald Glover was up for the role of Peter in The Amazing Spider-Man (2012), and was even Stan Lee's pick for the role (Lee believed race was inconsequential for Peter). Glover lost the role to Garfield largely due to Sony's contract literally saying Peter had to be white, and in response, comic writer Brian Michael Bendis created the character of Miles Morales using Glover as a model, to have a black Spider-Man in the comics. The character Glover plays in this film is Aaron Davis, who is the uncle of Miles Morales.
