Yes,I agree. It will be a more useful space to level out the terraces or create new ones. It will help stabilize the land but also help with the water runoff. This way the gardens will thrive since the water will stay instead of running nutrients down the hill to the river.

So, you should build an irrigation canal for the drain water. With diversions for your garden beds. You can reuse it for garden usage while directing it back into the ground water in an environmentally safe process. It is also super easy to test there so if it becomes imbalanced for what ever reason, I would build diversion block gates to direct the water straight through to protect the crops.
hey maya! the pieces of wood you were carrying in the start would be easier to carry on your shoulders. you can use a small pillow or a folded towel to make it more comfortable! they wont be dangling in front of your feet that way, could be a trip hazard in your terrain!

I am glad you have been able to find workers for your project. I have a couple of friends who have had difficulty in Portugal finding good workers that show up. It is simply another factor that adds to the complexity of getting a job like this completed. I am so happy for you to be motivated to get what you want from life. You can use the stones to make retaining walls so your soil doesn't move every water season. Plus you can use them to make the outer part of your house walls like stone walls.

I suggest you get some big rocks and place around the limits of the underground tanks so in the future nobody will drive over them and crush.
The swim and sunbathe after so much hard work looked very satisfying.
You need to make a simple X-frame to hold all those logs securely as you saw them up for firewood - good uncomplicated work for volunteers!

Hi Maya: You could dig a 2 foot wide, two foot deep trench and fill it will all those rocks just under the pipe leading over the terrace edge. That might help avoid erosion. Also, planting something immediately to take root while the soil is still warm will help. Take care, DA

Just a little tip, I've notice at 2:45 that you pulled with your back. If you want to prevent back injuries and many problems! Try to push with your legs up instrad of pulling your self up with your back, you will see that you have mpre strengh that way to !
Finaly, just an idea, you know with the house you renovated there is a small place where there was a roof over the entrance balcony, instead of doing a roof, you could do a pergola! That would be really nice with lights and plants on top!

how about using some of that pile of rock to make an area where the water drains down from that outlet so you can have a small waterfall, then maybe a rock filled trench under that area to take the water past without flooding the surface, then build your garden on top.
That is such a great achievement and will be so worth the effort when you get to flush the toilet for the first time. Well done!

You should build som protection over the lids and vent-pipe, for both mechanical and UV damages..
Maya, Congratulations regarding the completion of the sewage system. Recommendation : Make covers for the plastic top parts of the 2 tanks showing. Reason: Plastic quickly deteriorates in the hot sun.
The covers should not touch the Plastic top parts. These covers can be made out of wood with holes on the sides so that the hot air inside the covers can escape.
For example, the covers can be made from discarded wooden pallets or even wood from the forest bound together with rope. Without covers in the hot Portugal sun, my guess is that the plastic will show signs of disintegration within 2 years.
