I admire your work ethic. You have such a strong will to get things done! We built a new chicken run and chicken coop. That was exhausting. I'm 63 years old and it took longer than I expected. Building our little homestead is a lot for me. But the result makes me happy.
Harried , tienes toda mi admiración. Eres una persona súper fuerte , tanto física como psicológicamente y siempre tienes una sonrisa , no cambies nunca . Desde Madrid un beso para los tres 💚💚💚
It makes my heart happy that you count with Mauro’s family & friends to help you out with the harder jobs!! It’s looking amazing!! Harriet you are one of harder working women I know!! Much love ❤️ from Kentucky!! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Santi has such a sweet smile it warms my heart how he is watching all that you guys do. I was exhausted from watching you take down the old chicken area. The new enclosure is going to be fantastic
If you have doubts about the roof covering, you could use straps of some kind to hold it down. If you see it's fading because of the UV from the sun, you could double the cover with something that's UV resistant. If you've go an older tree stump the chicken can enjoy using that as a kind of roost for now. You two have worked very hard getting the animals in a better place, the changes with the birds might take a while until they settle down. Santi is so curious, he's interested in everything.
I have to say: I am so NOT a kid person, never goo and gah over strangers' babies, and have remained child-free myself, and YET...seeing the mutual pleasure between Mauro and Santi at 2:27 melted my heart.
Wow, Harriet, you're amazing at creating new structures from old pieces of furniture, etc, I'm so impressed, and, also I'm imagining a big bonfire in the winter burning all the old scraps you can't use anymore. Maybe at Samhain! Good job on the chicken structure. About the cat... my cat kills everything, lizards, birds, butterflies, baby rabbits, rodents, pretty much anything that moves. She looks confused when I congratulate her on the rodents, then admonish her about the other things.
Good job. You are such a hard worker it makes me exhausted just watching you work, but you are starting to rule the land, Mother Earth is going to bless you! ❤️💕❣️
No the goats are not back, we won’t have goats again till we have the new field fenced. The donkey is fine, giving us lots of lovely manure and enjoying carob season, I’m sure he’ll be happier in his new field with his new friend.
Great job, lucky chickens! ❤ I'm sure you know this but if you put the bottom part of the fencing in concrete it stops animals digging underneath or escaping. There are lots of javalies where we are and this stops them pulling the fence up out of the ground.💪
Hard work in the Sun..... but looking more productive for the Egg machines😁😁Lesson of the day, Harriet builds stronger than she thinks...😂🤣😂That old koop and poles were almost permanent👍👍😁. Be blessed you all🙏🙏🙏
Harriet there is a little hand tool that helps you to twist the metal easily ❤. I think theyre called a rebar tie wire twister. And it twists in seconds. You guys are doing a fantastic job! It was a joy to see little Santi❤
Harriet you are just a little dynamo I think we will have to call you wonder woman. Love watching your little family and seeing all your plans coming together
Hey can you give us a tutorial on building that metal polytunnel please? Or a brief summary of materials(components) if at all possible? Love your videos.
You could get some canvas and make a large tent for visitors and volunteers. Even put a little kitchen at one end with a camping stove so they could make coffee or tea in the morning. Even stick a solar shower in the corner.
Put 6-8 wheels on your temporary run and move it to a new spot in your big field once a week. Your birds will eat everything available, scratch up the dirt, add manure to the soil, and your field will slowly turn over.
Yesss we were thinking of turning it into something mobile. But I don’t know how to put wheels on without therefore creating a big gap at the bottom. I’m sure there are designs, I need to research it…
@@LittleSpanishFarmstead Harrod Hi-Raise wheels would be a good option, but quite pricey. You only really need 5cm of clearance, that may be enough to keep most birds in. You could add a wood border that you move separately to keep predators out.
I had great success with electric fencing (solar powered). My brother uses a movable electric fence and a movable coop so he do fresh ground every so often.
I absolutely adore your videos!! Like many others I have a huge appreciation for you sharing your journey there 😊I feel so comforted to know there are others out there living a similar dream and it is so exciting to see all the progress you make. I have been on a similar path for 1.5 years and just finished working full time so can finally put more time where I want to- on the farm! I find many synchronicities with the many stages, projects, difficulties and vast learning curves (both on the land and learning a new language, navigating life in a new country) you share in your videos... Nice job on the new coop! Funnily enough I also purchased a similar coop yet have to admit it has been sat in the box for weeks!! Hopefully it will get its time soon 🐓 I've found 'temporary' fixes often seem to have more permanence than originally anticipated and some (most) jobs take far longer than expected. Its all fun though and I feel so happy to be finally on this wild journey to being a subsistence farmer 👩🌾I've never felt so at home as I do now, and still have a long way to go with restoring our old house. All the best to you and your lovely family 💕
Aw thank you so much! Haha I hope this gives you inspiration to get the new coop up, it was much easier than we expected and wish we’d gone for something like that for our first setup!
@LittleSpanishFarmstead it definitely did!! It's finally being pushed back up the to do list and I'm excited to get it done, it's a job that in theory should be easy and it's always nice to tick those off while tackling the more long winded/never ending jobs heheh. Thank you 😊
the enclosure looks great just a tip for you if you are twisting a lot of wires use a cordless drill lock the 2 ends in the drill chuck then when it turns it twists really fast faster than doing it with pliers
I can sympathise with you how hard work it is to remove posts out of the ground. We are moving to a new lifestyle block and I have been removing old waratahs and posts from old trees that are to be removed. Sometimes no matter how much you wiggle it back and forth it just gets stuck. Good workout though. Ha. You are making great progress with everything.
22:17 so Harriet, for next time there is a product here (England) called postmix concrete. Which works slightly differently bc you pour the dry mix into the hole and then pour water on top it. If you can find it that might also be worth a try. Also… can you please take your scarf off when you’re using that power tool, really don’t want you to strangle yourself! Ps. So cute to see Santi crawling, baby in a box ☺️
Unfortunately where they are in Spain, dry mix cement would solidify very unevenly. They're better off adding some lime or cement mix and adding water.
Ah I was thinking of something like that but the shop didn’t have it, glad I know about it now though as it might come in useful for something in the future!
@@LittleSpanishFarmstead aww such a shame, there has been a very low amount of wasps here in the UK this year, are they fairing better in Spain? Love your videos though!
How hot is it? You keep saying how hot it is and everything‘s hot. I’m in Texas and we’re we can get up to 110 but right now I think we’re like at 90 but with really high humidity it so it’s gonna feel like 100.
It’s not really hard labour 😂He works in the morning and in the afternoon is with Santi, while I have a break, get outside and work on this stuff. That’s the system that works for us atm.
Harriet you need to reconsider your use of sunscreen on a small child...modern humans are chronically lacking in vitamin D.. I remember when my son was an infant back in the day doctors then did not advise against the sun quite the contrary they insisted you leave, from the time they're born a child out in their stroller in the Sun for minimum 20 minutes everyday I know the atmosphere has changed but human beings were designed by nature to spend at least 85% of their time Outdoors modern humans spend 2% Outdoors... limit his exposure and put a hat on him and let him walk barefoot on the Earth's surface❤
I don’t know where you live but he’d be burnt to a crisp in 5 minutes here in the middle of the day, in Spain. He gets plenty of light when the UV is less intense on our early morning dog walks etc
My goodness Harriot, I really admire your work ethic. You just keep pushing on 👏👏👏
