Does GM kill pretty much everything?
YES
GM is the EA of the car industry
@@ironman1181 does GM has Microtransactions and Lootboxes? but in all other way, you are fucking right!
GM is like King Midas - only that whatever they put their fingers on turns to - well; you figure the correct term for 'nothing of any use' !
Yes. They sold Opel because of to low profit. Whilst also selling rebadged opels as Chevrolets with slightly Different design for cheaper. And totally not understanding european markets. So the consequence: sell opel and pull chevy (except cprvette) out of europe/at least germany. If you are thinking "wait, but then they can't sell cars to germans anymore, except those five Cadillacs a year" then you're.... absolutely right. Oops. GM also insisted on Opel selling a few rebadged cars that all sucked and after probelms occured (ex. Sintra crashtest...), only then opel was allowed to develope their own car...
At least the frontera was kinda good. But sintra, Antara and some others sucked. Oh, and they basically killed Vauxhall in the 80s/90s and made them sell only Opels with Different badges and no personality anymore.
Saab: Born from Jets. Killed by A$$holes! (GM)
It didn't help that Saab was sucking GM dry financially. They were given vehicles and told to change the badging and body and instead Saab spent millions reengineering the vehicles. However, they did make them somewhat better. I'll take a 9-7x Aero over a Trailblazer SS any day. My 06 9-7x Arc had some quirky problems but it sounded, handled, and performed better than it's GM counterparts - Chevy Trailblazer, Buick Rainier, Oldsmobile Bravada, GMC Envoy, AND Isuzu Axiom.
@@nrgzrbny "somewhat better" is the understatement of the century
@@nrgzrbny my opel vectra got so raped by saab aero (its kinda the same car) gm should have just let saab make the cars and rebadge theirs XD
@RavenousElf the transfer case control motor was a joke. Mine broke and it locked the front output. I had to replace the seal and CV half-shaft due to pitting from crow-hopping during slow speed turns. They should have just used the Torsion limited slip xfer case out of the Aero/SS on all models.
It also wreaked havoc in the snow. Doing 35mph, front output engaged. Everything fine. Person in front of me hits the brakes, I slow down, front output disengaged, rear wheels lose traction and speed up, front output engages, car jerks around in the snow and slides out of my lane. Over and over and over. Ended up on the side of the road slowly getting closer the cliff edge as I tried turning around. Never drove it in snow again.
Forgot about the Saab 9000 though... Those were legit kings of the road back in the days.

Love your enthusiasm dude.. Saab was a really good company. Before GM. Since i have worked for Saab for many years i can give you a cool story. When saab made the 9-3 sportswagon they got very strict instructions from GM on what they could spend money on. For example they should use the opel vectra satnav system. When the car was ready and some bigshots from GM where in Sweden to check it out, they discovered that in the car was a completely other satnav system alltogether. A much, much better system, designed and built by Saab. Of course they asked what the hell was going on, and the answer they got from the Saab technitions where simple: the system from the opel sucked. So they built a good one..
That is great. GM tried to tell them how to do things, SAAB looked at what GM wanted, and gave GM the middle finger
Wow
when gm owned 50% they wanted the interior to be gm but saab thought the interior was too bad so when gm sat down in the car they Said this is not our interior
The 9000 was the best saab
According to Jeremy Clarkson (while he was still hosting for Top Gear) the reason why GM actually sent somebody out to Sweden was that the project was getting too expensive and the "suites in Detroit" wanted to know why. Unless I'm mistaken, I believe Saab spent over $2 million dollars on that system. I can imagine that it is probably the biggest fuck you General Motors ever received.

Maaaaaan, you dropped the ball big time by not mentioning the only other 100% Swedish built Saab.. The 9000! This was a car that in 1993 when they came out with the Aero (sport) Edition, the Aero was capable of accelerating from 80 to 121 km/h (50 to 75 mph) faster than a Porsche Carrera 4 or a Ferrari Testarossa Not only that, but the car would get 32 mg on the highway from it's 2.3L Turbocharged engine and regularly push the speedometer past it's 155 mph printed number then past the last notch that would be 160 and pin the needle to the odometer reset button which was when judging by eye, would be another 10 mph at the least. All in stock form! I witnessed one with 170k miles on it do that speed with all five seats occupied, 4 windows down and sunroof open! Truly an amazing car and by fat the best Saab ever produced. I can vividly remember my dentist complaining when he traded in his 9000 with 200k miles on it for a brand new ( General Motors designed and built) Saab 9-3. He honestly went back to the dealership after owning th 9-3 for 2 days and demanded his old 9000 back only to have them say that the car was sent to auction. They set him up with a 9-5 Aero to try to give him a car that would compare to his 9000 and he was still disappointed. Oh, and when you gawk about the Viggen… it used the same engine as the 9000 Aero but stuck it in a GM built, flexible wantabe "sports car" chassis. The 9000 was designed so the center of the weight distribution was located at the drivers hips... essentially, as you cornered, you felt as if you were part of the car. I still own three of the,.. a first model year 93' 5 speed, a 94' 5 speed and a last model year 97' automatic. I'll never sell them... that is until 20-30 years from now when they are worth three times their $44,000 sticker price when they rolled off the showroom floor. Anyone who has ever owned one will back me up. The only other Saab that holds a stick to the 9000 Aero that Saab produced is a 900 SPG. I own 2 of those also!
Thats great! I own a 97 2.3t 9000 a50 with 255 BPH, and I love it!
I have a 2004 Saab 93 Aero that I have named Saabrina. People think Saabs are pretty dorky and such but I think they're pretty neat. I actually never knew the history before getting Saabrina but as a lover of airplanes, I just enjoy her heritage even more. Your video was awesome !
That little Saab at the beginning was actually the first transverse front engine FWD car, not the Mini as most people would believe.
hmmm interesting. thanks for the info.
Why every car company that GM gets its hands on has to disappera same with Hummer. Its better that they self disapper for once.
Why does GM insist on rebadging Opels?
Yeah, but will they offer the new Blazer with a V8? *BLAZER SS*
They are just eliminating the competition lol
@@_LEONKING_ And themselves. Seriously, who buys GM's? I know no one who would buy a GM, but I see so many at work, every day. They fucking suck! Why do people keep buying them?
True!
Thanks! Loved it. Although in my opinion you missed their greatest car the 9000 / 9-5. I had 2 of them, what a joy to drive. I used to zip around DC beltway traffic like it was standing still. Quality and Attention to detail was off charts, only car company I know of that had pink insulation in the doors. They were reliable only major work was a head gasket and clutch. At 170K miles i'm not complaining.
Driving a 900 turbo cabrio at the moment and i absolutely love it

Fuck GM.
At least Spyker understood what the Saab brand was and gave it all they had and actively planned an extended model range.
GM were absolutely clueless of what a Saab was only ever launched three new models over a period of nineteen years. I mean seriously, Saab was about sporty cars with a rally heritage and cool engineering. The absolutely first thing GM should've done when buying into Saab was to develop 4WD models and a new sports car. Instead, they gave those funds to Opel.
and damn you GM! >_
Got our brand new SAAB 9-3 red convertible anniversary model in 2002, absolutely still love it, looks like new, fun to drive, will never get rid of it. Love SAAB.
Something VERY SPECIAL for Saab was one of there Engines. Have you ever heared about the Saab SVC Engine? what the Japanese are doing and planing now, saab was making it at 2001. the first steps to a self Ignition Benzin Engine....Ok it was a Engine with variable Compression. A ratio from 14:1 to 8:1 by angling the Cylinder Head up to 4 degrees. 5 Cylinders 1,6l and over 300 Nm with 225 HP with the same fuel consuption as a normal 1,6l engine. and that in 2001. GM those Money Cunts striked the project down, cause of too much money (what a surprise).
saab had it, the engine was working, they used it in a 9-5 wagon. Imagine Saab would still exist or the engine was build in as a special Edition for 9-5 and 9-3. I love Saab so much for that!
I and we all should hate GM for that. The main inventor of the planned obsolescence, the shame as a car company, ruiner of so much beautiful in the car world (beside ecologicals)
GM SHOULD GO TO HELL FOREVER!!! (and tell the devil that for sure more Companies follow)

Thank you for doing a video on Saab. They are such a misunderstood and under appreciated car. I have had seven Saab's in the last 4 years and I do not plan to discontinue that trend. Here's the thing about Saab's. Once you own one, you get the Saab bug. After owning my '06 9-3 for a few years, I spent last year looking online and craigslist daily for another saab which is how I ended up finding a very low mileage '07 9-3 convertible. I'd love to own some 9-5's and some 900's too haha.
I had a 900 Turbo for about a year and a half as kind of a project. It was a real bastard to fix some stuff but I loved driving it. If you get a chance to own one you should
My first car was a '92 900. Caught the Saab bug instantly! Have since owned an '06 9-3, but was just desperate to have a pre-GM Saab back in my life, so now run a '97 9000 50th Anniversary alongside it. Awesome cars. But so much better pre-GM!
my dad had a 900 in brown i love it i named it Mr brown
Bought an '01 9-3S off my cousin, slowly going through the car and fixing/upgrading everything I touch on it. Thanks to the experience working on the 9-3 I started helping a friend with his '01 9-5, nearly ended up buying it from him so I would have a 4 door car again (I have 3 cars, all are 2 door cars...), I've narrowly avoided buying it but now find myself looking for a OG900 to tinker with :D
That 06 Saab is a Vectra. That Saab bug... hahahaha
My dad had a 99 Turbo in college, thing was so freaking cool. He abandoned it in his school parking lot because the transmission decided not to be a transmission anymore, and repair costs would've been more than what it was worth lol

Woah woah woah! What about the 9000?? I'm hurt!
Chad Gemzer He's over 9000
And the 95 Aero. Wtf happened, we waited for nothing!
Seriously...... he forgot the best platform Saab made. The 9000 aero was faster than the M3 when it came out. Also the last real Saab ever made.
My dad still drives his 9000i, I too would have wanted to hear about it.
Methinks the 9000 might get it's own episode? Seems too obvious to leave out. Also, early 2000s 9-5s were definitely real saabs.
I worked for a SAAB dealer when it was relaunched here in New Zealand. They (the 900i, 9000CS/CD/AERO) were so understatedly brilliant. Had one customer purchase an 9000 AERO, happy with the performance and power but wanted more. So with factory and Abott Racing (England) enhancements his AERO was insane to drive, by that I mean it wanted to be driven hard. I'll never forget that 9000.
What model also not mentioned was the 900S/SE (with the V6 (a bit nose heavy with a great engine sound)). Then came the 9-3, 9-3 AERO, 9-3 Viggen. Replacing the 9000's was the 9-5, 9-5 V6, 9-5 AERO. I know there's lots more to the later models (9-3, 9-5), like using GM (Opel) platforms, just strengthened to SAABs quality. But let's not forget the 9000 platform was shared Fiat (Chroma), Lancia (Thema), Alfa Romeo (164), and some others I can't think of right now.
Shame such a brand should become just another GM generic.
Love my 2005 9-5 2.3 arc turbo. Total sleeper, thing is quick when you want it to be, fun, and comfortable as hell.

I still have dreams about driving my old 900S. In 2015 I pulled out on a country road and got T-boned at 50 mph by a Ford Explorer with tow hooks on the front. The airbags didn't deploy and the driver door was caved in, but I walked away without a scratch. Saabs are some of the best cars ever made.

Wow, great "show"! I'm a picky guy when it comes to RUclips videos about cars, however as we love SAABs in the family, we got to love your video. (Living in Sweden, you can pick them up for pennies) We have two 9-5's, hence the interest in your video. Keep up the good work.
I love my Saabaru, they shoved the steering racks from the STI's in them and it's the best face option for all WRX type vehicles.
Im starting to get upset this is like 3 episodes with out talking about your dad.
Underscorer oh shit. I think youre right lets see what nolan has to say next
he did it in the Hummer episode though.
And with the 900 taking off *Just like my dad, on a plane to Nashville to buy that pack of cigs back in '05*
Or Jessica...
Well dont wanna kill it... thats smart
Damn that drifting 9-3 sounds beastly
It was a BMW powered OG 9-5
9-5, not 9-3
I love my 2007 Saab 93 Aero convertible. It's my 3rd saab. They've all been great.
Amazing video.
Saab owner, and I absolutely love it. Going to buy NEVS ASAP.
are you saabist
@@j4rba Obviously
@@xZeroOffical im too💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
Could you make separate episode on DATSUN? Many articles say that "The Original Nissan Z Car Was Never Supposed To Happen" and how Yoshihiko Matsuo had to fight as an Engineer back then to persuade the CEO to make Fairlady 240Z.
Saab, the airplane company currently make jet fighters, apc's and surface to air/ air to air missiles.
and submarines
And torpedoes.
@@formatique_arschloch and tanks
Saab was my favourite brand since I was a little kid. 😍😍😍😭😭
I've got a saab '93 900, she's my first car and I love her more that ANYTHING. she's so sturdy, so fast, and doesn't have frequent breakdowns like my parents' cars do. Me and my close friend are streetracers, and I won my first race with her :)
love her to pieces, love saab to pieces, and I'll be driving this car until I run it into the ground
it sucks that saab had to die. Wish the americans never got their hands on saab. Im sure it would they would have been still around today if it wasnt for GM.
MyniRS-Helgrem no Saab killed itself by spending to much and not making it back and gm bought them and kept them afloat
jdr ok RIP Saab

Yeah, they should have sticked together with Scania.
The car sucked
Love this video, but if you're gotta talk about it you gotta recognize the Saab 900 turbo SPG, Saab 9000 aero, Saab 9-3 turboX, and GM sold it to spyker not NEVS.
I had a sky blue 900 with a manual, I loved it.
My sister and I both had a Saab 900 as our first cars. Amazing cars. I miss mine every day.
I own a Saab 92-x aero and it's actually a pretty frickin' sweet car
Nick Russell 92x isn’t even a saab it’s a Subaru.
Ryin Rumery yeah, trust me, after pulling my blown motor and swapping in a new EJ20 and spending a lot of seat time in it, it's extremely evident that EVERYTHING aside from the badges and sheet metal is Subaru. Super cheap upkeep and reliable fun
I miss my Saabaru, man
had a 1998 9-3 2.0t amazing condition and all that, but there where few issues, first off the seating position is super bad, the shifter is almost at the floor you would have to reach for it, steering wheel had minimal adjustment. tl;dr not meant for big boys.
tony your maker 187cm
Thats not "big boy" at all thats just average height atleast here in norway
Sigurd Berget so height is the only thing that matter when it comes to size? are you stupid or stupid lol?
Should of got a 9,5
i now have a volvo s60, perfect seating.
I have a 2005 Saab 9-3 aero with 252k on it and the thing still runs and looks amazing
My favorite of all time..... Saab has a special place in My heart.... The 900 Turbo -88
Love you dude always makin me laugh too death🤙
