You and I like the same games! I loved “Daemon x Machina”, and while it wasn’t up to Atlus’ usual work, “Soul Hackers 2” was good! Loved the characters & character design. The Sabbath system wasn’t my favorite, but still enjoyable. (I also got into “Vampire Hunter D” b/c of Sci-Fi channel showing it in the 90’s!. Both films are incredible!). Haven’t played “Dusk Divers 2” but I’ll give it a chance now!

Well shoot the next time I come across Dusk Divers 2 I just might have to give it a shot as it seems like it could be a rater fun action style game that is quite different form the norm. Along with giving Persona 5 Strikers a shot even though I don't think I can play as Futaba which is something I always like a bought these games. As it would give everyone a little more time to shine. Like how Rise was given a character slot in p4arena ultamax.

Xenoblade 2 is my favorite Xenoblade. The element-based combat was so fun once you learned how to properly Launch and Smash and pull off millions of damage! Couple that with the music, the locations and the characters and mwah! Loved it! 💕
Can't say the same for XC3. The game felt so humorless. The military aesthetic felt so stoic and cold. The Smash and Launch mechanics didn't feel nearly as satisfying to pull off as they did in XC2, and 3's final boss just draaaaaaagggggggeeeeeeddddd....

2 is my second favorite behind X, but among the numbered games it's easily my favorite. 3 was infuriating with the constant tutorials that kept popping up even 5 hours in, forcing these long winded menu navigation prompts like we're too dumb to understand the concept. I couldn't get into it because every time I thought the game would let me actually play it for more than a few minutes it had to grind things to a halt just to tell me how to hit the party button, and explain the concept of a party, and force me to change the party members, then change them back, then ask if I wanted to hear the tutorial again.

Glad to see Hero must Die on this list. It's such a hidden gem. As for Soul Hackers 2, another big issue was the lack of a Switch version, which made no sense for a dungeon crawler. A late port with all the DLC included would've improved it's reception.

My apathy of XC2 is more mechanics. I didn't like that the game Auto-saved every time you attuned with a gem. The lesser Blades really are useless as all of their abilities are just lessor of the rare blades and you can't use them to power up others. The blades are locked to each character unless you use an insanely rare item to transfer them. (One character can use all late in the game) The fact you could not attack while moving pissed me off because of the enemies that flee and get reinforcements. I beat it but it's definitely my least favorite of the Xenoblade games...

People who hate on fun games for having waifus/sexy characters are usually miserable creatures who try to find what passes for joy in their sad lives by searching stuff to be offended and upset about. Ruining other people’s enjoyment is to them more important than actually pursuing their own happiness. So f’ their “opinions”. Beautiful art and design is certainly a big part of my enjoyment of games, be it the settings, the characters, or whatever. I’m not fond of the word “waifu”,but I’m all aboard with the concept.
Surprised you haven’t covered Bullet Girls Phantasia yet, though perhaps I missed the video? The English translated Asian version is fairly cheap now on Playasia so check it out if you don’t have it. It’s a pretty hilarious and fun game for sure. Keep up the great work, man. • @imackamoo2

Need more of these. Love the list. There's some I haven't tried. Soul hackers 2 has a really interesting concept on the devil summoner lore, and for that alone it's worth checking out if you're an SMT/persona fan. Also, I just want to say; I've seen the jrpg community time and time again ask for a nice, small linier style jrpg that's relatively short to beat with "no high school kid simulator" and here's one of the best examples staring us all in the face. I really think we all took this game for granted and didn't give it a chance to take root and improve upon its systems. Huge Xenoblade Chronicles fan. Played them all and the DLC. Rex was just misunderstood by the haters. He's a god among men, and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is better than XB-1 in my opinion (XB1 is great, don't get me wrong. But 2 is just genuinely better in every way mechanically aside from your personal preference in story differences that I understand). The combat, and blades are some of the best free gacha combat you can get in gaming history, and it was ahead of its time -- eventually gifting us the almighty Ouroboros system, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 being my favorite in the series
I think my biggest example of a game I see hated on that I love is Tales of Legendia. It's my favorite in the series and I love the art/american voice actors/characters/music. It was unique and really hard to stop playing.

  • @NGMK
    @NGMK 2 месяца назад +1

You... do spend most of the game in Dusk Diver 2 in one city. The city of Taipei. You do visit more locations in the city than in the first game (like Dadaocheng that you might also recognise from The Legend of Tianding), but it's still within one city. I agree that it's not much of a criticism though.
DD2 is a beatiful and fun to play game, but as a sequel... I can't agree that it's an upgrade in every way. While DD1 was mostly a brawler bordering on Musou-type, with some RPG elements, DD2 is more of an action RPG and, I think, that's where criticisms come from - especially if you're coming straight from DD1, the differences can be jarring.
Stat upgrades play now a bigger role, which make for more recognisable progression, but at the same time, make it look like it's a bit less about player skill than it's about big stats.
Another thing - attacks. While in the first game you had access to all attacks at a time, in DD2, a lot of those got relagated to active skills, that you can only equip 4 or so (I'll admit it's been a while since I played it, so might be getting details wrong). In DD1 all attacks were situational, while in DD2 nearly all early skills are exchanged for ones with better stats as game progresses.
I that's something I took personally - one of my favourite attacks in DD1, was the 1-2 hook combo, that could be repeated few times, going 1-2,1-2,1-2-1-2-1-2.... and in DD2 - not only you can't spam it like in DD1, it's stats are poor and there's little to no reason to even equip it.
There are also some smaller changes, that can just rub you the wrong way - like the super meter being a generic bar instead of stylish hair filling.
Or that super mode is no longer the event it was in DD1 - no longer you have a track accompanying your Super Saiyan transformation (I effin loved it in DD1, made the final battle even better with lyrics popping in).
Sure, it makes sense to have more universal bar, since now it applies to all characters - one can say it's a small trade-off for having more playable characters,
and sure, track for transformation isn't much of a deal in-of-itself, but both made my time in first game all the more enjoyable, and leave an empty seat, so to speak, that I don't think anything filled in.
Dusk Diver 2 is a very different game to the original, which sparks conflicting opinions on it as a sequel.
It''s a very fun game and I hope the series will see another release... that's not a just a DLC for another game.

The way I understand it, with Xeno they wanted to make a Metal Max game that would have wider appeal (probably why they localized it). It didn't work, meanwhile Metal Max fans weren't particularly happy with how they waited half a decade for a knockoff, so with Xeno Reborn they remade it to strip the story so it was more like older games (Metal Max was always more of a sandbox, you're just a bounty hunter exploring the wasteland) hoping it would satisfy fans. But that wasn't what made Xeno bad, that was the saving grace. They just stripped what made Xeno unique & special and republished its inferior skeleton. I don't like Reborn all that much and I know Xeno can't be TOO much better though I'd love to play it one day. Failing that, Cygames purchased the Metal Max IP so hopefully a proper Metal Max 5 is in development.
Edit: if anyone wants to play a Metal Max game, I recommend Metal Saga on the PS2. It was the only game officially localized before Xeno, loved it as a kid. It's got a low Metacritic score but ignore it, it's mostly because of how different it is from other JRPGs rather than specific flaws. If you don't mind giving up 3D graphics, Metal Max Returns (SNES), Metal Max 3 (DS), Metal Max 2 RELOADED (DS) all have fan translations and are the core of the franchise and thus the most metalmaximized Metal Max experience

I love all the xenoblade games. My favorite is probably Xenoblade Chronicles X (got totally lost in that world for 200+ hours) but since the cowards at nintendo won't port it off the WiiU, I'd say XBC2 is next lol.
The psuedo gacha mechanic sucked but it allowed for a huge supporting cast, many with their own side stories.
The characters in general were just fun. Pyra and Mythra were great. Rex was a fairly stereotypical shonen protagonist and i enjoyed all the rest of the supporting cast.
The story also goes HARD once you get about halfway in.
I enjoyed XBC3, but it felt like a step back. More bland environments, a less likable cast, a less flashy and somehow more messy battle system and just a geneal bleak tone. Good RPG. Not as good as its predecessor.
Side note: for a long time, Soul Hackers 2 was on GamePass. It, sadly, has been taken off now, but while it was there i tried it out. I didnt finish it but i could definitely appreciate the art, characters, etc even if the level design was a bit dull.

One kinda hated game I absolutely adore was Star Ocean The Last Hope. When it came to PS3 I was so happy and played it for good 500h+. After I was kinda let down by FFXIII, it became my comfy go-to JRPG at the time. :)

Dynasty Warriors/Musou is awesome, it's just pure fun and not as braindead as people think. It's even weird seeing it getting hate from JRPGs fans, since there's always so much customization, setups and optimization to it.
Some of the best of the series were the crossovers/licensed titles, like Gundam 2, Hyrule Warriors, Fire Emblem Three Hopes (this one was special!).

My problem with Deamon X Machina is the strong red tint of the game, it's bordering painful.
I also started on Xenoblade X then Xenoblade 1 but I really liked Xenoblade 2.

Gotta say I agree with your assessment of Soul Hackers 2. It’s a very fun and good game. It’s no Persona, but it was never supposed to be. You’re correct that the biggest issue was the pricing and DLC. The thing that kills me about it is that if all of the issues around this game boil down to the fact that it’s too expensive… then why don’t people just get it on sale? Why not just pass on the DLC? It’s a damn shame because I had a heap of fun playing that game.

legit games tho, its probably cuz its jrpg games. Whats weird is that Tales of series hasnt been known. Even tho we push for all these games to come overseas since it was exclusive in japan early 2010s

I love the warriors games and I have Strikers in my backlog and can't wait to get to it.
Edit: I love waifus and will be playing XC2 when I get around to it.

Star Ocean 4-6, FFXIII, Lightning Returns, FFXII PS2 original, Jeanne d'Arc apparently. I loved Dusk Diver 1, 2 is on my wishlist, just something about it got me scratching my head.

I absolutely loved Xenoblade Chronicles 2. The story was amazing, they gave all the Rare blades their own quests, where we learn more about them. We learn about the Antagonists reasons for doing what they did.
The character designs were incredible too, and I liked the open world play style. I'll admit I can see why some people disliked it, since some quests don't tell you how or where to get certain items. But there's guides for a reason.

Here here! I own most of these, bought day one, and while I get distracted easily and let them slip into the backlog too quickly, I will 110% agree with all of these. Persona 5 Strikers is awesome, Dusk Diver 2 was rad too, it just had some minor performance issues on NSW. And I will die on this hill: Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is leagues better than 3. X will forever be my favorite, but 2 is easily second, and the 3rd one is actually my least. And the amount of shit I get for ranking them in that order is frankly hilarious. And someday I'll get around to playing MMX:R, I bought it for 10 dollars new and it's sat in the backlog since.
Most of my personal list is just waifu bait weeb trash like Onechanbara Z2C and Senran Kagura 2, both of which get you called out pretty hard because everyone assumes the worst but they're actually really fun and have more robust combat systems than they have any right to. Seriously. I can see the snarky ass rebuttals already.

I liked playing Poison Control myself a year or two ago. I just think one thing that killed some of my enjoyment that some of the later levels had some ingame lag and for some reason I had a few times where my game kinda crash during the final level a few times. (forgot if it did a level earlier or not) Also some weapons just weren't as useful as others and I wished it had a bit more enemy variety but still I did have fun in my playthrough, however. It just needed some more polishing to be more of a classic.

My problems with DxM had little to do with the story; I thought the lore that cropped up between missions was pretty neat, even if it wasn't what I was there for. I enjoyed the weapon loadouts I was able to put together by the end of the game even. But it felt like there just weren't very many combinations of cool and useful weapons even after I'd finished basically all the missions in the game. There were my cool standbys of big melee weapon, big laser, consistent gun, and missile launchers, but beyond those, I didn't see what else I should be kitting my mech out with. At least it was good for acclimating to this genre of game, so when people say it's "Armored Core, but worse" I feel very confident that I'd be able to get into Armored Core.
What's frustrating about the XC2 discourse is it draws people away from some legitimate issues with the gameplay that are present. The game is legitimately very fun, but it puts up a lot of obstacles to keep you from learning how to enjoy it. It's well-accepted in the Xenoblade circles I travel that the tutorials just aren't very good, and fans have made a number of spoiler-free guides to understanding the systems so it's possible to get the most out of the game regardless. I feel the game would benefit most from a Definitive Edition treatment that rectifies that, as well as some UI issues here and there.

I being thinking on this video since yesterday 😅… here’s the thing, right now there is like a disdain from people to enjoy bad things, things that are not good and they feel the need to make everything this secret master piece people just didn’t get it or act like everyone is too dumb to understand something that was as deep as a puddle but somehow they got it… and at the same time the gaming community has this thing to make judge everything for what it isn’t instead of what it is, why dosnt have this, why they went this way, why is not as I imagine it should be, and things like that, I know some of the controversy’s so rounding some of those games and I feel they enter that category but at the same time I can’t help but wonder which ones are miss judged and wich ones are just bad things that I enjoy… anyways thanks for letting me share my existencial crisis, have a good day now 😅

Alpha Protocol, comes to mind. That game is GOATed for me, and man like the whole journalism community slammed it. Almost no people I meet actually played it and of those I talked into trying it most agreed it was in fact rad, but it’s wild how hard such an amazing title got nitpicked apart over BS.
Yes the gunplay is weird and takes getting used to, yes Mike is corny if you keep choosing the silly dialogue responses (solution: stop doing that if you don’t like it, pick other options), yes the enemy AI can be a little derpy. It’s still the most malleable “choices matter” game narratives I’ve ever seen, has enough RPG mechanics and interesting achievements to pursue to keep gameplay fresh for 3 runs minimum, and is generally just bonkers ambitious and fun for its era.
It honestly makes me wonder if there were industry bribes demanded and not paid or something, I can’t fathom how something so revolutionarily cool for its time got piledrived in the reviews.
Besides my main answer; I dunno… Rise of the Argonauts got a similar treatment despite being pretty great, but it probably hasn’t aged near as well. Outside that, I can name a lot of games I think are great that people don’t appreciate, but ambivalence isn’t hate really.
Top of my head, feels like almost no one appreciated the Dead Island franchise other than me. Like as a zombie survival game? Idk, B-. Absolute top tier A++ best-of-show as “First Person Melee” goes though. Yeah man, if you just mash the trigger brainlessly like it’s Skyrim, *you’re gonna have a bad time*. But in terms of considering things like momentum, balance, positioning… Dying Light gives a decent effort, but no other first person game is truly a match for the care out into Dead Island’s melee combat

I bought Poison Control on release day, I liked it. It's not fantastic but it was a fun game and it filled a small part of the gigantic hole of Mega Man Legends 3's cancelation. I thought Red Ash would help but it's "existence" just makes the hole bigger.

Honestly Xeno Reborn is great. It improves things across the board and removes unnecessary stuff. I feel people that complain about it never played the other Mettal Max games. It has always been open and sandboxy within reason.
