- Two NASA astronauts are preparing to spend more unexpected time in space.
Engineers are scrambling to fix issues with the Boeing Starliner capsule, plagued with technical difficulties. The astronauts are stranded, but safe, on the International Space Station.
As Global's Jackson Proskow explains, their brief trip into orbit has stretched into nearly a month-long stay.

Boeing desperately needs a CEO who puts quality first - not profits.
Those days are long gone for Boeing.
There cannot be quality without profits.
There cannot be anything without profits.
Vanguard and Blackrock own Boeing, the CEO is irrelevant, these are machine institutions, that's why the whistle blowers keep dying
@MetaView7 Boeing is a government subsidized aerospace company. Let's not kids ourselves. Their profits are guaranteed by the taxpayers.
Did they? They aren’t profitable since before the pandemic…
It’s a Boeing. You’re lucky the doors didn’t fly off
Came here for this comment. Was not disappointed.
@@Roddy556 🤣
The Cinese can launch and dock the spacecraft in 2 hours. NASA takes 24 hours.
@@zonian1966 lol projection and disinformation on China 😂😂😂
Go away Pentagon bot
I told them "righty tighty and lefty lucy " that should get them where they want to be 😂😂😂
If it's a Boeing, I ain't going.
This is a great boycott slogan.
Taking airbus planes?
👏🤣Well said Michael 👍
It’s sad because old Boeing aircraft, (before it was profits over people) were actually really solid. Now it is an entirely different company.
Give Boeings CEO another raise, like double his salary again. What a joke
Another raise. Hell , they don’t know what it takes to go to space and return.
I wonder who tf they will blame now!! Ceo guy is an embarrassment to society.
@@tomsawyer6148 that’s sarcasm Samuel Clemens
At this point Boeing has become a complete meme
There's absolutely no reason to use Starliner over the SpaceX Dragon capsule
Except for the extra money it would cost and the embarrassment value to Boeing and NASA
@@tomhiggins2562 NASA has Orion, they don't even need Starliner.
Having more options for launch is incredibly valuable. If you don't get why, read up on the situation. The point isn't to use one over the other, it's a fallback. What if SpaceX can't launch a dragon? Not their fault, maybe, but it could have devastating effects. It's much less likely there will be no available launches when you have multiple companies manufacturing and launching crewed spacecraft. Nasa wants Blue Origin and others in this as well.
@letter27thorn They didnt seem to have a problem with that when they relied on the Russians for all their launches. A country we're not even on good terms with.
@@darkknight097 Literally the whole point is that they DID have a problem. That's why we see so many American crewed spacecraft now.
They knew about the leakage even before the rocket was launched. They then delayed the launch. But they did nothing about it while it was still there on the ground and decided to launch it anyway. Now, it is stuck on the ISS and the issue is getting much more serious. If they could not fix it when it was in front of their eyes, how the hell can they fix it while it is already in space?
They were hoping the problem would......GO AWAY😂😂😂
I thought we learned from Apollo 1, space shuttles Columbia and Challenger
Maybe they should have believed the whistle-blower instead of ending their breathing time.
Coincidence? Boeing sure has been bold about ending the whistleblowers 😅
Heh heh.. are you sure you're not suddenly getting pneumonia?
Those astronauts are the whistleblowers
What do you mean a year behind schedule? It’s well over 5 years behind schedule at this point. Get your facts straight Global
"I applied to nasa but their was no space."
So why isn’t the CEO of Boeing not in jail or looking at jail time for putting people’s safety at risk.
Because its america, the lehman brothers group isnt in jail ether
1.5 billion over budget, and it's broken. Government spending is insane. Boeing use to be an engineering firm.
They were brave for taking the chance with Boeing.
With all of the problems Boeing has had lately, I'm blown away that the FAA allowed them to fly this mission.
It is really a NASA decision. They have to approve Boeing flying astronauts to the ISS. The only thing the FAA does is the launch license.
I'm surprised the astronauts would go. After the Challenger disaster, I would never send myself up in a tin can.
Money under the table~
The astronauts were whistle-blowers
That whistle sound is just a leak.
That's not funny. Boeing would do anything........... you know
@@cca9502 it was a test. Things go wrong on tests sometimes. If they feel it's not safe to try to come back they have few options. Waiting to see what they do.
Having this low quality stuff in space is the just not an option.
Word of advice to the astronauts, don’t get back in that vessel 😂
it being a Boeing they are lucky it even made it to the ISS
As soon as I read Boeing . I wasn't surprised.
If you fly on a Boeing, good luck making it to where you're going
1:46 What the capital F?
Imagine being stuck in orbit because your return vessel keeps being diagnosed with malfunction after malfunction. "More time to enjoy the view" doesn't quite fit.
They feel like have to say something good about the disaster. Hope they get a solution before the 45 days ran out.
The situation is worse than what the media channels tell you
It's an absolute PR disaster, and the longer it goes on the greater the PR disaster becomes. Let's just hope NASA has more sense this time than to risk the crew's lives by trying to send them home in this thing when they have a clearly safer alternative option at their disposal.
Don't believe big space guys!!11111!

Then hurry it up. We ain't got all day.
It’s going to be embarrassing for Boeing when these astronauts need to come home via spaceX 😮😮
They can't, and they won't.
Even soyuz is a better option
@@-CagnusMarlsen Explain.
@@richmanwisco Soyuz is considered the world's safest and for a long time most cost effective human spaceflight vehicle and Russians are using it for past 5 decades.Soyuz has been safer than the US space shuttle as well. one Soyuz is always attached to the space station. If there were an emergency on the space station, the crew could use the Soyuz to leave the space station and return to Earth.
@@-CagnusMarlsen Appreciate you taking the time. There is the logistical question of whether they have spacesuits available for astronauts who were not previously manifested. Also, there has not been a determination that Starliner is not fit for flight, nor is anyone saying that it will be. The general media reporting on the matter has been slipshod, to be very kind.
Boeing CEO $33 million Salary well earned !
Simple fix, push gently on the emergency escape exit, they come out very easily. Then check if someone put the parachutes under the hood. Now you can then take a jump... Boeing has tried this successfully with their aircraft and find the ground stops everything
Boeing doesn't need a ceo. They need to be closed for public safety
Would you trust a Boeing product right now?
Yes.
@@brycedyck8450 look at flightradar and count the number of Boeing planes above you.
It’s time for a Dragon rescue mission.
if they send a crew dragon to bring a Boeing crew home then that is the end of their program and possibly their company as a whole.
As if sending a leaky ship that left astronauts stranded in space, assassinating two whistle blowers, and killing 300+ passengers on their latest plane doesn’t spell the end of this company already.
There is no need for a "rescue mission" as there is no emergency. They would use the Soyuz and Dragon capsule to escape in an emergency
What could go wrong? When you lift off knowing the leaks in the craft.

at least you still have oxygen and gravity.
Damn. I hope it doesnt just explode next to the ISS.
that would mark the end of Boeing, completely.
They are having trouble with airplanes, do we really want them making spaceships?
They've been in the spaceship business for 60 years.
Boeing sure silenced its critics not 🤣 Should have listened to the whistleblower 😂
NASA would be committing another Challenger/Columbia level error if they were to send their astronauts back to earth on Starliner. There would be no place for NASA to hide if the spacecraft was lost when they knew in advance that such a tragic outcome was possible.
Careful up there, astronauts only live just once.
Was it Fake titanium parts that caused the problem........Too soon?
The situation is worse than what they tell you
Or was it all fake?
Its Boeing,this is a surprise?
Boeing what in gods name have you shorted your own stock or something lmfao???
too much money it’s going into black budget programs for weapons and other things
Scary situation. Fingers crossed they resolve it soon.
It is impossible to get Starliner into a guaranteed safe fully functional spacecraft while it is in space. Doesn't matter how long they wait to bring the astronauts home; only Boeing can fix the problem. Therefore if NASA tries to use Starliner to bring the crew home at any point they will be doing so in the full knowledge that there is a material path to disaster.
I bet you those astronauts in space probably regret working for Boeing now lol
They're NASA astronauts.

Boeing being Boeing.
"We're Boeing engineers, we are here to help!" ...... "Ah, Houston, we have an even bigger problem..."
It's not the engineers that are the problem. It's the silencing of them
Space x successful goes to the iss and back... idk why use boeing.
They don't like Elon, they like big dumb corporations.
It's because they got a contract. If memory serves me, they only got a contract because they challenged the SpaceX contract
Lobbying.
Unfortunately the ISS doesn’t have critical repair materials such as dish soap and hotel room key cards. The big problem is that if Boeing engineers report any issues they are terminated without warning.
Permanently terminated.
Boeing pushed too hard to make this happen, and it shows
How is the entire of Boeing leadership not in prison yet ?
Will those astronauts ever be able to come home??? 😧
Yes, on a Spacex capsule
Hopefully, no 😂
Boeing's hitmen will come for them if they do. No witnesses.
Yes, there is soyuz that is always attached to the ISS or maybe the Dragon will pick them up
@@jcoxdj They won't use the Spacex capsule. That one is for the other crew. The ISS has a Soyuz attached as a backup.

Embarrassing and criminal!!!! 😡🤮
I love boeing and will continue to donate.
Works better than Starship.
The astronauts wouldn’t mind the extra time in space lol
Many analysts have said that Boeing was a solid company until it absorbed McDonnell-Douglas in 97 and took on that companies culture.
It's how much to go to space again?
Where I worked, there was a massive push to hire only new graduates with an emphasis on diversity. Diversity was never an issue but it was made to be one and of course it is a fact of life that older people move on making room for younger engineers. Wisdom and judgement comes from experience which takes time to build up. There was a notion that older engineers would "mentor" younger people but if we're honest we'd admit we all wanted to learn from our own mistakes when we were starting out too. Like the rest of the universe, balance is a good thing so I wonder if they haven't messed with that balance a bit too much. Having folks around to say "yes we tried that but we found this works better" really isn't a bad thing. Hope they get it sorted out and everyone comes home safely!
This is exactly what I would want to happen if I was an astronaut scheduled for only 5 days in space.
And after that you will be saying that US landed a man on the Moon??? Hahaha!
There's a lot of garbled info in the media. They make it sound like the ship has problems that must be fixed before they fly, and haven't been fixed yet, like a car stranded with a flat tire. In fact, NASA decided to run some ground tests and analysis to better understand the risks and possible impacts of the known leak issue, and the delay is because they are waiting on those tests to complete.
I wouldn't use a toaster with a Boeing logo on it at this point
“Our doors won’t open at all, in fact they’ll never open” -Boeing
Better to ask the russians to lend a Soyuz.
Boeing Starliner has been beset with continuous problems one after another.
It has been plague with multiple issues since the beginning of the flight.
The ISS has plenty of supplies in orbit and the astronauts can stay on board for 45 days.
During Starliner’s 25-hour flight to the space station, engineers identified five helium leaks and problems with five of the 28 thrusters, which are all located on the service module.
Boeing Starliner has helium leaks but it only needs seven hours of helium to return to Earth.
The Starliner has over 10 times that amount left on board.
NASA and Boeing engineers are troubleshooting various faults in the Starliner spacecraft.
I hope NASA is able to rectify the problems to ensure the safe return of the astronauts back to earth.
"If it says Boeing, I ain't going!"
It is not Boeing's year.
It's actually way more behind and way more over budget then this report..reports...more like 2 year and 10 billion. you guys aren't even close. talk about spotting reporting.
Did they take three weeks of food with them?
Be back safe! And it looks a lot like corruption.
It should be mandatory for one of the crew member to be one of the high payed finance managers.
God Damn it Boeing!
RIP to those Astronauts 😞🙏🏿
I don’t even fly Boeing planes 🗑️
This is why spaceX is the best!
When your guests won't leave and are eating up all the reserves, a resupply mission will need to be bumped up. Also, with the extra weight, flight engineers will be calculating how much additional altitude the ISS is losing. This will translate to thruster timing and fuel consumption to push the ISS back up further.
Though 2030 is coming fast and decommissioning of the ISS will start in a few years time.
