Jessi Hildebrandt says they were surprised that their aunt, a former Utah mental health counselor and business partner of vlogger Ruby Franke, is actually being held accountable for her actions. Law&Crime’s Jesse Weber followed up with Jessi to get their reaction to Jodi’s guilty plea and expected prison sentence, years after Jessi’s own alleged abuse.

Why do you CONSTANTLY insist on showing images of the underage victims? And now you're even saying their names?? There's a reason why legal/court documents don't even reveal that, regardless of what their abusers already revealed about them.

Jodi's guilty plea was probably on advise of counsel as the children's tale of torture would've generated much sympathy. Happy the niece filially got justice.
Jodi would’ve been cementing herself in the Mormon church and Utah psychology community at that point too.
I’m so happy Jessi got some semblance of justice, but I almost wish that case could be reopened. There should be no statute of limitations when there’s recorded evidence that went completely unchecked and essentially doubted.

In my country there isnt really a time limit, and its up to the defense to raise undue delay as a defense.
The legal and law systems are both very very preferential to women. Mom says it's ok, they just trust that it's ok.

The church was sending people to an abusive therapist here at LDS family services in New Hampshire too. Unlicensed seems to be a common story I hear from folks harmed by LDS family services. Ours was awful. He messed me up for a while 😢

The old saying, “There is no loyalty among thieves.” Ruby was apparently notoriously cruel to her kids before Jodi came on the scene. Both women deserve max sentences imo.

No when they are sentenced & sent to prison they will not have it easy, inmates will definitely let them know what they think..
I never being in prison and I am planing on not going ever. The food, accommodations are horrible. They do not take I showers every day. The food is like bologna sandwich, hotdog, mac and cheese. Maybe a fruit every here and there. Many gain weight after only a few months in prison. It is not about nutrition, but keeping them alive, that’s it. Both of them are having a hard time, for sure.
Female prison are very nice, clean, and safe. Female prisons are held to a much higher standard than mens.
OMG if she gets 60 years I'll cry. I hope so. As someone that suffered at the hands of a LDS family services 'therapist' this means a lot.

I’m so sorry that happened to you. Sadly Utah’s law caps the maximum sentence of 30 years for this crime, even though technically it should be 60. Lots of Utah’s laws I don’t understand!

Jodi pleaded guilty because of the enormous amount of evidence and people to cooperate that her behavior and treatment of the children was an established and ongoing behavior for years. She is hoping for less time by pleading guilty. I hope the judge gives her the max.

If they are still with the LDS church and have contact with their father...my guess is they aren't!
I don’t think Kevin has custody of any of the minor children. They may all need to be in specialized therapy while with CPS. Kevin will have to do things to prove he is a safe custodian parent, like intensive therapy to unravel the crazy beliefs he and Ruby were easily led to believe by Jodi.

Shari, the oldest sister, currently has custody and has mentioned being a fan of therapy. Given that she’s 20 and a full-time student, I’m not sure what she’s able to provide, who’s helping her, and how people helping her feel about therapy

Those dark bags under poor Russell's eyes in so many photographs is chilling. I've never seen a young kid have them - he must have been malnourished and stressed for long periods of time. Poor kid.

Jesse amazes me with her strength. They are very articulate and so brave to be in the public eye. I hope Jodi has seen at least one of the interviews Jesse has given. I would love to see Jodi’s face at the hearing in 8 months when she sees Jesse in the courtroom. Jesse deserves all the peace and joy this world has to offer.

Maybe the teacher who used to call Ruby because the little girl forgot her lunch and didn't have anything to eat will be mad that this specific charge has been dropped. Ruby's answer was that it was the girl fault because she was in charge of making it herself. She did starve her kids before Jodi. She's not sorry, she's sorry she got caught and even the hearing show was for the cameras.
Jodi’s favorite emotion is anger? Some of the stuff she said are a red flag! She is a perfect definition of distortion!
Considering everything this young woman endured at the hands of the monster she had as an Aunt it is amazing that she has such absolute control of her thoughts and emotions. Considering the situation she is an eloquent and articulate speaker. Hopefully all of this will help her heal.

If Ruby actually had the “deepest regret for my children” she would OWN what she did to her children.
Instead, she blames it on her partner. Blaming someone else for what they did to HER CHILDREN is not taking ownership at all.
If she was truly regretful, she wouldn’t be blaming anybody but herself .

They have recently released her private journal where Ruby documented a lot of the horrific abuse she was inflicting upon her own children. She got some kind of sick satisfaction from hurting her own children.

Neither of these women are sorry or remorseful. They are only sorry that they were caught. Ruby and her "with sorrow for my family and my chidren.....guilty" remark was not convincing. It just seemed as if she said that hoping to sway the Judge when it comes time for sentencing.
I'm thinking the mother knows what she's done. I think she thought that what was happening was weird. Unfortunately, not weird enough.
I don't think they are sorry, but they are afraid. Jodi more than Ruby. Ruby isn't quite all there. Jodi knows exactly and precisely what's she done.

Seeing a smiling Evie in a video you just showed reminded me of a prayer she wrote that her egg donor showed her audience it said “Heavenly Father please help me to survive” I believe her prayer was answered when her brave brother escaped and ran for help! I pray for them all the time and the other children also! Jessie is so brave thank you for bringing Jessie on!

I'm having a hard time believing the husband knew nothing of what was going on with his children. Poor children. It's sad to say but there wasn't one fit adult in there lives to parent them. Not one.

Oh, yeah. There were reports of him pushing radical Mormon ideas in the classes he taught. Must have bee bad because he was teaching at a Mormon college. I have heard the niece speak about her abusive ordeal; absolute travesty that her parents, the police, and no one in her church did anything or suspected anything; and these child abusers got away with this while having a channel on YT!
I’m not an Utah resident, so I don’t know what is going on wrt accountability of the LDS Church and state CPS. Jodi got the most referrals from the LDS Church. CPS received numerous complaints about both Jodi and Ruby but DID NOTHING. Someone needs to be held accountable.
Its not a coincidence that it wasn't taken seriously. A lot of top political figures are LDS. I suspect most of law enforcemt is too.

By the way, the plea deals, I am sure the church is the one pushing both of them to just plead guilty and not shame more the church. It is horrible, but they have a lot power. Hildebrand's niece - thank you so much for your psycho-social maturity and clarity - despite your imprisonment and torture. So glad you are around to help educate everyone about these crimes. It is shocking that Hildebrand was doing to others what she was claiming they were being punished for. It is bizarre to me that associates - church and counselling etc. associates did not know or knew and did nothing about these crimes. Were they complicit -either by action or inaction?
She absolutely wouldn't want the kids to testify, not because she doesn't want to harm them, but because if they did; their testimonies would be detrimental and damning to her case

Ha, everything that Jodi stated in that video about 'distortion' is EVERYTHING she did to people in her so-called 'counseling!' She just made crap up as she went. How awful that she was allowed to treat her niece so horribly for years! She should've been put in prison for those actions.
I'm really happy for all of Jodi's victims, getting the chance to hear her plead guilty must help heal a small bit of their pain. I'm really happy for Jessi though, this has to be so validating and affirming. ❤
Hoping that Jessi feels vindicated, as they wasn’t believed for so many years. And they’re experience/pain dismissed by their family. I hope their parents/family have embraced and apologised to Jessi. Wishing all harmed, healing and peace.
It’s not a tactic to save face, it’s a tactic all undeniably guilty parties use to perhaps minimise the length of their sentence and, to avoid more coming out. If, you had any chance of beating the charges against you, your lawyer would advise you accordingly. Both, Franke and Hildebrandt pled guilty because, they were never going to be found not guilty if it went to trial.
True - unless there is real regret and remorse, as Ruby claims, or care for children's healing, as Jodi claims. In which case they would care less about themselves and maybe even accept the punishment as deserved. But there is no real insight and no regret in any of them. They both claim to be sorry but they behave like ordinary criminals, only interested in saving their ars*s. THAT is the ugly detail which is bothering everyone. Fake tears but real egoism.
That neighbour sounded so upset and distressed at the sight of this boy's emaciated state and infected wounds. Poor man. 😢
I think Jesse and any other victims that went to the police that were ignored. They should file a civil lawsuit

Gosh, Jessi is so intelligent, so well spoken, so clear in expressing themselves. I’m so glad they are healing and never fully bought in to the crap their aunt was trying to feed them.
Jessi is a remarkable person. I wish them the best in life, as they have overcome so much and are an advocate in these moments that I cannot even imagine how this them feel.

They were looking at 90 years each. So I imagine they will get at least 10 and maybe more. Just because they took a plea doesn’t mean they get a free pass.
It would be nice if Jesse could talk to R and E later down the road, to assure them this wasn’t their fault, as they were told. I know it’s a lil different, as their own mother participated, but it could help the 3 of them, if they knew Jesse went thru the same thing. I say Ruby and Jodi deserve the same sentence.

My question to Jesse is. Since everything that has come out about Jodi , the charges, her pleading guilty. Has jesses parents reached out to her to apologize for their part in handing over their daughter to Jodi?
They said in the Mormon Stories interview that their parents are major rug sweepers. Sweep it all under the rug and pretend everything is fine. From what I've seen their parents haven't changed their tune. I hope that it changes but I don't think they'll ever apologize to Jessi. I really don't think people like that are capable of that.

Once they are sentenced and in big girl prison, let's see if they make it the 8 months once the other inmates hear what they've done to children...yikes
I hope they get an attorney for the kids and sue the pants off of Jodi in a civil case.
Neither of these women will receive a lengthy sentence. First they will get credit for the time they have currently served. They will get the minimum one year for each admission of guilt. That means credit for time served subtracted from 4 years. Then they get parole.

That's up to the judge. Nothing in either plea deal holds the judge to reduce the sentences.
Hidden True Crime did a zillow tour of Jodi's house. Its up for sale for over 5 million! Its unbelievable. Also shows the room where Rubys young daughter was held. It a mircle the boy was able to get out. The hous was over ten thousand square feet.

The older kids who weren’t there with the lil ones were cleaning the mom’s friend house who’s also involved in the company. That woman had to kno something and went along like why are u having ur friends kids clean ur house??? She said she was asked to watch em and thought oh ya I could, my house needs to be cleaned anyway like what?!
As someone raised in a very strict LDS family, we were expected to earn our keep every day. This often includes cleaning and cooking for members of the church. Usually they rewarded us with some sugary treat we didn't get at home. Sugary foods were only allowed at church events, or rewarding acts of service.

I love listening to the niece. It’s horrible what happened to her, and I’m sure her healing journey is a long one. She is so articulate, calm, focused and raises such intelligent analysis of Jodi’s actions. This young woman deserves a lot of support and love.

In case friends of the internet world are not familiar with this region of the country/state. I live in the same city as this was happening in. Summer here a brutal. 104 is about the average temperature range and the heat is dry and unrelenting. Think when you open your oven anf get blasted in the face with the escaping radiant heat. That is what it feels like stepping out of your car or front door of your home. I imagine it is similar to phoenix,az for those who are familiar. It is so incredibly unbearable. My heart dropped hearing some of the details of the charges regarding forced outside activities and work. It is a miracle these children survived this summer. My heart is heavy for this family for these sweet children
Jessie's empathy for Russell and Eve is beautiful. Jessie is such a strong person and I hope that they find peace, healing, and happiness. ❤ I'm grateful that Jessie is going to go to Jodi's parole hearing to help hold Jodi accountable and keep her in prison where she can't harm anymore children.
Why can’t they file new charges against Jody for what she did to Jessi? Since Jessi went to the police back then, shouldn’t their statute of limitations be preserved?
