Cali Valley Sharpening Kit - Cheap stones on Amazon..will they work?

Im not an expert sharpener by any means...but I was able to get a usable edge on various differnt knives within 5-7 minutes.These knives were very dull and have never been sharpened before.

I have a a stone and stand like that coming but with a different strip that comes with compound its definitely a better whetstone then what I've been having to use recently. I've been using my dads stone he has had forever that is chipped on the sides and broke in half

Is it fine moving the knife forward for some reason I was told to only pull the knife not push it

Omg please for the love of god never touch another whet stone with that "technique" that will f up the blade more then make it sharper you have to have complete strokes of your knife dont just go up and down on a specific area that's like loveing or child and neglecting the other one it's not very effective

Nope, no you don't. Short strokes work fine. Someone sold you on technique that doesn't really make sense.
